ηλθον δε οι δυο αγγελοι εις σοδομα εσπερας λωτ δε εκαθητο παρα την πυλην σοδομων ιδων δε λωτ εξανεστη εις συναντησιν αυτοις και προσεκυνησεν τω προσωπω επι την γην1 And the two Angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting at the gate of the city. And when he had seen them, he rose up and went to meet them. And he reverenced prone on the ground.
και ειπεν ιδου κυριοι εκκλινατε εις τον οικον του παιδος υμων και καταλυσατε και νιψασθε τους ποδας υμων και ορθρισαντες απελευσεσθε εις την οδον υμων ειπαν δε ουχι αλλ' εν τη πλατεια καταλυσομεν2 And he said: “I beg you, my lords, turn aside to the house of your servant, and lodge there. Wash your feet, and in the morning you will advance on your way.” And they said, “Not at all. But we will lodge in the street.”
και κατεβιαζετο αυτους και εξεκλιναν προς αυτον και εισηλθον εις την οικιαν αυτου και εποιησεν αυτοις ποτον και αζυμους επεψεν αυτοις και εφαγον3 He pressed them very much to turn aside to him. And when they had entered his house, he made a feast for them, and he cooked unleavened bread, and they ate.
προ του κοιμηθηναι και οι ανδρες της πολεως οι σοδομιται περιεκυκλωσαν την οικιαν απο νεανισκου εως πρεσβυτερου απας ο λαος αμα4 But before they went to bed, the men of the city surrounded the house, from boys to old men, all the people together.
και εξεκαλουντο τον λωτ και ελεγον προς αυτον που εισιν οι ανδρες οι εισελθοντες προς σε την νυκτα εξαγαγε αυτους προς ημας ινα συγγενωμεθα αυτοις5 And they called out to Lot, and they said to him: “Where are the men who entered to you in the night? Bring them out here, so that we may know them.”
εξηλθεν δε λωτ προς αυτους προς το προθυρον την δε θυραν προσεωξεν οπισω αυτου6 Lot went out to them, and blocking the door behind him, he said:
ειπεν δε προς αυτους μηδαμως αδελφοι μη πονηρευσησθε7 “Do not, I ask you, my brothers, do not be willing to commit this evil.
εισιν δε μοι δυο θυγατερες αι ουκ εγνωσαν ανδρα εξαξω αυτας προς υμας και χρησασθε αυταις καθα αν αρεσκη υμιν μονον εις τους ανδρας τουτους μη ποιησητε μηδεν αδικον ου εινεκεν εισηλθον υπο την σκεπην των δοκων μου8 I have two daughters who as yet have not known man. I will bring them out to you; abuse them as it pleases you, provided that you do no evil to these men, because they have entered under the shadow of my roof.”
ειπαν δε αποστα εκει εις ηλθες παροικειν μη και κρισιν κρινειν νυν ουν σε κακωσομεν μαλλον η εκεινους και παρεβιαζοντο τον ανδρα τον λωτ σφοδρα και ηγγισαν συντριψαι την θυραν9 But they said, “Move away from there.” And again: “You have entered,” they said, “as a stranger; should you then judge? Therefore, we will afflict you yourself more than them.” And they acted very violently against Lot. And they were now at the point of breaking open the doors.
εκτειναντες δε οι ανδρες τας χειρας εισεσπασαντο τον λωτ προς εαυτους εις τον οικον και την θυραν του οικου απεκλεισαν10 And behold, the men put out their hand, and they pulled Lot in to them, and they closed the door.
τους δε ανδρας τους οντας επι της θυρας του οικου επαταξαν αορασια απο μικρου εως μεγαλου και παρελυθησαν ζητουντες την θυραν11 And they struck those who were outside with blindness, from the least to the greatest, so that they were not able to find the door.
ειπαν δε οι ανδρες προς λωτ εστιν τις σοι ωδε γαμβροι η υιοι η θυγατερες η ει τις σοι αλλος εστιν εν τη πολει εξαγαγε εκ του τοπου τουτου12 Then they said to Lot: “Do you have here anyone of yours? All who are yours, sons-in-law, or sons, or daughters, bring them out of this city.
οτι απολλυμεν ημεις τον τοπον τουτον οτι υψωθη η κραυγη αυτων εναντιον κυριου και απεστειλεν ημας κυριος εκτριψαι αυτην13 For we will eliminate this place, because the outcry among them has increased before the Lord, who sent us to destroy them.”
εξηλθεν δε λωτ και ελαλησεν προς τους γαμβρους αυτου τους ειληφοτας τας θυγατερας αυτου και ειπεν αναστητε και εξελθατε εκ του τοπου τουτου οτι εκτριβει κυριος την πολιν εδοξεν δε γελοιαζειν εναντιον των γαμβρων αυτου14 And so Lot, going out, spoke to his sons-in-law, who were going to receive his daughters, and he said: “Rise up. Depart from this place. For the Lord will destroy this city.” And it seemed to them that he was speaking playfully.
ηνικα δε ορθρος εγινετο επεσπουδαζον οι αγγελοι τον λωτ λεγοντες αναστας λαβε την γυναικα σου και τας δυο θυγατερας σου ας εχεις και εξελθε ινα μη συναπολη ταις ανομιαις της πολεως15 And when it was morning, the Angels compelled him, saying, “Arise, take your wife, and the two daughters that you have, lest you also should perish amid the wickedness of the city.”
και εταραχθησαν και εκρατησαν οι αγγελοι της χειρος αυτου και της χειρος της γυναικος αυτου και των χειρων των δυο θυγατερων αυτου εν τω φεισασθαι κυριον αυτου16 And, since he ignored them, they took his hand, and the hand of his wife, as well as that of his two daughters, because the Lord was sparing him.
και εγενετο ηνικα εξηγαγον αυτους εξω και ειπαν σωζων σωζε την σεαυτου ψυχην μη περιβλεψης εις τα οπισω μηδε στης εν παση τη περιχωρω εις το ορος σωζου μηποτε συμπαραλημφθης17 And they brought him out, and placed him beyond the city. And there they spoke to him, saying: “Save your life. Do not look not back. Neither should you stay in the entire surrounding region. But save yourself in the mountain, lest you also should perish.”
ειπεν δε λωτ προς αυτους δεομαι κυριε18 And Lot said to them: “I beg you, my lord,
επειδη ευρεν ο παις σου ελεος εναντιον σου και εμεγαλυνας την δικαιοσυνην σου ο ποιεις επ' εμε του ζην την ψυχην μου εγω δε ου δυνησομαι διασωθηναι εις το ορος μη καταλαβη με τα κακα και αποθανω19 though your servant has found grace before you, and you have magnified your mercy, which you have shown to me in saving my life, I cannot be saved on the mountain, lest perhaps some misfortune take hold of me and I die.
ιδου η πολις αυτη εγγυς του καταφυγειν με εκει η εστιν μικρα εκει σωθησομαι ου μικρα εστιν και ζησεται η ψυχη μου20 There is a certain city nearby, to which I can flee; it is a little one, and I will be saved in it. Is it not a modest one, and will not my soul live?”
και ειπεν αυτω ιδου εθαυμασα σου το προσωπον και επι τω ρηματι τουτω του μη καταστρεψαι την πολιν περι ης ελαλησας21 And he said to him: “Behold, even now, I have heard your petitions about this, not to overturn the city on behalf of which you have spoken.
σπευσον ουν του σωθηναι εκει ου γαρ δυνησομαι ποιησαι πραγμα εως του σε εισελθειν εκει δια τουτο εκαλεσεν το ονομα της πολεως εκεινης σηγωρ22 Hurry and be saved there. For I cannot do anything until you enter there.” For this reason, the name of that city is called Zoar.
ο ηλιος εξηλθεν επι την γην και λωτ εισηλθεν εις σηγωρ23 The sun had risen over the land, and Lot had entered into Zoar.
και κυριος εβρεξεν επι σοδομα και γομορρα θειον και πυρ παρα κυριου εκ του ουρανου24 Therefore, the Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah sulphur and fire, from the Lord, out of heaven.
και κατεστρεψεν τας πολεις ταυτας και πασαν την περιοικον και παντας τους κατοικουντας εν ταις πολεσιν και παντα τα ανατελλοντα εκ της γης25 And he overturned these cities, and all the surrounding region: all the inhabitants of the cities, and everything that springs from the land.
και επεβλεψεν η γυνη αυτου εις τα οπισω και εγενετο στηλη αλος26 And his wife, looking behind herself, was turned into a statue of salt.
ωρθρισεν δε αβρααμ το πρωι εις τον τοπον ου ειστηκει εναντιον κυριου27 Then Abraham, rising up in the morning, in the place where he had stood before with the Lord,
και επεβλεψεν επι προσωπον σοδομων και γομορρας και επι προσωπον της γης της περιχωρου και ειδεν και ιδου ανεβαινεν φλοξ της γης ωσει ατμις καμινου28 looked out toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and the entire land of that region. And he saw embers rising up from the land like smoke from a furnace.
και εγενετο εν τω εκτριψαι κυριον πασας τας πολεις της περιοικου εμνησθη ο θεος του αβρααμ και εξαπεστειλεν τον λωτ εκ μεσου της καταστροφης εν τω καταστρεψαι κυριον τας πολεις εν αις κατωκει εν αυταις λωτ29 For when God overthrew the cities of that region, remembering Abraham, he freed Lot from the overthrow of the cities, in which he had dwelt.
ανεβη δε λωτ εκ σηγωρ και εκαθητο εν τω ορει και αι δυο θυγατερες αυτου μετ' αυτου εφοβηθη γαρ κατοικησαι εν σηγωρ και ωκησεν εν τω σπηλαιω αυτος και αι δυο θυγατερες αυτου μετ' αυτου30 And Lot ascended from Zoar, and he stayed on the mountain, and likewise his two daughters with him, (for he was afraid to stay in Zoar) and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters with him.
ειπεν δε η πρεσβυτερα προς την νεωτεραν ο πατηρ ημων πρεσβυτερος και ουδεις εστιν επι της γης ος εισελευσεται προς ημας ως καθηκει παση τη γη31 And the elder said to the younger: “Our father is old, and no man remains in the land who can enter to us according to the custom of the whole world.
δευρο και ποτισωμεν τον πατερα ημων οινον και κοιμηθωμεν μετ' αυτου και εξαναστησωμεν εκ του πατρος ημων σπερμα32 Come, let us inebriate him with wine, and let us sleep with him, so that we may be able to preserve offspring from our father.”
εποτισαν δε τον πατερα αυτων οινον εν τη νυκτι ταυτη και εισελθουσα η πρεσβυτερα εκοιμηθη μετα του πατρος αυτης την νυκτα εκεινην και ουκ ηδει εν τω κοιμηθηναι αυτην και αναστηναι33 And so they gave their father wine to drink that night. And the elder went in, and she slept with her father. But he did not perceive it, neither when his daughter lay down, nor when she rose up.
εγενετο δε τη επαυριον και ειπεν η πρεσβυτερα προς την νεωτεραν ιδου εκοιμηθην εχθες μετα του πατρος ημων ποτισωμεν αυτον οινον και την νυκτα ταυτην και εισελθουσα κοιμηθητι μετ' αυτου και εξαναστησωμεν εκ του πατρος ημων σπερμα34 Likewise, the next day, the elder said to the younger: “Behold, yesterday I slept with my father, let us give him wine to drink yet again this night, and you will sleep with him, so that we may save offspring from our father.”
εποτισαν δε και εν τη νυκτι εκεινη τον πατερα αυτων οινον και εισελθουσα η νεωτερα εκοιμηθη μετα του πατρος αυτης και ουκ ηδει εν τω κοιμηθηναι αυτην και αναστηναι35 And then they gave their father wine to drink that night also, and the younger daughter went in, and slept with him. And not even then did he perceive when she lay down, or when she rose up.
και συνελαβον αι δυο θυγατερες λωτ εκ του πατρος αυτων36 Therefore, the two daughters of Lot conceived by their father.
και ετεκεν η πρεσβυτερα υιον και εκαλεσεν το ονομα αυτου μωαβ λεγουσα εκ του πατρος μου ουτος πατηρ μωαβιτων εως της σημερον ημερας37 And the elder gave birth to a son, and she called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites, even to the present day.
ετεκεν δε και η νεωτερα υιον και εκαλεσεν το ονομα αυτου αμμαν υιος του γενους μου ουτος πατηρ αμμανιτων εως της σημερον ημερας38 Likewise, the younger gave birth to a son, and she called his name Ammon, that is, ‘the son of my people.’ He is the father of the Ammonites, even today.
