1 Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us, look, and see our disgrace:	1 Ricòrdati, Signore, quello che c'è avvenuto; considera e guarda l' obbrobrio nostro.
2 Our inherited lands have been turned over to strangers, our homes to foreigners.	2 Ridutta è la nostra eredità alli alieni; le case nostre alli estranei.
3 We have become orphans, fatherless; widowed are our mothers.	3 Siamo fatti pupilli senza padre; le nostre madri sono quasi vidue.
4 The water we drink we must buy, for our own wood we must pay.	4 Abbiamo bevuta la nostra acqua per la pecunia; abbiamo comprate le nostre legna per prezzo.
5 On our necks is the yoke of those who drive us; we are worn out, but allowed no rest.	5 Eravamo minacciando con li capi; alli afflitti non si dava riposo.
6 To Egypt we submitted, and to Assyria, to fill our need of bread.	6 Noi dessimo mano all' Egitto e alli Assirii, acciò si satollassimo di pane.
7 Our fathers, who sinned, are no more; but we bear their guilt.	7 Peccorono li padri nostri, e già non sono; e noi abbiamo portate le loro iniquità.
8 Slaves rule over us; there is no one to rescue us from their hands.	8 Ci sono signoreggiati li servi; non vi fu cui ci ricomprasse della loro mano.
9 At the peril of our lives we bring in our sustenance, in the face of the desert heat;	9 Nel deserto, in presenza del coltello, a noi portavamo il pane nelle nostre anime.
10 Our skin is shriveled up, as though by a furnace, with the searing blasts of famine.	10 Abbruciata è la nostra pelle a modo di fornace, dalla faccia della tempesta della fame.
11 The wives in Zion were ravished by the enemy, the maidens in the cities of Judah;	11 Per forza hanno conosciuto le femine in Sion, e le vergini nelle città di Giuda.
12 Princes were gibbeted by them, elders shown no respect.	12 Si sono sospesi li principi con la mano; non si vergognorono le faccie de' vecchi.
13 The youths carry the millstones, boys stagger under their loads of wood;	13 Hanno impudica e disonestamente usato con li giovencioli; e hanno sospesi li fanciulli nel legno.
14 The old men have abandoned the gate, the young men their music.	14 Vennero a meno li vecchi dalle porte, li giovani dal coro de' cantanti.
15 The joy of our hearts has ceased, our dance has turned into mourning;	15 Venuto è a meno il gaudio del cuore nostro; il nostro ordine del canto è rivoltato in lamentevole pianto.
16 The garlands have fallen from our heads: woe to us, for we have sinned!	16 Caduta è la corona del capo nostro; guai a noi, imperò che abbiamo peccato!
17 Over this our hearts are sick, at this our eyes grow dim:	17 E però egli è fatto (tristo e) mesto il cuore nostro (nel dolore); e però si sono oscurati li nostri occhi,
18 That Mount Zion should be desolate, with jackals roaming there!	18 per il monte di Sion, imperò ch' egli è dissipato; si sono andate le volpi in quello.
19 You, O LORD, are enthroned forever; your throne stands from age to age.	19 Ma tu, Signore, permanerai in eterno; la tua sedia regale permanerà dalla generazione in generazione.
20 Why, then, should you forget us, abandon us so long a time?	20 I perchè in perpetuo ti sei dismenticato di noi? ci abbandoni nella longhezza de' giorni?
21 Lead us back to you, O LORD, that we may be restored: give us anew such days as we had of old.	21 Convertici, Signore, a te, e convertiremoci; rinnova li nostri giorni, come dal principio.
22 For now you have indeed rejected us, and in full measure turned your wrath against us.	22 Ma da te gittando ne hai scacciati; grandemente sei adirato contra di noi.
