1 False scales are an abomination to the LORD, but a full weight is his delight.	1 Utálja az Úr a hamis mérleget, de kedvét leli a csorbítatlan súlyban.
2 When pride comes, disgrace comes; but with the humble is wisdom.	2 Ahol gőg van, ott gyalázat is lesz, de ahol szerénység van, ott bölcsesség is van.
3 The honesty of the upright guides them; the faithless are ruined by their duplicity.	3 Az igazakat jámborságuk bizton vezérli, de a csalókat tönkreteszi hamisságuk.
4 Wealth is useless on the day of wrath, but virtue saves from death.	4 Semmit sem használ a gazdagság a harag napján, a becsületesség azonban megóv a haláltól.
5 The honest man's virtue makes his way straight, but by his wickedness the wicked man falls.	5 A jámbor útját igaz volta egyengeti, a gonoszt pedig gonoszsága elejti.
6 The virtue of the upright saves them, but the faithless are caught in their own intrigue.	6 A becsületes embereket megmenti igaz voltuk, a csalók pedig ármányaik tőrébe esnek.
7 When a wicked man dies his hope perishes, and what is expected from strength comes to nought.	7 A gonosz ember halála véget vet a reménynek, s a vagyonba vetett bizalom szertefoszlik.
8 The just man escapes trouble, and the wicked man falls into it in his stead.	8 Az igaz megmenekszik a szorongatásból, s a gonosz jut a helyébe.
9 With his mouth the impious man would ruin his neighbor, but through their knowledge the just make their escape.	9 Az álnok tőrt vet szájával társának, de az igazakat megmenti okosságuk.
10 When the just prosper, the city rejoices; and when the wicked perish, there is jubilation.	10 Az igazak jó sorsának megörül a város, s a gonoszok romlásán nagy az ujjongás.
11 Through the blessing of the righteous the city is exalted, but through the mouth of the wicked it is overthrown.	11 Az igazak áldása által emelkedik a város, a gonoszok szája pedig lerontja azt.
12 He who reviles his neighbor has no sense, but the intelligent man keeps silent.	12 Az együgyű lenézi társát, az okos férfi pedig meghallgatja.
13 A newsmonger reveals secrets, but a trustworthy man keeps a confidence.	13 Aki pletykával házal, kibeszéli a titkot, aki pedig megbízható, elrejti, amit barátja rábízott.
14 For lack of guidance a people falls; security lies in many counselors.	14 Ahol nincsen vezér, elvész a nép, de jólét van ott, hol bőven akad tanácsadó.
15 He is in a bad way who becomes surety for another, but he who hates giving pledges is safe.	15 Rosszul jár, aki idegenért jótáll, bizton csak az van, aki kerüli a kezességet.
16 A gracious woman wins esteem, but she who hates virtue is covered with shame. (The slothful become impoverished, but the diligent gain wealth.)	16 A tisztességes asszony becsületet arat, a szorgosak pedig vagyonhoz jutnak.
17 A kindly man benefits himself, but a merciless man harms himself.	17 A könyörületes ember magával is jót tesz, a kegyetlen pedig rokonait is eltaszítja.
18 The wicked man makes empty profits, but he who sows virture has a sure reward.	18 Csalóka nyereségre dolgozik a gonosz, aki igazságot vet, annak lesz maradandó jutalma.
19 Virtue directs toward life, but he who pursues evil does so to his death.	19 A jóság életet szerez, a gonosz követése pedig halált.
20 The depraved in heart are an abomination to the LORD, but those who walk blamelessly are his delight.	20 Utálja az Úr az álnok szívet, de kedvét leli azokban, akiknek útja feddhetetlen.
21 Truly the evil man shall not go unpunished, but those who are just shall escape.	21 A kezem rá, hogy a gonosznak nincsen mentsége, az igazak ivadéka azonban megmenekszik.
22 Like a golden ring in a swine's snout is a beautiful woman with a rebellious disposition.	22 Sertés orrában aranykarika: ilyen a szép nő, ha illetlen.
23 The desire of the just ends only in good; the expectation of the wicked is wrath.	23 Az igazak csak jót remélhetnek, a gonoszokra pedig a harag vár.
24 One man is lavish yet grows still richer; another is too sparing, yet is the poorer.	24 Vannak, akik elosztják a magukét és gazdagabbak lesznek, mások elragadják a másét, és folyton nélkülöznek.
25 He who confers benefits will be amply enriched, and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.	25 Aki áldásban részesít, maga is gyarapszik, s aki itat, maga is betelik itallal.
26 Him who monopolizes grain, the people curse-- but blessings upon the head of him who distributes it!	26 Elátkozza a nép azt, aki visszatartja gabonáját, de áldás száll annak fejére, aki áruba bocsátja.
27 He who seeks the good commands favor, but he who pursues evil will have evil befall him.	27 Jókor kel reggel, aki jót akar, aki pedig rosszat tervez, maga kerül bajba.
28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, but like green leaves the just flourish.	28 Aki gazdagságában bízik, elbukik, az igazak pedig virulnak, mint a friss lombkorona.
29 He who upsets his household has empty air for a heritage; and the fool will become slave to the wise man.	29 Aki megbolygatja házát, szelet vet, s a balga a bölcsnek lesz szolgája.
30 The fruit of virtue is a tree of life, but violence takes lives away.	30 Az igaznak gyümölcse az élet fája, de a gonoszság elveszti a lelkeket.
31 If the just man is punished on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner!	31 Ha az igaz is megkapja a földön a magáét, mennyivel inkább a gonosz és a bűnös!
