1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdman of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.	1 Parole d’Amos, l’un des intendants des troupeaux de Tékoa. Voici ce qu’il a vu au sujet d’Israël au temps d’Osias, roi de Juda, et de Jéroboam, fils de Joas, roi d’Israël. C’était deux ans avant le tremblement de terre, et voici ce qu’il a dit:
2 And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.	2 Yahvé rugit de Sion, de Jérusalem il fait entendre sa voix. Les pâturages des bergers sont en deuil et le sommet du Carmel se dessèche.
3 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:	3 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je l’ai décidé et je ne reviendrai pas en arrière. Damas a dépassé la limite du crime: ils ont broyé Galaad avec des traîneaux de fer.
4 But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.	4 C’est pourquoi j’enverrai le feu dans la maison de Hazaël et il dévorera les palais de Ben-Hadad.
5 I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.	5 Je briserai la forteresse de Damas; je supprimerai l’habitant de Bikeat-Aven, le roi de Beth-Éden, et le peuple d’Aram sera déporté à Kir; c’est Yahvé qui le dit.
6 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:	6 Je l’ai décidé et je ne reviendrai pas en arrière. Gaza a dépassé la limite du crime: ils ont déporté des populations entières pour les livrer à Édom.
7 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:	7 C’est pourquoi j’enverrai le feu dans les remparts de Gaza et il dévorera ses palais.
8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.	8 Je supprimerai l’habitant d’Ashdod et le roi d’Ashkélon, je lèverai ma main contre Ékron, et ce qui reste des Philistins périra; c’est le Seigneur Yahvé qui le dit.
9 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:	9 Je l’ai décidé et je ne reviendrai pas en arrière. Tyr a dépassé les limites du crime: ils ont livré à Édom des populations entières de captifs, ils ont oublié l’alliance entre frères.
10 But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.	10 C’est pourquoi j’enverrai le feu dans les remparts de Tyr et il dévorera ses palais.
11 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:	11 Je l’ai décidé et je ne reviendrai pas en arrière. Édom a dépassé la limite du crime: il a poursuivi son frère avec l’épée, il n’a eu aucune pitié, sa colère ne s’apaisait pas et sa fureur ne cessait pas.
12 But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.	12 C’est pourquoi j’enverrai le feu dans Téman et il dévorera les palais de Bosra.
13 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:	13 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je l’ai décidé et je ne reviendrai pas en arrière. Les Ammonites ont dépassé les limites du crime: ils ont éventré les femmes enceintes de Galaad quand ils ont pris leur territoire;
14 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:	14 c’est pourquoi je mettrai le feu dans les remparts de Rabba, et il dévorera ses palais au milieu des cris d’un jour de bataille, au milieu de l’ouragan, comme en un jour de tempête.
15 And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.	15 Le roi partira en captivité et ses chefs avec lui; c’est Yahvé qui le dit.
