1 The following message came to Jeremiah from the LORD:	1 Voici la parole venue de Yahvé qui fut adressée à Jérémie:
2 Stand at the gate of the house of the LORD, and there proclaim this message: Hear the word of the LORD, all you of Judah who enter these gates to worship the LORD!	2 “Va te placer à la porte du temple de Yahvé. Là, tu proclameras cette parole: Écoutez la parole de Yahvé, vous tous gens de Judée qui passez par ces portes et venez adorer Yahvé.
3 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Reform your ways and your deeds, so that I may remain with you in this place.	3 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: “Améliorez votre conduite, vos actes, et je resterai ici avec vous.
4 Put not your trust in the deceitful words: "This is the temple of the LORD! The temple of the LORD! The temple of the LORD!"	4 Mais ne vous fiez pas à des paroles mensongères: ‘C’est ici le Temple de Yahvé! Le Temple de Yahvé! Le Temple de Yahvé!’
5 Only if you thoroughly reform your ways and your deeds; if each of you deals justly with his neighbor;	5 “Améliorez pour de bon votre conduite et vos actes. Qu’il y ait une vraie justice entre vous;
6 if you no longer oppress the resident alien, the orphan, and the widow; if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place, or follow strange gods to your own harm,	6 n’exploitez pas l’étranger, l’orphelin et la veuve; ne répandez pas le sang innocent en ce lieu; ne suivez pas d’autres dieux pour votre malheur.
7 will I remain with you in this place, in the land which I gave your fathers long ago and forever.	7 Alors je vous ferai rester en ce lieu, sur cette terre que j’ai donnée à vos pères depuis le commencement et pour toujours.
8 But here you are, putting your trust in deceitful words to your own loss!	8 “Mais vous mettez votre confiance dans des paroles creuses qui ne mènent à rien.
9 Are you to steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal, go after strange gods that you know not,	9 Quoi! Vous volez, vous tuez, vous commettez l’adultère, vous faites de faux serments, vous brûlez l’encens devant Baal, vous suivez d’autres dieux qui ne sont pas de chez vous…
10 and yet come to stand before me in this house which bears my name, and say: "We are safe; we can commit all these abominations again"?	10 Et ensuite, vous venez vous présenter devant moi, dans ce Temple qui porte mon Nom, et vous pensez: ‘Ici nous n’aurons rien à craindre pour tous les méfaits que nous avons commis.’
11 Has this house which bears my name become in your eyes a den of thieves? I too see what is being done, says the LORD.	11 Ce Temple où s’est posé mon Nom, le regardez-vous comme une caverne de brigands? En tout cas, moi, je sais regarder - parole de Yahvé.
12 You may go to Shiloh, which I made the dwelling place of my name in the beginning. See what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.	12 “Allez donc à mon sanctuaire de Silo. C’est là que mon Nom habitait autrefois, mais voyez ce que j’en ai fait à cause des méfaits d’Israël, mon peuple.
13 And now, because you have committed all these misdeeds, says the LORD, because you did not listen, though I spoke to you untiringly; because you did not answer, though I called you,	13 “Vous maintenant vous agissez de même - parole de Yahvé. Je vous ai parlé sans me lasser et vous n’avez pas écouté. Je vous ai lancé des appels et vous n’avez pas répondu.
14 I will do to this house named after me, in which you trust, and to this place which I gave to you and your fathers, just as I did to Shiloh.	14 “C’est pourquoi, ce que j’ai fait à Silo, je vais le faire aussi pour ce Temple sur lequel s’est posé mon Nom, dans lequel vous mettez votre confiance, et pour ce lieu que j’ai donné à vos pères.
15 I will cast you away from me, as I cast away all your brethren, all the offspring of Ephraim.	15 Je vous rejetterai loin de ma face, comme j’ai rejeté tous vos frères, toute la descendance d’Éphraïm.”
16 You, now, do not intercede for this people; raise not in their behalf a pleading prayer! Do not urge me, for I will not listen to you.	16 “Et toi, n’interviens pas pour ce peuple-là, ne m’adresse pas de prières ou de supplications en leur faveur; n’insiste pas auprès de moi, car je n’écouterai pas.
17 Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah, in the streets of Jerusalem?	17 Tu ne vois donc pas ce qu’ils font dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?
18 The children gather wood, their fathers light the fire, and the women knead dough to make cakes for the queen of heaven, while libations are poured out to strange gods in order to hurt me.	18 “Les fils ramassent du bois, les pères allument le feu, les mères pétrissent la pâte et font des gâteaux pour la reine des cieux; ensuite on verse des libations à d’autres dieux pour m’insulter.
19 Is it I whom they hurt, says the LORD; is it not rather themselves, to their own confusion?	19 Mais finalement, est-ce moi qu’ils rabaissent? - parole de Yahvé. N’est-ce pas plutôt eux-mêmes, pour leur propre honte?
20 See now, says the Lord GOD, my anger and my wrath will pour out upon this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruits of the earth; it will burn without being quenched.	20 “C’est pourquoi, voici ce que dit le Seigneur Yahvé: Ma colère et ma fureur vont se déverser sur ce lieu, sur les hommes et sur les bêtes, sur les arbres des champs et sur les fruits de la terre; le feu prendra et ne s’éteindra pas!”
21 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Heap your holocausts upon your sacrifices; eat up the flesh!	21 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: “Vous pouvez accumuler vos holocaustes et vos sacrifices, et en manger la viande!
22 In speaking to your fathers on the day I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I gave them no command concerning holocaust or sacrifice.	22 Mais le jour où j’ai fait sortir vos pères du pays d’Égypte, je ne leur ai rien dit, rien commandé au sujet de l’holocauste et du sacrifice.
23 This rather is what I commanded them: Listen to my voice; then I will be your God and you shall be my people. Walk in all the ways that I command you, so that you may prosper.	23 Voici ce que je leur ai dit: “Si vous écoutez ma voix, je serai votre Dieu et vous, vous serez mon peuple. Si vous marchez dans les chemins que je vous ordonne, vous connaîtrez le bonheur.”
24 But they obeyed not, nor did they pay heed. They walked in the hardness of their evil hearts and turned their backs, not their faces, to me.	24 Mais ils n’ont pas écouté, ils n’ont pas prêté l’oreille; ils ont préféré suivre leurs mauvais penchants, si bien qu’ils ont reculé au lieu d’avancer.
25 From the day that your fathers left the land of Egypt even to this day, I have sent you untiringly all my servants the prophets.	25 Depuis le jour où vos pères sont sortis du pays d’Égypte jusqu’à ce jour, je vous ai envoyé sans me lasser mes serviteurs - tous les prophètes.
26 Yet they have not obeyed me nor paid heed; they have stiffened their necks and done worse than their fathers.	26 Mais vous ne m’avez pas écouté, vous n’avez pas prêté l’oreille, vous avez raidi votre nuque et vous avez fait le mal plus que vos pères.
27 When you speak all these words to them, they will not listen to you either; when you call to them, they will not answer you.	27 Tu auras beau leur dire tout cela, ils ne t’écouteront pas; tu les appelleras et ils ne te répondront pas.
28 Say to them: This is the nation which does not listen to the voice of the LORD, its God, or take correction. Faithfulness has disappeared; the word itself is banished from their speech.	28 Alors tu leur diras: Vous êtes bien la nation qui n’a pas écouté la voix de Yahvé son Dieu et ne s’est pas laissé instruire. Votre fidélité s’est perdue.”
29 Cut off your dedicated hair and throw it away! on the heights intone an elegy; For the LORD has rejected and cast off the generation that draws down his wrath.	29 Coupe tes longs cheveux à ras et jette-les, chante une lamentation sur les collines déboisées; car Yahvé a repoussé et rejeté cette génération qui l’insupporte.
30 The people of Judah have done what is evil in my eyes, says the LORD. They have defiled the house which bears my name by setting up in it their abominable idols.	30 Oui, les fils de Juda ont fait ce qui est mal à mes yeux - parole de Yahvé. Ils ont souillé le Temple qui porte mon Nom quand ils y ont placé leurs Ordures.
31 In the Valley of Ben-hinnom they have built the high place of Topheth to immolate in fire their sons and their daughters, such a thing as I never commanded or had in mind.	31 Ils ont construit le haut-lieu du Tophèt, dans la vallée de Ben-Hinnom, pour y passer au feu leurs fils et leurs filles. Voilà une chose que je n’avais pas commandée et à laquelle je n’avais même jamais pensé.
32 Therefore, beware! days will come, says the LORD, when Topheth and the Valley of Ben-hinnom will no longer be called such, but rather the Valley of Slaughter. For lack of space, Topheth will be a burial place.	32 C’est pourquoi dans les jours qui viennent - parole de Yahvé - on ne dira plus le “Tophèt”, ni “la vallée de Ben-Hinnom”, mais “la vallée du massacre”. Par manque de place on enterrera à Tophèt.
33 The corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the sky and for the beasts of the field, which no one will drive away.	33 Les cadavres de ce peuple deviendront la proie des oiseaux du ciel et des bêtes de la terre: personne ne les chassera.
34 In the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem I will silence the cry of joy, the cry of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land will be turned to rubble.	34 Dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem je ferai disparaître les chants de joie et de fête, le chant du marié et de la mariée, car le pays ne sera plus que ruines.
