1 Upon Azariah, son of Oded, came the spirit of God.	1 Azarías, hijo de Oded, sobre el que había descendido el espíritu de Dios,
2 He went forth to meet Asa and said to him: "Hear me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin! The LORD is with you when you are with him, and if you seek him he will be present to you; but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.	2 salió al encuentro de Asá y le dijo: «¡Escúchenme, Asá y todo Judá y Benjamín! El Señor está con ustedes cuando ustedes están con él. Si lo buscan, él se dejará encontrar por ustedes; si lo abandonan, él los abandonará.
3 For a long time Israel had no true God, no priest-teacher and no law,	3 Durante mucho tiempo Israel estuvo sin verdadero Dios, sin sacerdote que lo instruyera y sin ley.
4 but when in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was present to them.	4 Pero en su angustia, ellos se volvieron hacia el Señor, el Dios de Israel; lo buscaron, y el Señor se dejó encontrar por ellos.
5 In that former time there was no peace for anyone to go or come, but there were many terrors upon the inhabitants of the lands.	5 En aquellos tiempos no había paz para nadie, sino grandes tribulaciones sobre todos los habitantes del país.
6 Nation crushed nation and city crushed city, for God destroyed them by every kind of adversity.	6 La gente y las ciudades se destruían unas contra otras, porque Dios las perturbaba con toda clase de calamidades.
7 But as for you, be strong and do not relax, for your work shall be rewarded."	7 Pero ustedes, ¡manténganse firmes y no desfallezcan! Porque sus obras serán recompensadas».
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy (Oded the prophet), he was encouraged to remove the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had taken in the highlands of Ephraim, and to restore the altar of the LORD which was before the vestibule of the LORD.	8 Al oír estas palabras y la profecía que había pronunciado Azarías, hijo de Oded, Asá se decidió a eliminar los ídolos abominables de todo el territorio de Judá y Benjamín, y también de las ciudades que había conquistado en la montaña de Efraím. Además, restauró el altar del Señor que estaba delante del Vestíbulo del Templo.
9 Then he convened all Judah and Benjamin, together with those of Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who sojourned with them; for many had fled to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD, his God, was with him.	9 Luego reunió a todo Judá y Benjamín, y a los hombres de Efraím, de Manasés y de Simeón que residían con ellos, porque mucha gente de Israel se había pasado de Asá, al ver que el Señor, su Dios, estaba con él.
10 They gathered at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign,	10 Ellos se reunieron en Jerusalén el tercer mes del año quince del reinado de Asá.
11 and sacrificed to the LORD at that time seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep of the booty they had brought.	11 Aquel día sacrificaron al Señor setecientos bueyes y siete mil ovejas del botín que habían traído,
12 They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul;	12 e hicieron un pacto, comprometiéndose a buscar al Señor, el Dios de sus padres, con todo su corazón y con toda su alma:
13 and everyone who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.	13 a todo el que no buscara al Señor, el Dios de Israel, se lo había morir, fuera grande o pequeño, hombre o mujer.
14 They swore to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.	14 Así lo juraron al Señor en alta voz. con gritos de júbilo y al son de trompetas y cuernos.
15 All Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn with their whole heart and sought him with complete desire, so that he was present to them. And the LORD gave them rest on every side.	15 Todo Judá se alegró a causa del juramento, porque lo había prestado de todo corazón y había buscado sinceramente al Señor. Por eso el Señor se dejó encontrar por ellos y les dio paz por todas partes.
16 Maacah, the mother of King Asa, he deposed as queen mother because she had made an outrageous object for Asherah; Asa cut this down, smashed it, and burnt it in the Kidron Valley.	16 El rey Asá despojó incluso del rango de Reina Madre a su abuela Maacá, por haber dedicado un horrendo fetiche a la diosa Aserá. Asá eliminó ese fetiche, lo redujo a polvo y lo quemó en el torrente Cedrón.
17 Although the high places did not disappear from Israel, yet Asa's heart was undivided as long as he lived.	17 Sin embargo, no desaparecieron de Israel los lugares altos, aunque el corazón de Asá perteneció íntegramente al Señor durante toda su vida.
18 He brought into the house of God his father's votive offerings and his own: silver, gold, and various utensils.	18 El hizo llevar a la Casa del Señor las ofrendas consagradas por su padre y las que él mismo había consagrado: plata, oro y otros utensilios.
19 There was no war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.	19 Y no hubo guerra hasta el año treinta y cinco del reinado de Asá.
