NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
These are the descendants of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, to whom sons were born after the flood.1 These are the generations of the sons of Noe: Sem, Cham, and Japheth: and unto them sons were born after the flood.
The descendants of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Thubal, and Mosoch, and Thiras.
The descendants of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.3 And the sons of Gomer: Ascenez and Riphath and Thogorma.
The descendants of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim, and the Rodanim.4 And the sons of Javan: Elisa and Tharsis, Cetthim, and Dodanim.
These are the descendants of Japheth, and from them sprang the maritime nations, in their respective lands--each with its own language--by their clans within their nations.5 By these were divided the islands of the Gentiles in their lands, every one according to his tongue and their families in their nations.
The descendants of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.6 And the sons of Cham: Chus, and Mesram, and Phuth, and Chanaan.
The descendants of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.7 And the sons of Chus: Saba and Hevila, and Sabatha, and Regma, and Sabatacha. The sons of Regma: Saba and Dadan.
Cush became the father of Nimrod, who was the first potentate on earth.8 Now Chus begot Nemrod: he began to be mighty on earth.
He was a mighty hunter by the grace of the LORD; hence the saying, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter by the grace of the LORD."9 And he was a stout hunter before the Lord. Hence came a proverb: Even as Nemrod the stout hunter before the Lord.
The chief cities of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, and Accad, all of them in the land of Shinar.10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Arach, and Achad, and Chalanne in the land of Sennaar.
From that land he went forth to Asshur, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, and Calah,11 Out of that land came forth Assur, and built Ninive, and the streets of the city, and Chale.
as well as Resen, between Nineveh and Calah, the latter being the principal city.12 Resen also between Ninive and Chale: this is the great city.
Mizraim became the father of the Ludim, the Anamim, the Lehabim, the Naphtuhim,13 And Mesraim begot Ludim, and Anamim, and Laabim, Nepthuim,
the Pathrusim, the Casluhim, and the Caphtorim from whom the Philistines sprang.14 And Phetrusim, and Chasluim; of whom came forth the Philistines, and the Capthorim.
Canaan became the father of Sidon, his first-born, and of Heth;15 And Chanaan begot Sidon, his firstborn, the Hethite,
also of the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorrhite, and the Gergesite,
the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,17 The Hevite and the Aracite: the Sinite,
the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward, the clans of the Canaanites spread out,18 And the Aradian, the Samarite, and the Hamathite: and afterwards the families of the Chanaanites were spread abroad.
so that the Canaanite borders extended from Sidon all the way to Gerar, near Gaza, and all the way to Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, near Lasha.19 And the limits of Chanaan were from Sidon as one comes to Gerara even to Gaza, until thou enter Sodom and Gomorrha, and Adama, and Seboim even to Lesa.
These are the descendants of Ham, according to their clans and languages, by their lands and nations.20 These are the children of Cham in their kindreds, and tongues, and generations, and lands, and nations.
To Shem also, Japheth's oldest brother and the ancestor of all the children of Eber, sons were born.21 Of Sem also, the father of all children of Heber, the elder brother of Japheth, sons were born.
The descendants of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.22 The sons of Sem: Elam and Assur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.
The descendants of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.23 The sons of Aram: Us and Hull, and Gether: and Mess.
Arpachshad became the father of Shelah, and Shelah became the father of Eber.24 But Arphaxad begot Sale, of whom was born Heber.
To Eber two sons were born: the name of the first was Peleg, for in his time the world was divided; and the name of his brother was Joktan.25 And to Heber were born two sons: the name of the one was Phaleg, because in his days the earth was divided: and his brother's name Jectan.
Joktan became the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,26 Which Jectan begot Elmodad, and Saleph, and Asarmoth, Jare,
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,27 And Anduram, and Uzal, and Decla,
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,28 And Ebal, and Abimael, Saba,
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were descendants of Joktan.29 And Ophir, and Hevila, and Jobab.
Their settlements extended all the way to Sephar, the eastern hill country.30 And their dwelling was from Messa as we go on as far as Sephar, a mountain in the east.
These are the descendants of Shem, according to their clans and languages by their lands and nations.31 These are the children of Sem according to their kindreds and tongues, and countries in their nations.
These are the groupings of Noah's sons, according to their origins and by their nations. From these the other nations of the earth branched out after the flood.32 These are the families of Noe, according to their peoples and nations. By these were the nations divided on the earth after the flood.
