Sirach 23

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 LORD, Father and Master of my life, permit me not to fall by them!	1 Domenedio, padre e signoreggiatore della vita mia, non mi lasciare nel consiglio (sconsiderato) di coloro, e non mi lasciar cadere in quella vergogna (e improperio).
2 Who will apply the lash to my thoughts, to my mind the rod of discipline, That my failings may not be spared, nor the sins of my heart overlooked;	2 Or chi darae alli miei pensieri flagelli, e al cuor mio dottrina di sapienza, acciò che non mi risparmino nelle orazioni (d' essere corretto nel pensiero e ammaestrato nel cuore), e non appariscano li peccati loro,
3 Lest my failings increase, and my sins be multiplied; Lest I succumb to my foes, and my enemy rejoice over me?	3 e non crescano le ignoranze mie, e non moltìplichino li falli miei, e non abbondino li peccati miei, e non caggi nel conspetto delli avversarii miei, e allègrisene lo nimico mio?
4 LORD, Father and God of my life, abandon me not into their control!	4 Signore, padre e Iddio della vita mia, non mi lasciare nel pensiero loro.
5 A brazen look allow me not; ward off passion from my heart,	5 E non mi dare nello alzamento degli occhi miei, e ogni desiderio isvolgi di me.
6 Let not the lustful cravings of the flesh master me, surrender me not to shameless desires.	6 Togli da me le concupiscenze del ventre, li congiugamenti della concupiscenza non mi piglino, e non mi dare a niuno irridente nè isfrenato.
7 Give heed, my children, to the instruction that I pronounce, for he who keeps it will not be enslaved.	7 Udite, figliuoli, la dottrina della bocca mia; e chi la osserverà, non perirà per la bocca sua, non sarà scandalizzato nell' opere iniquissime.
8 Through his lips is the sinner ensnared; the railer and the arrogant man fall thereby.	8 Nella vanitade sua è preso il peccatore; e il superbo e il maldicente si scandalizzerae in quello.
9 Let not your mouth form the habit of swearing, or becoming too familiar with the Holy Name.	9 Non adusare la bocca tua a giurare, però che molto cadimento è in quello.
10 Just as a slave that is constantly under scrutiny will not be without welts, So one who swears continually by the Holy Name will not remain free from sin.	10 Il nominare Iddio non sia continuo nella bocca tua, e in tutti santi non ti mescolare; però che non sarai sanza pena da loro.
11 A man who often swears heaps up obligations; the scourge will never be far from his house. If he swears in error, he incurs guilt; if he neglects his obligation, his sin is doubly great. If he swears without reason he cannot be found just, and all his house will suffer affliction.	11 Sì come il servo, richiesto spesso, non è invidiato, così ciascuno che giurerae e nominerae, in tutto non sarae sanza peccato.
12 There are words which merit death; may they never be heard among Jacob's heirs. For all such words are foreign to the devout, who do not wallow in sin.	12 L'uomo che molto giura, si riempierae di iniquitade; e la piaga non si partirae dalla casa di colui.
13 Let not your mouth become used to coarse talk, for in it lies sinful matter.	13 E se elli ingannerae (il prossimo), il peccato suo sarae sopra lui; e se egli s' infignerae, peccherà doppiamente.
14 Keep your father and mother in mind when you sit among the mighty, Lest in their presence you commit a blunder and disgrace your upbringing, By wishing you had never been born or cursing the day of your birth.	14 E se a vòto giurerae, non fia giustificato; la casa sua si riempierae di pessimo merito.
15 A man who has the habit of abusive language will never mature in character as long as he lives.	15 Ed è un altro parlare contrario (che chi l'userae) nella morte; non si troverà nella eredità di Iacob.
16 Two types of men multiply sins, a third draws down wrath; For burning passion is a blazing fire, not to be quenched till it burns itself out: A man given to sins of the flesh, who never stops until the fire breaks forth;	16 Però questi parlari tutti si tolgano dalli misericordiosi; e non si convolgano nelli peccati,
17 The rake to whom all bread is sweet and who is never through till he dies;	17 Non adusare al parlare disordinato la bocca tua; però che in quello è parola di peccato.
18 And the man who dishonors his marriage bed and says to himself "Who can see me? Darkness surrounds me, walls hide me; no one sees me; why should I fear to sin?" Of the Most High he is not mindful,	18 Ricòrdati del padre e della madre tua, però che nel mezzo stai de' grandi,
19 fearing only the eyes of men; He does not understand that the eyes of the LORD, ten thousand times brighter than the sun, Observe every step a man takes and peer into hidden corners.	19 acciò che non dimentichi di te Iddio nel conspetto di coloro, e impazzato dalla tua continuanza sostegni rimproperio, e averesti voluto inanzi non essere nato, e maledichi il dì della tua nativitade.
20 He who knows all things before they exist still knows them all after they are made.	20 L'uomo accostumato alle parole del rimproperio, in tutti li dì della vita sua non fia ammaestrato.
21 Such a man will be punished in the streets of the city; when he least expects it, he will be apprehended.	21 Due generazioni abondano nelli peccati, e la terza generazione adduce ira e perdizione.
22 So also with the woman who is unfaithful to her husband and offers as heir her son by a stranger.	22 L'anima maliziosa sì è come fuoco ardente; non si spegne infino a tanto che alcuna cosa inghiottisca.
23 First, she has disobeyed the law of the Most High; secondly, she has wronged her husband; Thirdly, in her wanton adultery she has borne children by another man.	23 E l'uomo malvagio nella bocca della carne sua non cesserà, insino a tanto che accenderà il fuoco.
24 Such a woman will be dragged before the assembly, and her punishment will extend to her children;	24 All' uomo fornicario ogni pane è dolce; e non rincrescerae (infino) ch' elli peccherà infino alla fine.
25 Her children will not take root; her branches will not bring forth fruit.	25 Ogni uomo che travarica il letto suo, dispregiando nell' anima sua, e dicendo: or chi mi vede?
26 She will leave an accursed memory; her disgrace will never be blotted out.	26 Le tenebre attorniano me, e le pareti mi cuoprono, e niuno mi vede; cui temo? l' Altissimo non si ricorderà de' miei peccati.
27 Thus all who dwell on the earth shall know, and all who inhabit the world shall understand, That nothing is better than the fear of the LORD, nothing more salutary than to obey his commandments.	27 E non intende che l'occhio di colui vede tutte le cose, e ch' elli caccia da sè lo timore di Dio: or che paura è questa di quello cotale uomo? e li occhi di colui temono tutti.
	28 E non intese, che gli occhi di Dio sono molto più lucenti sopra il sole, ragguardando tutte le vie degli uomini, il profondo del mare e il cuore dentro delli uomini (i quali guardano tutte le cose) nelle parti secrete.
	29 Al Signore Iddio, inanzi che le cose fussono create, furono conosciute da lui; e così, poi che furono fatte, vede tutte le cose.
	30 Questo sarà giudicato nelle piazze della cittàde; e come puledro sarà cacciato, e dove non spererae sarà preso.
	31 E sarae vituperio di tutti, però che non averae inteso il timore di Dio.
	32 Così ogni femina che lascerà il marito suo, e ordinerae la ereditade da altro marito,
	33 primamente fu incredibile nella legge dello Altissimo; e appresso lascioe il marito suo; poi fornicò in adulterio, e d' altro marito ordinoe a sè figliuoli.
	34 Costei fia menata nella chiesa, e nelli suoi figliuoli sarà veduta.
	35 Li figliuoli suoi non faranno radici, e li rami suoi non faranno frutto.
	36 Ma lasceranno in maledizione (l'anima sua
	37 E conosceranno coloro che rimarranno, che nulla è meglio che il timore di Dio, e nulla è più dolce che guardare li comandamenti di Dio.
	38 Grande gloria è seguire Iddio; però che lunghezza di dì si riceverà da lui.
