KING JAMES BIBLEBIBLES DES PEUPLES
In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.1 En la troisième année du règne de Balthazar, moi Daniel, j’ai reçu une nouvelle vision à la suite des précédentes.
And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.2 Durant cette vision j’ai vu la citadelle de Suze, dans la province d’Élam; dans cette vision je me trouvais près de la rivière d’Oulaï, et de là je regardais.
Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.3 Comme je levais les yeux, je vis un bélier avec deux cornes qui se tenait devant le torrent. Les deux cornes étaient grandes, mais l’une dépassait l’autre, et la plus grande fut celle qui se dressa la dernière.
I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.4 Je vis le bélier donner des coups de corne vers l’ouest, vers le nord et vers le sud; aucune bête ne pouvait lui résister, rien ne pouvait lui échapper. Il faisait ce qui lui plaisait et devint puissant.
And as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.5 Comme je cherchais à comprendre, j’aperçus un bouc qui venait de l’occident après avoir parcouru toute la terre, mais sans toucher le sol; ce bouc avait une corne énorme entre les yeux.
And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had there seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power.6 Il s’approcha du bélier à deux cornes que j’avais vu sur le rivage et s’élança vers lui de toutes ses forces.
And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.7 Je le vis se jeter sur le bélier: il le frappa furieusement et lui brisa les deux cornes sans que le bélier puisse lui résister. Il le jeta par terre, le piétina et nul ne put délivrer le bélier de sa main.
Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.8 Le bouc devint très puissant mais, au comble de sa puissance, la grande corne se brisa et quatre cornes poussèrent à sa place, tournées vers les quatre vents du ciel.
And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.9 De l’une d’elles sortit une corne plus petite, mais qui s’étendit beaucoup en direction du sud, de l’est, et vers la terre de Beauté.
And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.10 Elle grandit au point d’atteindre l’armée des cieux, elle en fit tomber à terre une partie ainsi que des étoiles qu’elle piétina.
Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.11 Elle se dressa même contre le chef de cette armée: elle lui enleva le sacrifice perpétuel et renversa les fondations de son sanctuaire
And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.12 en même temps que son armée. Au lieu même où l’on présentait le sacrifice, elle dressa l’Abomination, piétina la vérité et réussit dans toutes ses entreprises.
Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?13 J’entendis alors un saint qui parlait et un autre saint lui posa cette question: “Jusqu’à quand ce qu’annonce cette vision: le sacrifice perpétuel enlevé, l’Abomination dressée et le lieu saint et l’armée piétinés?”
And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.14 Il lui répondit: “Jusqu’à 2 300 soirs et matins; alors le lieu saint sera rétabli selon le droit.”
And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.15 Or pendant que moi, Daniel, je regardais la vision et cherchais à comprendre, je crus voir un homme devant moi
And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.16 et j’entendis une voix sur les bords de l’Oulaï qui lui criait: “Gabriel, fais-lui comprendre la vision.”
So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.17 Il se dirigea donc vers l’endroit où je me tenais, mais à son approche je fus effrayé et je tombai la face contre terre. Il me dit: “Fils d’homme, comprends que cette vision concerne le temps de la fin.”
Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.18 Pendant que j’étais prosterné à terre et qu’il me parlait, je perdis connaissance; il me toucha et me releva.
And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.19 Puis il me dit: “Maintenant je vais te faire connaître ce qui arrivera à la fin du temps de la colère, car la fin est décidée.
The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia.20 Le bélier que tu as vu avec ses deux cornes, ce sont les rois des Mèdes et des Perses.
And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.21 Le bouc velu est le roi de Yavan, la grande corne entre ses yeux est leur premier roi.
Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power.22 La corne brisée et les quatre cornes qui ont poussé à sa place, ce sont quatre royaumes sortis de cette nation, mais qui n’atteindront pas sa puissance.
And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.23 Au terme de leur règne, lorsque les péchés seront arrivés à leur comble, on verra se lever un roi au visage fier qui aimera les difficultés.
And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.24 Sa puissance ne cessera de grandir; il entreprendra des choses incroyables et il réussira dans ses entreprises. Il détruira les puissants et le peuple des saints.
And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.25 Grâce à son astuce ses stratagèmes réussiront; il se gonflera d’orgueil et détruira bien des gens par surprise. Il se dressera contre le Roi des rois, mais sans qu’intervienne la main de l’homme, il sera brisé.
And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.26 La vision des soirs et des matins, celle que tu viens d’avoir, est absolument sûre, mais garde-la pour toi car elle concerne un avenir lointain.”
And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.27 Moi, Daniel, je m’évanouis; je fus malade plusieurs jours, puis je me levai pour m’occuper des affaires du roi. Mais je restais bouleversé par cette vision que je ne comprenais pas.
