Joshua 14

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.	1 Voici ce que reçurent en héritage les Israélites au pays de Canaan, ce que leur donnèrent en héritagele prêtre Eléazar et Josué, fils de Nûn, avec les chefs de famille des tribus d'Israël.
2 By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.	2 C'est par le sort qu'ils reçurent leur héritage, comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné par l'intermédiaire deMoïse pour les neuf tribus et demie.
3 For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.	3 Car Moïse avait donné leur héritage aux deux tribus et demie de l'autre côté du Jourdain, mais auxLévites, il n'avait pas donné d'héritage parmi elles.
4 For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.	4 Car les fils de Joseph formaient deux tribus, Manassé et Ephraïm, et l'on ne donna dans le paysaucune part aux Lévites, si ce n'est des villes pour y habiter, avec les pâturages attenants pour leurs bestiaux etleurs biens.
5 As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.	5 Les Israélites firent comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné à Moïse, et ils partagèrent le pays.
6 Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea.	6 Des fils de Juda vinrent trouver Josué à Gilgal, et Caleb, fils de Yephunné, le Qenizzite, lui dit: "Tusais bien ce que Yahvé a dit à Moïse, l'homme de Dieu, à mon sujet et au tien à Cadès-Barné.
7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.	7 J'avais 40 ans lorsque Moïse, serviteur de Yahvé, m'envoya de Cadès-Barné pour espionner ce pays,et je lui fis un rapport sincère.
8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.	8 Mais les frères qui étaient montés avec moi découragèrent le peuple, tandis que moi, j'obéissaisparfaitement à Yahvé mon Dieu.
9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.	9 Ce jour-là, Moïse fit ce serment: Sois-en sûr, le pays qu'a foulé ton pied t'appartiendra en héritage, àtoi et à tes descendants pour toujours, parce que tu as obéi parfaitement à Yahvé mon Dieu.
10 And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.	10 Depuis lors, Yahvé m'a gardé en vie selon sa promesse. Il y a 45 ans que Yahvé a fait cettedéclaration à Moïse, Israël allait alors par le désert, et voici qu'à présent je compte 85 ans.
11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.	11 Je suis aussi robuste aujourd'hui que le jour où Moïse me confia cette mission, ma forced'aujourd'hui vaut ma force d'alors pour combattre et pour aller et venir.
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.	12 Il est temps de me donner cette montagne dont Yahvé m'a parlé ce jour-là. Tu as appris en ce jour-là qu'il y avait là des Anaqim et de grandes villes fortifiées; mais si Yahvé est avec moi, je les déposséderaicomme Yahvé l'a dit."
13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.	13 Josué bénit Caleb, fils de Yephunné, et lui donna Hébron pour héritage.
14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.	14 Aussi Hébron est-il resté jusqu'à ce jour l'héritage de Caleb, fils de Yephunné le Qenizzite, parcequ'il avait suivi sans défaillance Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël.
15 And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.	15 Autrefois le nom d'Hébron était Qiryat-Arba. Arba était l'homme le plus grand des Anaqim. Et lepays se reposa de la guerre.
