NEW AMERICAN BIBLELXX
The greatest among his brethren, the glory of his people, was SIMON the priest, son of Jochanan, In whose time the house of God was renovated, in whose days the temple was reinforced.1 σιμων ονιου υιος ιερευς ο μεγας ος εν ζωη αυτου υπερραψεν οικον και εν ημεραις αυτου εστερεωσεν ναον
In his time also the wall was built with powerful turrets for the temple precincts;2 και υπ' αυτου εθεμελιωθη υψος διπλης αναλημμα υψηλον περιβολου ιερου
In his time the reservoir was dug, the pool with a vastness like the sea's.3 εν ημεραις αυτου ελατομηθη αποδοχειον υδατων λακκος ωσει θαλασσης το περιμετρον
He protected his people against brigands and strengthened his city against the enemy.4 ο φροντιζων του λαου αυτου απο πτωσεως και ενισχυσας πολιν εν πολιορκησει
How splendid he was as he appeared from the tent, as he came from within the veil!5 ως εδοξασθη εν περιστροφη λαου εν εξοδω οικου καταπετασματος
Like a star shining among the clouds, like the full moon at the holyday season;6 ως αστηρ εωθινος εν μεσω νεφελων ως σεληνη πληρης εν ημεραις
Like the sun shining upon the temple, like the rainbow appearing in the cloudy sky;7 ως ηλιος εκλαμπων επι ναον υψιστου και ως τοξον φωτιζον εν νεφελαις δοξης
Like the blossoms on the branches in springtime, like a lily on the banks of a stream; Like the trees of Lebanon in summer,8 ως ανθος ροδων εν ημεραις νεων ως κρινα επ' εξοδω υδατος ως βλαστος λιβανου εν ημεραις θερους
like the fire of incense at the sacrifice; Like a vessel of beaten gold, studded with precious stones;9 ως πυρ και λιβανος επι πυρειου ως σκευος χρυσιου ολοσφυρητον κεκοσμημενον παντι λιθω πολυτελει
Like a luxuriant olive tree thick with fruit, like a cypress standing against the clouds;10 ως ελαια αναθαλλουσα καρπους και ως κυπαρισσος υψουμενη εν νεφελαις
Vested in his magnificent robes, and wearing his garments of splendor, As he ascended the glorious altar and lent majesty to the court of the sanctuary.11 εν τω αναλαμβανειν αυτον στολην δοξης και ενδιδυσκεσθαι αυτον συντελειαν καυχηματος εν αναβασει θυσιαστηριου αγιου εδοξασεν περιβολην αγιασματος
When he received the sundered victims from the priests while he stood before the sacrificial wood, His brethren ringed him about like a garland, like a stand of cedars on Lebanon;12 εν δε τω δεχεσθαι μελη εκ χειρων ιερεων και αυτος εστως παρ' εσχαρα βωμου κυκλοθεν αυτου στεφανος αδελφων ως βλαστημα κεδρων εν τω λιβανω και εκυκλωσαν αυτον ως στελεχη φοινικων
All the sons of Aaron in their dignity clustered around him like poplars, With the offerings to the LORD in their hands, in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel.13 και παντες οι υιοι ααρων εν δοξη αυτων και προσφορα κυριου εν χερσιν αυτων εναντι πασης εκκλησιας ισραηλ
Once he had completed the services at the altar with the arranging of the sacrifices for the Most High,14 και συντελειαν λειτουργων επι βωμων κοσμησαι προσφοραν υψιστου παντοκρατορος
And had stretched forth his hand for the cup, to offer blood of the grape, And poured it out at the foot of the altar, a sweet-smelling odor to the Most High God,15 εξετεινεν επι σπονδειου χειρα αυτου και εσπεισεν εξ αιματος σταφυλης εξεχεεν εις θεμελια θυσιαστηριου οσμην ευωδιας υψιστω παμβασιλει
The sons of Aaron would sound a blast, the priests, on their trumpets of beaten metal; A blast to resound mightily as a reminder before the Most High.16 τοτε ανεκραγον οι υιοι ααρων εν σαλπιγξιν ελαταις ηχησαν ακουστην εποιησαν φωνην μεγαλην εις μνημοσυνον εναντι υψιστου
Then all the people with one accord would quickly fall prostrate to the ground In adoration before the Most High, before the Holy One of Israel.17 τοτε πας ο λαος κοινη κατεσπευσαν και επεσαν επι προσωπον επι την γην προσκυνησαι τω κυριω αυτων παντοκρατορι θεω υψιστω
Then hymns would re-echo, and over the throng sweet strains of praise resound.18 και ηνεσαν οι ψαλτωδοι εν φωναις αυτων εν πλειστω ηχω εγλυκανθη μελος
All the people of the land would shout for joy, praying to the Merciful One, As the high priest completed the services at the altar by presenting to God the sacrifice due;19 και εδεηθη ο λαος κυριου υψιστου εν προσευχη κατεναντι ελεημονος εως συντελεσθη κοσμος κυριου και την λειτουργιαν αυτου ετελειωσαν
Then coming down he would raise his hands over all the congregation of Israel. The blessing of the LORD would be upon his lips, the name of the LORD would be his glory.20 τοτε καταβας επηρεν χειρας αυτου επι πασαν εκκλησιαν υιων ισραηλ δουναι ευλογιαν κυριου εκ χειλεων αυτου και εν ονοματι αυτου καυχησασθαι
Then again the people would lie prostrate to receive from him the blessing of the Most High.21 και εδευτερωσαν εν προσκυνησει επιδεξασθαι την ευλογιαν παρα υψιστου
And now, bless the God of all, who has done wondrous things on earth; Who fosters men's growth from their mother's womb, and fashions them according to his will!22 και νυν ευλογησατε τον θεον παντων τον μεγαλα ποιουντα παντη τον υψουντα ημερας ημων εκ μητρας και ποιουντα μεθ' ημων κατα το ελεος αυτου
May he grant you joy of heart and may peace abide among you;23 δωη ημιν ευφροσυνην καρδιας και γενεσθαι ειρηνην εν ημεραις ημων εν ισραηλ κατα τας ημερας του αιωνος
May his goodness toward us endure in Israel as long as the heavens are above.24 εμπιστευσαι μεθ' ημων το ελεος αυτου και εν ταις ημεραις ημων λυτρωσασθω ημας
My whole being loathes two nations, the third is not even a people:25 εν δυσιν εθνεσιν προσωχθισεν η ψυχη μου και το τριτον ουκ εστιν εθνος
Those who live in Seir and Philistia, and the degenerate folk who dwell in Shechem.26 οι καθημενοι εν ορει σαμαρειας και φυλιστιιμ και ο λαος ο μωρος ο κατοικων εν σικιμοις
Wise instruction, appropriate proverbs, I have written in this book, I, Jesus, son of Eleazar, son of Sirach, as they gushed forth from my heart's understanding.27 παιδειαν συνεσεως και επιστημης εχαραξεν εν τω βιβλιω τουτω ιησους υιος σιραχ ελεαζαρ ο ιεροσολυμιτης ος ανωμβρησεν σοφιαν απο καρδιας αυτου
Happy the man who meditates upon these things, wise the man who takes them to heart!28 μακαριος ος εν τουτοις αναστραφησεται και θεις αυτα επι καρδιαν αυτου σοφισθησεται
If he puts them into practice, he can cope with anything, for the fear of the LORD is his lamp.29 εαν γαρ αυτα ποιηση προς παντα ισχυσει οτι φως κυριου το ιχνος αυτου
