1 The ancients therefore that are among you, I beseech, who am myself also an ancient, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ: as also a partaker of that glory which is to be revealed in time to come:	1 Et maintenant je m’adresse aux Anciens parmi vous. Comme vous je suis ancien et témoin des souffrances du Christ, et avec vous j’aurai part à la Gloire qui doit se manifester.
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking care of it, not by constraint, but willingly, according to God: not for filthy lucre's sake, but voluntarily:	2 Prenez soin du troupeau de Dieu là où vous êtes, non pas par obligation, mais de plein gré, pour Dieu. Ne soyez pas intéressés: faites-le de bon cœur.
3 Neither as lording it over the clergy, but being made a pattern of the flock from the heart.	3 Ne vous posez pas en maîtres du domaine; soyez simplement les modèles du troupeau.
4 And when the prince of pastors shall appear, you shall receive a never fading crown of glory.	4 Et quand le suprême Pasteur se montrera à découvert, vous recevrez dans la Gloire, la couronne qui ne se fane pas.
5 In like manner, ye young men, be subject to the ancients. And do you all insinuate humility one to another, for God resisteth the proud, but to the humble he giveth grace.	5 Et vous, les plus jeunes, obéissez aux Anciens. Essayez de rivaliser entre vous à qui sera le plus humble, car Dieu résiste aux orgueilleux et il donne aux humbles.
6 Be you humbled therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in the time of visitation:	6 Courbez-vous donc sous la main puissante de Dieu, pour qu’il vous relève le moment venu.
7 Casting all your care upon him, for he hath care of you.	7 Rejetez sur lui tous vos soucis, il s’en chargera pour vous.
8 Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour.	8 Soyez sur vos gardes et restez éveillés: le diable, votre adversaire, est comme un lion rugissant, il va et vient cherchant qui dévorer.
9 Whom resist ye, strong in faith: knowing that the same affliction befalls your brethren who are in the world.	9 Restez fermes dans la foi de façon à lui résister. Vous savez que les nôtres qui vivent en ce monde sont en butte aux mêmes épreuves.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little, will himself perfect you, and confirm you, and establish you.	10 Dieu n’est que bonté: après vous avoir appelés dans le Christ à sa gloire éternelle, il vous laisse souffrir un moment pour vous façonner, vous affermir, vous fortifier et vous donner votre place définitive.
11 To him be glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen.	11 À lui la puissance pour les siècles des siècles! Amen.
12 By Sylvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I think, I have written briefly: beseeching and testifying that this is the true grace of God, wherein you stand.	12 C’est à Silvain que j’ai fait appel pour vous écrire ces quelques lignes, car je vois en lui un frère digne de confiance. J’ai voulu vous encourager et vous redire que tout ceci est grâce de Dieu: restez fermes.
13 The church that is in Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you: and so doth my son Mark.	13 L’Église qui se rassemble en cette Babylone vous salue, de même que Marc, mon fils.
14 Salute one another with a holy kiss. Grace be to all you, who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.	14 Saluez-vous les uns les autres avec le baiser de la charité. Paix à vous tous dans le Christ.
