1 But after he had proved his fidelity by such deeds, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came. He invaded Judah, besieged the fortified cities, and proposed to take them by storm.	1 Después de todas estas pruebas de fidelidad, vino Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, invadió Judá, puso sitio a las ciudades fortificadas y mandó forzar las murallas.
2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was coming with the intention of attacking Jerusalem,	2 Cuando vio Ezequías que Senaquerib venía con intención de atacar a Jerusalén,
3 he decided in counsel with his princes and warriors to stop the waters of the springs outside the city. When they had pledged him their support,	3 tomó consejo con sus jefes y sus valientes en orden a cegar las fuentes de agua que había fuera de la ciudad; y ellos le apoyaron.
4 a large crowd was gathered which stopped all the springs and also the running stream in the valley nearby. For they said, "Why should the kings of Assyria come and find an abundance of water?"	4 Juntóse mucha gente, y cegaron todas las fuentes y el arroyo que corría por medio de la región, diciendo: «Cuando vengan los reyes de Asiria, ¿por qué han de hallar tanta agua?»
5 He then looked to his defenses: he rebuilt the wall where it was broken down, raised towers upon it, and built another wall outside. He strengthened the Millo of the City of David and had a great number of spears and shields prepared.	5 Y cobrando ánimo, reparó toda la muralla que estaba derribada, alzando torres sobre la misma, levantó otro muralla exterior, fortificó el Milló en la Ciudad de David, y fabricó una gran cantidad de armas arrojadizas y escudos.
6 Then he appointed army commanders over the people. He gathered them together in his presence in the open space at the gate of the city and encouraged them with these words:	6 Puso jefes de combate sobre el pueblo, los reunió a su lado en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad, y hablándoles al corazón, dijo:
7 "Be brave and steadfast; do not be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria and all the throng that is coming with him, for there is more with us than with him.	7 «Sed fuertes y tened ánimo; no temáis, ni desmayéis ante el rey de Asiria, ni ante toda la muchedumbre que viene con él, porque es más el que está con nosotros que el que está con él.
8 For he has only an arm of flesh, but we have the LORD, our God, to help us and to fight our battles." And the people took confidence from the words of King Hezekiah of Judah.	8 Con él está un brazo de carne, pero con nosotros está Yahveh nuestro Dios para ayudarnos y para combatir nuestros combates». Y el pueblo quedó confortado con las palabras de Ezequías, rey de Judá.
9 After this, while Sennacherib, king of Assyria, himself remained at Lachish with all his forces, he sent his officials to Jerusalem with this message for King Hezekiah of Judah, and all the Judahites who were in Jerusalem:	9 Después de esto, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, que estaba sitiando Lakís, con todas sus fuerzas, envió sus siervos a Jerusalén, a Ezequías, rey de Judá, y a todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalén para decirles:
10 "King Sennacherib of Assyria has this to say: On what are you relying, while you remain under siege in Jerusalem?	10 «Así dice Senaquerib, rey de Asiria: ¿En qué ponéis vuestra confianza, para que permanezcáis cercados en Jerusalén?
11 Has not Hezekiah deceived you, delivering you over to a death of famine and thirst, by his claim that 'the LORD, our God, will save us from the grasp of the king of Assyria'?	11 ¿No os engaña Ezequías para entregaros a la muerte por hambre y sed, cuando dice: “Yahveh nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria”?
12 Has not this same Hezekiah removed his high places and altars and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, 'You shall prostrate yourselves before one altar only, and on it alone you shall offer incense'?	12 ¿No es este el mismo Ezequías que ha quitado sus altos y sus altares y ha dicho a Judá y Jerusalén: “Ante un solo altar os postraréis y sobre él habréis de quemar incienso”?
13 Do you not know what my fathers and I have done to all the peoples of other lands? Were the gods of the nations in those lands able to save their lands from my hand?	13 ¿Acaso no sabéis lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho con todos los pueblos de los países? ¿Por ventura los dioses de las naciones de estos países han sido capaces de librar sus territorios de mi mano?
14 Who among all the gods of those nations which my fathers put under the ban was able to save his people from my hand? Will your god, then, be able to save you from my hand?	14 ¿Quién de entre todos los dioses de aquellas naciones que mis padres dieron al anatema pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano? ¿Es que vuestro Dios podrá libraros de mi mano?
15 Let not Hezekiah mislead you further and deceive you in any such way. Do not believe him! Since no other god of any other nation or kingdom has been able to save his people from my hand or the hands of my fathers, how much the less shall your god save you from my hand!"	15 Ahora, pues, que no os engañe Ezequías ni os embauque de esa manera. No le creáis; ningún dios de ninguna nación ni de ningún reino ha podido salvar a su pueblo de mi mano, ni de la mano de mis padres, ¡cuánto menos podrá vuestro Dios libraros a vosotros de mi mano!»
16 His officials said still more against the LORD God and against his servant Hezekiah,	16 Sus siervos dijeron todavía más cosas contra Yahveh Dios y contra Ezequías su siervo.
17 for he had written letters to deride the LORD, the God of Israel, speaking of him in these terms: "As the gods of the nations in other lands have not saved their people from my hand, neither shall Hezekiah's god save his people from my hand."	17 Escribió además cartas para insultar a Yahveh, Dios de Israel, hablando contra él de este modo: «Así como los dioses de las naciones de otros países no han salvado a sus pueblos de mi mano, así tampoco el Dios de Ezequías salvará a su pueblo de mi mano».
18 In a loud voice they shouted in the Judean language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten and terrify them so that they might capture their city.	18 Los enviados gritaban en voz alta, en lengua judía, al pueblo de Jerusalén, que estaba sobre el muro, para atemorizarlos y asustarlos, y poder conquistar la ciudad,
19 They spoke of the God of Israel as though he were one of the gods of the other peoples of the earth, a work of human hands.	19 y hablando del Dios de Jerusalén como de los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, que son obra de manos de hombre.
20 But because of this, King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, son of Amos, prayed and called out to heaven.	20 En esta situación, el rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós, oraron y clamaron al cielo.
21 Then the LORD sent an angel, who destroyed every valiant warrior, leader and commander in the camp of the Assyrian king, so that he had to return shamefaced to his own country. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down there with the sword.	21 Y Yahveh envió un ángel que exterminó a todos los guerreros esforzados de su ejército, a los príncipes y a los jefes que había en el campamento del rey de Asiria; el cual volvió a su tierra cubierta la cara de vergüenza, y al entrar en la casa de su dios, allí mismo, los hijos de sus propias entrañas le hicieron caer a espada.
22 Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib, king of Assyria, as from every other power; he gave them rest on every side.	22 Así salvó Yahveh a Ezequías y a los habitantes de Jerusalén de la mano de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y de la mano de todos sus enemigos, y les dio paz por todos lados.
23 Many brought gifts for the LORD to Jerusalem and costly objects for King Hezekiah of Judah, who thereafter was exalted in the eyes of all the nations.	23 Muchos trajeron entonces ofrendas a Yahveh, a Jerusalén, y presentes a Ezequías, rey de Judá; el cual de allí en adelante adquirió gran prestigio a los ojos de todas las naciones.
24 In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. He prayed to the LORD, who answered him by giving him a sign.	24 En aquellos días Ezequías cayó enfermo de muerte; pero hizo oración a Yahveh, que le escuchó y le otorgó una señal maravillosa.
25 Hezekiah, however, did not then discharge his debt of gratitude, for he had become proud. Therefore anger descended upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.	25 Pero Ezequías no correspondió al bien que había recibido, pues se ensoberbeció su corazón, por lo cual la Cólera vino sobre él, sobre Judá y Jerusalén.
26 But then Hezekiah humbled himself for his pride--both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and therefore the LORD did not vent his anger on them during the time of Hezekiah.	26 Mas después de haberse ensoberbecido en su corazón, se humilló Ezequías, él y los habitantes de Jerusalén; y por eso no estalló contra ellos la ira de Yahveh en los días de Ezequías.
27 Hezekiah possessed very great wealth and glory. He had treasuries made for his silver, gold, precious stones, spices, jewels, and other precious things of all kinds;	27 Ezequías tuvo riquezas y gloria en gran abundancia. Adquirió tesoros de plata, oro, piedras preciosas, bálsamos, joyas y de toda suerte de objetos de valor.
28 also storehouses for the harvest of grain, for wine and oil, and barns for the various kinds of cattle and for the flocks.	28 Tuvo también almacenes para las rentas de trigo, de mosto y de aceite; pesebres para toda clase de ganado y apriscos para los rebaños.
29 He built cities for himself, and he acquired sheep and oxen in great numbers, for God gave him very great riches.	29 Se hizo con asnos y poseía ganado menor y mayor en abundancia, pues Dios le había dado muchísima hacienda.
30 This same Hezekiah stopped the upper outflow of water from Gihon and led it underground westward to the City of David. Hezekiah prospered in all his undertakings.	30 Este mismo Ezequías cegó la salida superior de las aguas del Guijón y las condujo, bajo tierra, a la parte occidental de la Ciudad de David. Ezequías triunfó en todas sus empresas;
31 Nevertheless, in respect to the ambassadors (princes) sent to him from Babylon to investigate the sign that had occurred in the land, God forsook him to test him, that he might know all that was in his heart.	31 cuando los príncipes de Babilonia enviaron embajadores para investigar la señal maravillosa ocurrida en el país, Dios le abandonó para probarle y descubrir todo lo que tenía en su corazón.
32 The rest of Hezekiah's acts, including his pious works, can be found written in the Vision of the Prophet Isaiah, son of Amos, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.	32 El resto de los hechos de Ezequías y sus obras piadosas están escritos en las visiones del profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós, y en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.
33 Hezekiah rested with his ancestors; he was buried at the approach to the tombs of the descendants of David. All Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem paid him honor at his death. His son Manasseh succeeded him as king.	33 Se acostó Ezequías con sus padres, y le sepultaron en la subida de los sepulcros de los hijos de David; y todo Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén le rindieron honores a su muerte. En su lugar reinó su hijo Manasés.
