Proverbs 2

1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;	1 Reçois mes paroles, garde mon enseignement;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;	2 que ton oreille, mon fils, s’ouvre à la sagesse, que ton cœur se plie à la vérité;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;	3 fais appel à l’intelligence et laisse-toi guider par la raison;
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;	4 cherche la sagesse comme l’argent, comme un trésor caché:
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.	5 alors tu pénétreras dans la crainte de Yahvé et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.	6 Car c’est Yahvé qui donne la sagesse, de sa bouche sortent le savoir et la vérité.
7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.	7 Il vient en aide aux hommes droits, il est un bouclier pour ceux qui restent honnêtes.
8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.	8 Il reste en alerte tout au long du droit chemin pour y protéger la marche de ses fidèles.
9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.	9 Alors tu comprendras ce qui est juste, droit et honnête, tout ce qui mène au bonheur.
10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;	10 La sagesse alors entrera dans ton cœur et le savoir sera ta jouissance.
11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:	11 La prudence veillera sur toi, la réflexion sera ta sauvegarde;
12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;	12 elles te tiendront à l’écart des chemins du mal et des hommes aux paroles trompeuses,
13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;	13 qui délaissent les droits sentiers et s’en vont par les routes obscures;
14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;	14 qui trouvent leur joie à faire le mal et prennent plaisir aux abominations,
15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:	15 qui vont par des chemins tortueux, par des sentiers qui se perdent.
16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;	16 La sagesse te gardera de la femme d’un autre, de la belle inconnue aux douces paroles,
17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.	17 qui abandonne le partenaire de sa jeunesse et oublie les alliances de son Dieu.
18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.	18 De sa maison on déboule vers la mort, ses sentiers mènent droit à la tombe.
19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.	19 Ceux qui y vont n’en reviendront pas, ils ne retrouveront pas le chemin de la vie.
20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.	20 Mais toi tu marcheras sur le chemin des gens honnêtes, tu suivras les sentiers des justes.
21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.	21 Car les hommes droits habiteront le pays, les gens intègres y prolongeront leurs jours.
22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.	22 Les méchants au contraire seront chassés du pays, les traîtres en seront expulsés.
