NEW AMERICAN BIBLELXX
The LORD then said to Job:1 και απεκριθη κυριος ο θεος τω ιωβ και ειπεν
Will we have arguing with the Almighty by the critic? Let him who would correct God give answer!2 μη κρισιν μετα ικανου εκκλινει ελεγχων θεον αποκριθησεται αυτην
Then Job answered the LORD and said:3 υπολαβων δε ιωβ λεγει τω κυριω
Behold, I am of little account; what can I answer you? I put my hand over my mouth.4 τι ετι εγω κρινομαι νουθετουμενος και ελεγχων κυριον ακουων τοιαυτα ουθεν ων εγω δε τινα αποκρισιν δω προς ταυτα χειρα θησω επι στοματι μου
Though I have spoken once, I will not do so again; though twice, I will do so no more.5 απαξ λελαληκα επι δε τω δευτερω ου προσθησω
Then the LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said:6 ετι δε υπολαβων ο κυριος ειπεν τω ιωβ εκ του νεφους
Gird up your loins now, like a man. I will question you, and you tell me the answers!7 μη αλλα ζωσαι ωσπερ ανηρ την οσφυν σου ερωτησω δε σε συ δε μοι αποκριθητι
Would you refuse to acknowledge my right? Would you condemn me that you may be justified?8 μη αποποιου μου το κριμα οιει δε με αλλως σοι κεχρηματικεναι η ινα αναφανης δικαιος
Have you an arm like that of God, or can you thunder with a voice like his?9 η βραχιων σοι εστιν κατα του κυριου η φωνη κατ' αυτον βροντας
Adorn yourself with grandeur and majesty, and array yourself with glory and splendor.10 αναλαβε δη υψος και δυναμιν δοξαν δε και τιμην αμφιεσαι
Let loose the fury of your wrath;11 αποστειλον δε αγγελους οργη παν δε υβριστην ταπεινωσον
tear down the wicked and shatter them. Bring down the haughty with a glance;12 υπερηφανον δε σβεσον σηψον δε ασεβεις παραχρημα
bury them in the dust together; in the hidden world imprison them.13 κρυψον δε εις γην εξω ομοθυμαδον τα δε προσωπα αυτων ατιμιας εμπλησον
Then will I too acknowledge that your own right hand can save you.14 ομολογησω αρα οτι δυναται η δεξια σου σωσαι
See, besides you I made Behemoth, that feeds on grass like an ox.15 αλλα δη ιδου θηρια παρα σοι χορτον ισα βουσιν εσθιει
Behold the strength in his loins, and his vigor in the sinews of his belly.16 ιδου δη ισχυς αυτου επ' οσφυι η δε δυναμις επ' ομφαλου γαστρος
He carries his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are like cables.17 εστησεν ουραν ως κυπαρισσον τα δε νευρα αυτου συμπεπλεκται
His bones are like tubes of bronze; his frame is like iron rods.18 αι πλευραι αυτου πλευραι χαλκειαι η δε ραχις αυτου σιδηρος χυτος
He came at the beginning of God's ways, and was made the taskmaster of his fellows;19 τουτ' εστιν αρχη πλασματος κυριου πεποιημενον εγκαταπαιζεσθαι υπο των αγγελων αυτου
For the produce of the mountains is brought to him, and of all wild animals he makes sport.20 επελθων δε επ' ορος ακροτομον εποιησεν χαρμονην τετραποσιν εν τω ταρταρω
Under the lotus trees he lies, in coverts of the reedy swamp.21 υπο παντοδαπα δενδρα κοιμαται παρα παπυρον και καλαμον και βουτομον
The lotus trees cover him with their shade; all about him are the poplars on the bank.22 σκιαζονται δε εν αυτω δενδρα μεγαλα συν ραδαμνοις και κλωνες αγνου
If the river grows violent, he is not disturbed; he is tranquil though the torrent surges about his mouth.23 εαν γενηται πλημμυρα ου μη αισθηθη πεποιθεν οτι προσκρουσει ο ιορδανης εις το στομα αυτου
Who can capture him by his eyes, or pierce his nose with a trap?24 εν τω οφθαλμω αυτου δεξεται αυτον ενσκολιευομενος τρησει ρινα
Can you lead about Leviathan with a hook, or curb his tongue with a bit?25 αξεις δε δρακοντα εν αγκιστρω περιθησεις δε φορβεαν περι ρινα αυτου
Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce through his cheek with a gaff?26 ει δησεις κρικον εν τω μυκτηρι αυτου ψελιω δε τρυπησεις το χειλος αυτου
Will he then plead with you, time after time, or address you with tender words?27 λαλησει δε σοι δεησει ικετηρια μαλακως
Will he make an agreement with you that you may have him as a slave forever?28 θησεται δε διαθηκην μετα σου λημψη δε αυτον δουλον αιωνιον
Can you play with him, as with a bird? Can you put him in leash for your maidens?29 παιξη δε εν αυτω ωσπερ ορνεω η δησεις αυτον ωσπερ στρουθιον παιδιω
Will the traders bargain for him? Will the merchants divide him up?30 ενσιτουνται δε εν αυτω εθνη μεριτευονται δε αυτον φοινικων γενη
Can you fill his hide with barbs, or his head with fish spears?31 παν δε πλωτον συνελθον ου μη ενεγκωσιν βυρσαν μιαν ουρας αυτου και εν πλοιοις αλιεων κεφαλην αυτου
Once you but lay a hand upon him, no need to recall any other conflict!32 επιθησεις δε αυτω χειρα μνησθεις πολεμον τον γινομενον εν σωματι αυτου και μηκετι γινεσθω
