1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.	1 Felment tehát Egyiptomból a Negebbe Ábrám, a felesége és mindene, amije volt, és vele Lót is.
2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.	2 Ábrám igen gazdag volt jószágban, aranyban és ezüstben.
3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;	3 Aztán visszament – ugyanazon az úton, amelyen lement – a Negebből Bételbe, egészen addig a helyig, ahol azelőtt a sátrát felütötte, Bétel és Ái közé,
4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.	4 annak az oltárnak a helyéig, amelyet korábban épített, és ott segítségül hívta az Úr nevét.
5 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.	5 Lótnak azonban, aki Ábrámmal volt, szintén voltak juhnyájai, marhacsordái és sátrai.
6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.	6 Így az a föld nem bírta el, hogy együtt lakjanak. Olyan sok jószáguk volt ugyanis, hogy nem lakhattak együtt.
7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.	7 Ebből aztán veszekedés támadt Ábrám és Lót nyájainak pásztorai között. – Abban az időben még kánaániak és periziták laktak azon a földön. –
8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.	8 Ábrám azt mondta tehát Lótnak: »Kérlek, ne legyen veszekedés közöttem és közötted, pásztoraim és pásztoraid között, hiszen testvérek vagyunk!
9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.	9 Itt van előtted ez az egész föld: válj el tőlem, kérlek! Ha te mégy balra, akkor én jobbra tartok, ha te jobbra akarsz, akkor én balra megyek!«
10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.	10 Felemelte tehát Lót a szemét, és látta, hogy az egész Jordán-környék, mindaddig, amíg Coárba jut az ember – ekkor még nem pusztította el az Úr Szodomát és Gomorrát –, mindenütt olyan bővizű, mint az Úr paradicsoma, és mint Egyiptom.
11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.	11 Lót ezért a Jordán-környékét választotta magának, és keletre tért; így elváltak egymástól a testvérek.
12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.	12 Ábrám Kánaán földjén maradt, Lót pedig a Jordán-környék városaiban telepedett meg, és Szodomában lakott.
13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.	13 A szodomai emberek azonban nagyon gonoszak és igen bűnösök voltak az Úr előtt.
14 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:	14 Az Úr azt mondta Ábrámnak, miután Lót elvált tőle: »Emeld fel szemedet, és arról a helyről, ahol most vagy, tekints északra és délre, keletre és nyugatra!
15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.	15 Ezt az egész földet, amelyet látsz, neked és utódaidnak fogom adni örökre.
16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.	16 Olyanná teszem utódodat, mint amilyen a föld pora: ha van ember, aki meg tudja számlálni a föld porszemeit, utódodat is meg tudja majd számlálni.
17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.	17 Kelj fel, és járd be ezt a földet széltében-hosszában, mert neked fogom adni!«
18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.	18 Felszedte tehát Ábrám a sátrát, elment, és letelepedett Mamre Tölgye mellett, amely Hebronban van, s ott oltárt épített az Úrnak.
