1 The man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, "I have produced a man with the help of the LORD."	1 Adamo poi conobbe la sua moglie Eva, la quale concepì e partorì Caino, dicendo: « Ho ottenuto un uomo coll'aiuto di Dio ».
2 Next she bore his brother Abel. Abel became a keeper of flocks, and Cain a tiller of the soil.	2 Dipoi partorì il fratello di lui, Abele. E Abele fu pastore di pecore; Caino invece, agricoltore.
3 In the course of time Cain brought an offering to the LORD from the fruit of the soil,	3 Ed avvenne che dopo molto tempo Caino fece al Signore un'offerta dei frutti della terra,
4 while Abel, for his part, brought one of the best firstlings of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,	4 ed anche Abele offerse dei primogeniti del suo gregge e dei più grassi; ed il Signore guardò benignamente Abele ed i suoi doni;
5 but on Cain and his offering he did not. Cain greatly resented this and was crestfallen.	5 ma non volse lo sguardo a Caino e ai suoi doni. E Caino ne fu molto irritato, e il suo volto fu abbattuto.
6 So the LORD said to Cain: "Why are you so resentful and crestfallen?	6 E il Signore gli disse: «Perchè sei irritato? e perchè hai il viso abbattuto?
7 If you do well, you can hold up your head; but if not, sin is a demon lurking at the door: his urge is toward you, yet you can be his master."	7 Non è egli vero che se farai bene, avrai bene; e se farai male, il peccato sarà subito alla tua porta? Ma sotto di te sarà il desiderio di esso, e tu lo devi dominare ».
8 Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let us go out in the field." When they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.	8 Or Caino disse ad Abele suo fratello: «Andiamo fuori ». E quando furono nei campi, Caino saltò addosso al suo fratello Abele e lo uccise.
9 Then the LORD asked Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" He answered, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?"	9 E il Signore disse a Caino: «Dov'è Abele tuo fratello? » Ed egli rispose: « Io non lo so: son io forse il custode di mio fratello? »
10 The LORD then said: "What have you done! Listen: your brother's blood cries out to me from the soil!	10 E il Signore gli disse: « Che hai fatto? La voce del sangue di tuo fratello grida a me dalla terra.
11 Therefore you shall be banned from the soil that opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.	11 Or dunque tu sarai maledetto sopra la terra che ha aperto la sua bocca a ricevere dalla tua mano il sangue del tuo fratello.
12 If you till the soil, it shall no longer give you its produce. You shall become a restless wanderer on the earth."	12 Quando l'avrai lavorata, essa non ti darà i suoi frutti, e tu sarai ramingo e fuggiasco sopra la terra ».
13 Cain said to the LORD: "My punishment is too great to bear.	13 E Caino disse al Signore: « La mia iniquità è troppo grande perchè io possa meritar perdono!
14 Since you have now banished me from the soil, and I must avoid your presence and become a restless wanderer on the earth, anyone may kill me at sight."	14 Ecco tu oggi mi scacci da questa terra, ed io starò nascosto lungi dalla tua faccia, e sarò ramingo e fuggiasco sulla terra; ma chiunque mi troverà mi ucciderà ».
15 Not so!" the LORD said to him. "If anyone kills Cain, Cain shall be avenged sevenfold." So the LORD put a mark on Cain, lest anyone should kill him at sight.	15 E il Signore gli disse: « Non sarà cosi; perchè chi ucciderà Caino avrà castigo sette volte maggiore ». Pose quindi il Signore un segno su Caino, affinchè nessuno di quelli che lo incontrassero l'uccidesse.
16 Cain then left the LORD'S presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.	16 E Caino, fuggito dal cospetto del Signore, andò vagabondo per la terra, e abitò nel paese che è ad oriente di Eden.
17 Cain had relations with his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. Cain also became the founder of a city, which he named after his son Enoch.	17 E Caino conobbe sua moglie, la quale concepì e partorì Enoc. Egli poi fabbricò una città che chiamò Enoc, dal nome del suo figliolo,
18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad became the father of Mehujael; Mehujael became the father of Methusael, and Methusael became the father of Lamech.	18 Dipoi Enoc generò Irad, e Irad generò Maviael, e Maviael generò Matusael, e Matusael generò Lamec,
19 Lamech took two wives; the name of the first was Adah, and the name of the second Zillah.	19 il quale prese due mogli, delle quali una si chiamava Ada, e l'altra Sella.
20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, the ancestor of all who dwell in tents and keep cattle.	20 Ada partorì Iabel, che fu il padre di coloro che abitano sotto le tende e dei pastori.
21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the ancestor of all who play the lyre and the pipe.	21 Il nome del suo fratello fu lubal, il quale fu il padre dei sonatori di cetra e d'organo.
22 Zillah, on her part, gave birth to Tubalcain, the ancestor of all who forge instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.	22 Sella partorì anche Tubalcain, che lavorò col martello e fu artefice in ogni sorte di lavori di rame e di ferro; e la sorella di Tubalcain fu Noema.
23 Lamech said to his wives: "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; wives of Lamech, listen to my utterance: I have killed a man for wounding me, a boy for bruising me.	23 E Lamec disse alle sue mogli: « Ada e Sella, ascoltate la mia voce; o mogli di Lamec, ascoltate le mie parole: Ho ucciso un uomo con una mia ferita, e un giovinetto con un mio colpo.
24 If Cain is avenged sevenfold, then Lamech seventy-sevenfold."	24 Se Caino sarà vendicato sette volte, Lamec sarà settantasette volte ».
25 Adam again had relations with his wife, and she gave birth to a son whom she called Seth. "God has granted me more offspring in place of Abel," she said, "because Cain slew him."	25 E Adamo conobbe ancora la sua moglie, ed essa partorì un figliolo a cui pose nome Set, dicendo: « Dio m'ha dato un altro figlio in luogo di Abele ucciso da Caino ».
26 To Seth, in turn, a son was born, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to invoke the LORD by name.	26 Ed anche a Set nacque un figliolo, che egli chiamò Enos. Questi cominciò ad invocare il nome del Signore.
