LXXNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
σοφια ταπεινου ανυψωσει κεφαλην αυτου και εν μεσω μεγιστανων καθισει αυτον1 The poor man's wisdom lifts his head high and sets him among princes.
μη αινεσης ανδρα εν καλλει αυτου και μη βδελυξη ανθρωπον εν ορασει αυτου2 Praise not a man for his looks; despise not a man for his appearance.
μικρα εν πετεινοις μελισσα και αρχη γλυκασματων ο καρπος αυτης3 Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.
εν περιβολη ιματιων μη καυχηση και εν ημερα δοξης μη επαιρου οτι θαυμαστα τα εργα κυριου και κρυπτα τα εργα αυτου ανθρωποις4 Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds.
πολλοι τυραννοι εκαθισαν επι εδαφους ο δε ανυπονοητος εφορεσεν διαδημα5 The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown.
πολλοι δυνασται ητιμασθησαν σφοδρα και ενδοξοι παρεδοθησαν εις χειρας ετερων6 The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.
πριν εξετασης μη μεμψη νοησον πρωτον και τοτε επιτιμα7 Before investigating, find no fault; examine first, then criticize.
πριν η ακουσαι μη αποκρινου και εν μεσω λογων μη παρεμβαλλου8 Before hearing, answer not, and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.
περι πραγματος ου ουκ εστιν σοι χρεια μη εριζε και εν κρισει αμαρτωλων μη συνεδρευε9 Dispute not about what is not your concern; in the strife of the arrogant take no part.
τεκνον μη περι πολλα εστωσαν αι πραξεις σου εαν πληθυνης ουκ αθωωθηση και εαν διωκης ου μη καταλαβης και ου μη εκφυγης διαδρας10 My son, why increase your cares, since he who is avid for wealth will not be blameless? Even if you run after it, you will never overtake it; however you seek it, you will not find it.
εστιν κοπιων και πονων και σπευδων και τοσω μαλλον υστερειται11 One may toil and struggle and drive, and fall short all the more.
εστιν νωθρος προσδεομενος αντιλημψεως υστερων ισχυι και πτωχεια περισσευει και οι οφθαλμοι κυριου επεβλεψαν αυτω εις αγαθα και ανωρθωσεν αυτον εκ ταπεινωσεως αυτου12 Another goes his way a weakling and a failure, with little strength and great misery-- Yet the eyes of the LORD look favorably upon him; he raises him free of the vile dust,
και ανυψωσεν κεφαλην αυτου και απεθαυμασαν επ' αυτω πολλοι13 Lifts up his head and exalts him to the amazement of the many.
αγαθα και κακα ζωη και θανατος πτωχεια και πλουτος παρα κυριου εστιν14 Good and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from the LORD.
-15 Wisdom and understanding and knowledge of affairs, love and virtuous paths are from the LORD.
-16 Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth, and evil grows old with evildoers.
δοσις κυριου παραμενει ευσεβεσιν και η ευδοκια αυτου εις τον αιωνα ευοδωθησεται17 The LORD'S gift remains with the just; his favor brings continued success.
εστιν πλουτων απο προσοχης και σφιγγιας αυτου και αυτη η μερις του μισθου αυτου18 A man may become rich through a miser's life, and this is his allotted reward:
εν τω ειπειν αυτον ευρον αναπαυσιν και νυν φαγομαι εκ των αγαθων μου και ουκ οιδεν τις καιρος παρελευσεται και καταλειψει αυτα ετεροις και αποθανειται19 When he says: "I have found rest, now I will feast on my possessions," He does not know how long it will be till he dies and leaves them to others.
στηθι εν διαθηκη σου και ομιλει εν αυτη και εν τω εργω σου παλαιωθητι20 My son, hold fast to your duty, busy yourself with it, grow old while doing your task.
μη θαυμαζε εν εργοις αμαρτωλου πιστευε δε κυριω και εμμενε τω πονω σου οτι κουφον εν οφθαλμοις κυριου δια ταχους εξαπινα πλουτισαι πενητα21 Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich.
ευλογια κυριου εν μισθω ευσεβους και εν ωρα ταχινη αναθαλλει ευλογιαν αυτου22 God's blessing is the lot of the just man, and in due time his hopes bear fruit.
μη ειπης τις εστιν μου χρεια και τινα απο του νυν εσται μου τα αγαθα23 Say not: "What do I need? What further pleasure can be mine?"
μη ειπης αυταρκη μοι εστιν και τι απο του νυν κακωθησομαι24 Say not: "I am independent. What harm can come to me now?"
εν ημερα αγαθων αμνησια κακων και εν ημερα κακων ου μνησθησεται αγαθων25 The day of prosperity makes one forget adversity; the day of adversity makes one forget prosperity.
οτι κουφον εναντι κυριου εν ημερα τελευτης αποδουναι ανθρωπω κατα τας οδους αυτου26 For it is easy with the LORD on the day of death to repay man according to his deeds.
κακωσις ωρας επιλησμονην ποιει τρυφης και εν συντελεια ανθρωπου αποκαλυψις εργων αυτου27 A moment's affliction brings forgetfulness of past delights; when a man dies, his life is revealed.
προ τελευτης μη μακαριζε μηδενα και εν τεκνοις αυτου γνωσθησεται ανηρ28 Call no man happy before his death, for by how he ends, a man is known.
μη παντα ανθρωπον εισαγε εις τον οικον σου πολλα γαρ τα ενεδρα του δολιου29 Bring not every man into your house, for many are the snares of the crafty one;
περδιξ θηρευτης εν καρταλλω ουτως καρδια υπερηφανου και ως ο κατασκοπος επιβλεπει πτωσιν30 Though he seem like a bird confined in a cage, yet like a spy he will pick out the weak spots.
τα γαρ αγαθα εις κακα μεταστρεφων ενεδρευει και εν τοις αιρετοις επιθησει μωμον31 The talebearer turns good into evil; with a spark he sets many coals afire.
απο σπινθηρος πυρος πληθυνεται ανθρακια και ανθρωπος αμαρτωλος εις αιμα ενεδρευει32 The evil man lies in wait for blood, and plots against your choicest possessions.
προσεχε απο κακουργου πονηρα γαρ τεκταινει μηποτε μωμον εις τον αιωνα δω σοι33 Avoid a wicked man, for he breeds only evil, lest you incur a lasting stain.
ενοικισον αλλοτριον και διαστρεψει σε εν ταραχαις και απαλλοτριωσει σε των ιδιων σου34 Lodge a stranger with you, and he will subvert your course, and make a stranger of you to your own household.
