NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	NOVA VULGATA
1 Naaman, the army commander of the king of Aram, was highly esteemed and respected by his master, for through him the LORD had brought victory to Aram. But valiant as he was, the man was a leper.	1 Naaman princeps militiae regis Syriae erat vir magnus apud dominum suum et honoratus; per illum enim dedit Dominus salutem Syriae. Erat autem vir fortis leprosus.
2 Now the Arameans had captured from the land of Israel in a raid a little girl, who became the servant of Naaman's wife.	2 Porro de Syria egressa fuerat turma et captivam duxerat de terra Israel puellam parvulam, quae erat in obsequio uxoris Naaman.
3 "If only my master would present himself to the prophet in Samaria," she said to her mistress, "he would cure him of his leprosy."	3 Quae ait ad dominam suam: “ Utinam esset dominus meus ad prophetam, qui est in Samaria! Profecto curaret eum a lepra, quam habet ”.
4 Naaman went and told his lord just what the slave girl from the land of Israel had said.	4 Ingressus est itaque Naaman ad dominum suum et nuntiavit ei dicens: “ Sic et sic locuta est puella de terra Israel ”.
5 "Go," said the king of Aram. "I will send along a letter to the king of Israel." So Naaman set out, taking along ten silver talents, six thousand gold pieces, and ten festal garments.	5 Dixitque ei rex Syriae: “ Vade, et mittam litteras ad regem Israel ”. Qui cum profectus esset et tulisset secum decem talenta argenti et sex milia siclorum auri et decem mutatoria vestimentorum,
6 To the king of Israel he brought the letter, which read: "With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you, that you may cure him of his leprosy."	6 detulit litteras ad regem Israel in haec verba: “ Cum acceperis epistulam hanc, scito quod miserim ad te Naaman servum meum, ut cures eum a lepra sua ”.
7 When he read the letter, the king of Israel tore his garments and exclaimed: "Am I a god with power over life and death, that this man should send someone to me to be cured of leprosy? Take note! You can see he is only looking for a quarrel with me!"	7 Cumque legisset rex Israel litteras, scidit vestimenta sua et ait: “ Numquid Deus sum, ut occidere possim et vivificare, quia iste mittit ad me, ut curem hominem a lepra sua? Animadvertite et videte quod occasiones quaerat adversum me ”.
8 When Elisha, the man of God, heard that the king of Israel had torn his garments, he sent word to the king: "Why have you torn your garments? Let him come to me and find out that there is a prophet in Israel."	8 Quod cum audisset Eliseus vir Dei, scidisse videlicet regem Israel vestimenta sua, misit ad eum dicens: “ Quare scidisti vestimenta tua? Veniat ad me et sciat esse prophetam in Israel ”.
9 Naaman came with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha's house.	9 Venit ergo Naaman cum equis et curribus et stetit ad ostium domus Elisei.
10 The prophet sent him the message: "Go and wash seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will heal, and you will be clean."	10 Misitque ad eum Eliseus nuntium dicens: “ Vade et lavare septies in Iordane; et recipiet sanitatem caro tua, atque mundaberis ”.
11 But Naaman went away angry, saying, "I thought that he would surely come out and stand there to invoke the LORD his God, and would move his hand over the spot, and thus cure the leprosy.	11 Iratus Naaman recedebat dicens: “ Putabam quod egrederetur ad me et stans invocaret nomen Domini Dei sui et tangeret manu sua locum leprae et curaret me.
12 Are not the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be cleansed?" With this, he turned about in anger and left.	12 Numquid non meliores sunt Abana et Pharphar, fluvii Damasci, omnibus aquis Israel, ut laver in eis et munder? ”. Cum ergo vertisset se et abiret indignans,
13 But his servants came up and reasoned with him. "My father," they said, "if the prophet had told you to do something extraordinary, would you not have done it? All the more now, since he said to you, 'Wash and be clean,' should you do as he said."	13 accesserunt ad eum servi sui et locuti sunt ei: “ Si rem grandem dixisset tibi propheta, certe faceres; quanto magis quia nunc dixit tibi: “Lavare et mundaberis!” ”.
14 So Naaman went down and plunged into the Jordan seven times at the word of the man of God. His flesh became again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.	14 Descendit et intinxit se in Iordane septies iuxta sermonem viri Dei, et restituta est caro eius sicut caro pueri parvuli, et mundatus est.
15 He returned with his whole retinue to the man of God. On his arrival he stood before him and said, "Now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel. Please accept a gift from your servant."	15 Reversusque ad virum Dei cum universo comitatu suo venit et stetit coram eo et ait: “ Vere scio quod non sit Deus in universa terra, nisi tantum in Israel! Obsecro itaque, ut accipias benedictionem a servo tuo ”.
16 "As the LORD lives whom I serve, I will not take it," Elisha replied; and despite Naaman's urging, he still refused.	16 At ille respondit: “ Vivit Dominus, ante quem sto, non accipiam ”. Cumque vim faceret, penitus non acquievit.
17 Naaman said: "If you will not accept, please let me, your servant, have two mule-loads of earth, for I will no longer offer holocaust or sacrifice to any other god except to the LORD.	17 Dixitque Naaman: “ Ut vis. Sed, obsecro, concedatur mihi servo tuo tantum terrae quantum onus duorum burdonum; non enim faciet ultra servus tuus holocaustum aut victimam diis alienis, nisi Domino.
18 But I trust the LORD will forgive your servant this: when my master enters the temple of Rimmon to worship there, then I, too, as his adjutant, must bow down in the temple of Rimmon. May the LORD forgive your servant this."	18 Hoc autem solum ignoscat Dominus servo tuo, quando ingreditur dominus meus templum Remmon, ut adoret ibi, et illo innitente super manum meam, si adoravero in templo Remmon, adorante eo in eodem loco, ut ignoscat mihi Dominus servo tuo pro hac re ”.
19 "Go in peace," Elisha said to him.	19 Qui dixit ei: “ Vade in pace ”. Abiit ergo ab eo viam modicam.
20 Naaman had gone some distance when Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, the man of God, thought to himself: "My master was too easy with this Aramean Naaman, not accepting what he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something out of him."	20 Dixitque Giezi puer viri Dei: “ Pepercit dominus meus Naaman Syro isti, ut non acciperet ab eo, quae attulit; vivit Dominus, curram post eum et accipiam ab eo aliquid ”.
21 So Gehazi hurried after Naaman. Aware that someone was running after him, Naaman alighted from his chariot to wait for him. "Is everything all right?" he asked.	21 Et secutus est Giezi post tergum Naaman. Quem cum vidisset ille currentem ad se, desiluit de curru in occursum eius et ait: “ Rectene sunt omnia? ”.
22 "Yes," Gehazi replied, "but my master sent me to say, 'Two young men have just come to me, guild prophets from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two festal garments.'"	22 Et ille ait: “ Recte. Dominus meus misit me dicens: “Modo venerunt ad me duo adulescentes de monte Ephraim ex filiis prophetarum. Da eis talentum argenti et vestes mutatorias duplices” ”.
23 "Please take two talents," Naaman said, and pressed them upon him. He tied up these silver talents in bags and gave them, with the two festal garments, to two of his servants, who carried them before Gehazi.	23 Dixitque Naaman: “ Melius est, ut accipias duo talenta ”. Et coegit eum ligavitque duo talenta argenti in duobus saccis et duplicia vestimenta et imposuit duobus pueris suis, qui et portaverunt coram eo.
24 When they reached the hill, Gehazi took what they had, carried it into the house, and sent the men on their way.	24 Cumque venisset ad collem, tulit de manu eorum et reposuit in domo; dimisitque viros et abierunt.
25 He went in and stood before Elisha his master, who asked him, "Where have you been, Gehazi?" He answered, "Your servant has not gone anywhere."	25 Ipse autem ingressus stetit coram domino suo. Et dixit Eliseus: “ Unde venis, Giezi? ”. Qui respondit: “ Non ivit servus tuus quoquam ”.
26 But Elisha said to him: "Was I not present in spirit when the man alighted from his chariot to wait for you? Is this a time to take money or to take garments, olive orchards or vineyards, sheep or cattle, male or female servants?	26 At ille: “ Nonne, ait, cor meum in praesenti erat, quando reversus est homo de curru suo in occursum tui? Estne tempus accipere argentum et accipere vestes et oliveta et vineta et oves et boves et servos et ancillas?
27 The leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and your descendants forever." And Gehazi left Elisha, a leper white as snow.	27 Sed et lepra Naaman adhaerebit tibi et semini tuo in sempiternum ”. Et egressus est ab eo leprosus quasi nix.
