1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;	1 Quand les deux Anges arrivèrent à Sodome sur le soir, Lot était assis à la porte de la ville. Dès queLot les vit, il se leva à leur rencontre et se prosterna, face contre terre.
2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.	2 Il dit: "Je vous en prie, Messeigneurs! Veuillez descendre chez votre serviteur pour y passer la nuitet vous laver les pieds, puis au matin vous reprendrez votre route", mais ils répondirent: "Non, nous passerons lanuit sur la place."
3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.	3 Il les pressa tant qu'ils allèrent chez lui et entrèrent dans sa maison. Il leur prépara un repas, fitcuire des pains sans levain, et ils mangèrent.
4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:	4 Ils n'étaient pas encore couchés que la maison fut cernée parles hommes de la ville, les gens deSodome, depuis les jeunes jusqu'aux vieux, tout le peuple sans exception.
5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.	5 Ils appelèrent Lot et lui dirent: "Où sont les hommes qui sont venus chez toi cette nuit? Amène-lesnous pour que nous en abusions."
6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,	6 Lot sortit vers eux à l'entrée et, ayant fermé la porte derrière lui,
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.	7 il dit: "Je vous en supplie, mes frères, ne commettez pas le mal!
8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.	8 Ecoutez: j'ai deux filles qui sont encore vierges, je vais vous les amener: faites-leur ce qui voussemble bon, mais, pour ces hommes, ne leur faites rien, puisqu'ils sont entrés sous l'ombre de mon toit."
9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.	9 Mais ils répondirent: "Ote-toi de là! En voilà un qui est venu en étranger, et il fait le juge! Eh bien,nous te ferons plus de mal qu'à eux!" Ils le pressèrent fort, lui Lot, et s'approchèrent pour briser la porte.
10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.	10 Mais les hommes sortirent le bras, firent rentrer Lot auprès d'eux dans la maison et refermèrent laporte.
11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.	11 Quant aux hommes qui étaient à l'entrée de la maison, ils les frappèrent de berlue, du plus petitjusqu'au plus grand, et ils n'arrivaient pas à trouver l'ouverture.
12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:	12 Les hommes dirent à Lot: "As-tu encore quelqu'un ici? Tes fils, tes filles, tous les tiens qui sontdans la ville, fais-les sortir de ce lieu.
13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.	13 Nous allons en effet détruire ce lieu, car grand est le cri qui s'est élevé contre eux à la face deYahvé, et Yahvé nous a envoyés pour les exterminer."
14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.	14 Lot alla parler à ses futurs gendres, qui devaient épouser ses filles: "Debout, dit-il, quittez ce lieu,car Yahvé va détruire la ville." Mais ses futurs gendres crurent qu'il plaisantait.
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.	15 Lorsque pointa l'aurore, les Anges insistèrent auprès de Lot, en disant: "Debout! prends ta femmeet tes deux filles qui se trouvent là, de peur d'être emporté par le châtiment de la ville."
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.	16 Et comme il hésitait, les hommes le prirent par la main, ainsi que sa femme et ses deux filles, pourla pitié que Yahvé avait de lui. Ils le firent sortir et le laissèrent en dehors de la ville.
17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.	17 Comme ils le menaient dehors, il dit: "Sauve-toi, sur ta vie! Ne regarde pas derrière toi et net'arrête nulle part dans la Plaine, sauve-toi à la montagne, pour n'être pas emporté!"
18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:	18 Lot leur répondit: "Non, je t'en prie, Monseigneur!
19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:	19 Ton serviteur a trouvé grâce à tes yeux et tu as montré unegrande miséricorde à mon égard enm'assurant la vie. Mais moi, je ne puis pas me sauver à la montagne sans que m'atteigne le malheur et que jemeure.
20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.	20 Voilà cette ville, assez proche pour y fuir, et elle est peu de chose. Permets que je m'y sauve --est-ce qu'elle n'est pas peu de chose? -- et que je vive!"
21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.	21 Il lui répondit: "Je te fais encore cette grâce de ne pas renverser la ville dont tu parles.
22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.	22 Vite, sauve-toi là-bas, car je ne puis rien faire avant que tu n'y sois arrivé." C'est pourquoi on adonné à la ville le nom de Coar.
23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.	23 Au moment où le soleil se levait sur la terre et que Lot entrait à Coar,
24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;	24 Yahvé fit pleuvoir sur Sodome et sur Gomorrhe du soufre et du feu venant de Yahvé,
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.	25 et il renversa ces villes et toute la Plaine, avec tous les habitants des villes et la végétation du sol.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.	26 Or la femme de Lot regarda en arrière, et elle devint une colonne de sel.
27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:	27 Levé de bon matin, Abraham vint à l'endroit où il s'était tenu devant Yahvé
28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.	28 et il jeta son regard sur Sodome, sur Gomorrhe et sur toute la Plaine, et voici qu'il vit la fuméemonter du pays comme la fumée d'une fournaise!
29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.	29 Ainsi, lorsque Dieu détruisit les villes de la Plaine, il s'est souvenu d'Abraham et il a retiré Lot dumilieu de la catastrophe, dans le renversement des villes où habitait Lot.
30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.	30 Lot monta de Coar et s'établit dans la montagne avec ses deux filles, car il n'osa pas rester à Coar.Il s'installa dans une grotte, lui et ses deux filles.
31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:	31 L'aînée dit à la cadette: "Notre père est âgé et il n'y a pas d'homme dans le pays pour s'unir à nousà la manière de tout le monde.
32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.	32 Viens, faisons boire du vin à notre père et couchons avec lui; ainsi, de notre père, nous susciteronsune descendance."
33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.	33 Elles firent boire, cette nuit-là, du vin à leur père, et l'aînée vint s'étendre près de son père, quin'eut conscience ni de son coucher ni de son lever.
34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our Father.	34 Le lendemain, l'aînée dit à la cadette: "La nuit dernière, j'ai couché avec mon père; faisons-luiboire du vin encore cette nuit et va coucher avec lui; ainsi, de notre père nous susciterons une descendance."
35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.	35 Elles firent boire du vin à leur père encore cette nuit-là, et la cadette s'étendit auprès de lui, quin'eut conscience ni de son coucher ni de son lever.
36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.	36 Les deux filles de Lot devinrent enceintes de leur père.
37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.	37 L'aînée donna naissance à un fils et elle l'appela Moab; c'est l'ancêtre des Moabites d'aujourd'hui.
38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.	38 La cadette aussi donna naissance à un fils et elle l'appela Ben-Ammi; c'est l'ancêtre des Bené-Ammon d'aujourd'hui.
