1 Whoever might vainly hope to do so need only see him to be overthrown.	1 Vedi com'è fallita la tua speranza; al solo vederlo uno resta sgomento.
2 Is he not relentless when aroused; who then dares stand before him?	2 Nessuno è tanto audace da osare di provocarlo, e chi mai potrebbe resistergli faccia a faccia?
3 Who has assailed him and come off safe-- Who under all the heavens?	3 Chi mai lo ha affrontato senza danno? Nessuno sotto tutto il cielo.
4 I need hardly mention his limbs, his strength, and the fitness of his armor.	4 Non passerò sotto silenzio le sue membra, in fatto di forza non ha pari.
5 Who can strip off his outer garment, or penetrate his double corselet?	5 Chi ha aperto sul davanti il suo manto, e attraverso la sua doppia corazza chi può penetrare?
6 Who can force open the doors of his mouth, close to his terrible teeth?	6 Chi mai ha aperto la porta delle sue fauci, circondate da denti spaventosi?
7 Rows of scales are on his back, tightly sealed together;	7 Il suo dorso è una distesa di squame, strettamente saldate con un suggello.
8 They are fitted each so close to the next that no space intervenes;	8 L'una con l'altra si toccano, così che neppure il vento passa tramezzo;
9 So joined one to another that they hold fast and cannot be parted.	9 saldate le une con le altre, sono compatte e non possono separarsi.
10 When he sneezes, light flashes forth; his eyes are like those of the dawn.	10 Il suo starnuto irradia luce e i suoi occhi sono come le pupille dell'aurora.
11 Out of his mouth go forth firebrands; sparks of fire leap forth.	11 Dalle sue fauci partono vampate, sprizzano scintille di fuoco.
12 From his nostrils issues steam, as from a seething pot or bowl.	12 Dalle sue narici esce fumo, come da pentola attizzata e bollente.
13 His breath sets coals afire; a flame pours from his mouth.	13 Il suo fiato incendia carboni e dalle sue fauci escono fiamme.
14 Strength abides in his neck, and terror leaps before him.	14 Nel suo collo ha sede la forza e innanzi a lui incede il terrore.
	15 Le giogaie della sua carne sono ben compatte, sono ben salde su di lui e non si muovono.
16 His heart is hard as stone; his flesh, as the lower millstone.	16 Il suo cuore è duro come pietra, solido come la macina inferiore.
17 When he rises up, the mighty are afraid; the waves of the sea fall back.	17 Quando si alza, si spaventano i forti, e per il terrore restano smarriti.
18 Should the sword reach him, it will not avail; nor will the spear, nor the dart, nor the javelin.	18 La spada che lo raggiunge non gli si infigge, né lancia né freccia né giavellotto.
19 He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood.	19 Considera il ferro come paglia e il bronzo come legno tarlato.
20 The arrow will not put him to flight; slingstones used against him are but straws.	20 La freccia non lo mette in fuga; le pietre della fionda si cambiano per lui in preda.
21 Clubs he esteems as splinters; he laughs at the crash of the spear.	21 La mazza è per lui come stoppia e si fa beffe del vibrare dell'asta.
22 His belly is sharp as pottery fragments; he spreads like a threshing sledge upon the mire.	22 Sotto la pancia ha delle punte acuminate, e come erpice striscia sul molle terreno.
23 He makes the depths boil like a pot; the sea he churns like perfume in a kettle.	23 Fa bollire come pentola il gorgo e trasforma il mare in vaso d'unguento.
24 Behind him he leaves a shining path; you would think the deep had the hoary head of age.	24 Si lascia dietro una scia di luce e l'abisso sembra coperto di canizie.
25 Upon the earth there is not his like, intrepid he was made.	25 Non v'è nulla sulla terra che lo domini, lui che fu fatto intrepido.
26 All, however lofty, fear him; he is king over all proud beasts.	26 Su tutte le altezze egli guarda dall'alto, egli è il re di tutte le fiere superbe!".
