1 This is what the Lord GOD showed me: He was forming a locust swarm when the late growth began to come up (the late growth after the king's mowing).	1 Voici ce que le Seigneur Yahvé me fit voir: au temps où l’herbe commence à repousser après la coupe pour le roi, il créait des sauterelles.
2 While they were eating all the grass in the land, I said: Forgive, O Lord GOD! How can Jacob stand? He is so small!	2 Je les voyais dévorer toute l’herbe du pays et je dis: “Seigneur Yahvé, pardonne, je t’en prie. Jacob est si petit, comment tiendra-t-il?”
3 And the LORD repented of this. "It shall not be," said the Lord GOD.	3 Alors Yahvé se repentit et déclara: “Cela n’arrivera pas!”
4 Then the Lord GOD showed me this: he called for a judgment by fire. It had devoured the great abyss, and was consuming the land,	4 Le Seigneur Yahvé me fit voir autre chose: le Seigneur Yahvé appelait le feu pour punir son peuple. Le feu mit les sources à sec et dévora la campagne.
5 when I said: Cease, O Lord GOD! How can Jacob stand? He is so small!	5 Alors je dis: “Seigneur Yahvé, arrête, je t’en prie! Jacob est si petit, comment tiendra-t-il?”
6 The LORD repented of this. "This also shall not be," said the Lord GOD.	6 Yahvé se repentit et déclara: “Cela non plus n’arrivera pas.”
7 Then the Lord GOD showed me this: he was standing by a wall, plummet in hand.	7 Il me fit voir autre chose encore: le Seigneur se tenait le long d’un mur avec un fil à plomb dans la main.
8 The LORD asked me, "What do you see, Amos?" And when I answered, "A plummet," the Lord said: See, I will lay the plummet in the midst of my people Israel; I will forgive them no longer.	8 Yahvé me dit: “Amos que vois-tu?” Je répondis: “Un fil à plomb.” Le Seigneur me dit: “Voici que je vais mettre d’aplomb mon peuple Israël, et désormais je ne lui pardonnerai plus.
9 The high places of Isaac shall be laid waste, and the sanctuaries of Israel made desolate; I will attack the house of Jeroboam with the sword.	9 Les hauts-lieux d’Isaac seront ruinés, les sanctuaires d’Israël seront dévastés, et je m’en prendrai à la maison de Jéroboam l’épée à la main.”
10 Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent word to Jeroboam, king of Israel: "Amos has conspired against you here within Israel; the country cannot endure all his words.	10 Alors Amasias, le prêtre de Béthel, envoya dire à Jéroboam, roi d’Israël: “Amos conspire contre toi au cœur du pays d’Israël, le pays ne peut plus supporter ses discours.
11 For this is what Amos says: Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be exiled from its land."	11 Oui, voici ce que dit Amos: Jéroboam sera tué par l’épée et Israël sera déporté loin de sa terre.”
12 To Amos, Amaziah said: "Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah! There earn your bread by prophesying,	12 Amasias dit à Amos: “Va-t’en, voyant! Retourne au pays de Juda, et là, mange ton pain en faisant le prophète;
13 but never again prophesy in Bethel; for it is the king's sanctuary and a royal temple."	13 mais tu ne prophétiseras plus à Béthel, car c’est un sanctuaire royal, un temple du royaume.”
14 Amos answered Amaziah, "I was no prophet, nor have I belonged to a company of prophets; I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores.	14 Amos répondit à Amasias: “Je ne suis pas prophète, je ne fais pas partie des groupes de prophètes: je suis berger et je traite les sycomores.
15 The LORD took me from following the flock, and said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel.	15 Mais Yahvé m’a pris de derrière le troupeau et m’a dit: ‘Va, prophétise à mon peuple Israël.’
16 Now hear the word of the LORD!" You say: prophesy not against Israel, preach not against the house of Isaac.	16 “Puisque tu me dis maintenant: Ne prophétises plus contre Israël, cesse de raconter tes sornettes contre la maison d’Isaac, écoute cette parole de Yahvé:
17 Now thus says the LORD: Your wife shall be made a harlot in the city, and your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword; Your land shall be divided by measuring line, and you yourself shall die in an unclean land; Israel shall be exiled far from its land.	17 Ta femme se prostituera dans la ville, tes fils et tes filles seront tués par l’épée, ta terre sera partagée, et toi tu mourras sur une terre impure; quant à Israël, il sera déporté loin de sa terre.”
