Sirach 36

DOUAI-RHEIMS	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 Have mercy upon us, O God of all, and behold us, and shew us the light of thy mercies:	1 Prends pitié de nous, Maître, Dieu de toutes choses et regarde-nous, et jette ta crainte sur toutes les nations.
2 And send thy fear upon the nations, that have not sought after thee: that they may know that there is no God beside thee, and that they may shew forth thy wonders.	2 Lève ta main contre les nations étrangères et fais-leur voir ta puissance!
3 Lift up thy hand over the strange nations, that they may see thy power.	3 Tu leur as montré ta sainteté dans ce qui nous est arrivé, fais-nous voir maintenant ta grandeur en agissant chez elles.
4 For as thou hast been sanctified in us in their sight, so thou shalt be magnified among them in our presence,	4 Fais qu’elles te reconnaissent, comme nous t’avons reconnu: car il n’y a pas d’autre Dieu que toi, Seigneur!
5 That they may know thee, as we also have known thee, that there is no God beside thee, O Lord.	5 Donne de nouveaux signes, renouvelle tes merveilles, montre ta gloire en agissant et frappant.
6 Renew thy signs, and work new miracles.	6 Ravive ta fureur et déverse ta colère; détruis l’adversaire et supprime l’ennemi.
7 Glorify thy hand, and thy right arm.	7 Hâte le jour, souviens-toi de ton serment, et qu’on puisse bientôt raconter tes hauts faits.
8 Raise up indignation, and pour out wrath.	8 Que les survivants soient la proie du feu, que périssent les oppresseurs de ton peuple!
9 Take away the adversary, and crush the enemy.	9 Brise la tête des ennemis, de leurs chefs qui disent: “Il n’y a que nous!”
10 Hasten the time, and remember the end, that they may declare thy wonderful works.	10 Rassemble toutes les tribus de Jacob, et donne-leur comme au commencement leur héritage.
11 ,11Let him that escapeth be consumed by the rage of the fire: and let them perish that oppress thy people.	11 Prends pitié, Seigneur, de ce peuple qui porte ton Nom! pitié pour Israël que tu as considéré comme ton premier-né!
12 Crush the head of the princes of the enemies that say: There is no other beside us.	12 Aie compassion de ta Ville sainte, de Jérusalem, le lieu de ton repos.
13 Gather together all the tribes of Jacob: that they may know that there is no God besides thee, and may declare thy great works: and thou shalt inherit them as from the beginning.	13 Remplis Sion du récit de tes merveilles, et ton peuple de ta gloire.
14 Have mercy on thy people, upon whom thy name is invoked: and upon Israel, m whom thou hast raised up to be thy firstborn.	14 Confirme les promesses que tu fis au début, et fais réapparaître les prophéties en ton nom.
15 Have mercy on Jerusalem, the city which thou hast sanctified, the city of thy rest.	15 Donne leur salaire à ceux qui t’ont attendu, et montre que tes prophètes disaient vrai.
16 Fill Sion with thy unspeakable words, and thy people with thy glory.	16 Exauce, Seigneur, la prière de tes serviteurs, écoute tes prêtres quand ils donnent à ton peuple la bénédiction d’Aaron.
17 Give testimony to them that are thy creatures from the beginning, and raise up the prophecies which the former prophets spoke in thy name.	17 Et que tous sur terre reconnaissent que tu es le Seigneur, le Dieu éternel!
18 Reward them that patiently wait for thee, that thy prophets may be found faithful: and hear the prayers of thy servants,	18 L’estomac absorbe toutes les nourritures, mais certains aliments sont meilleurs que d’autres.
19 According to the blessing of Aaron over thy people, and direct us into the way of justice, and let all know that dwell upon the earth, that thou art God the beholder of all ages.	19 Le palais reconnaît le goût du gibier, de même le cœur avisé détecte les paroles mensongères.
20 The belly will devour all meat, yet one is better than another.	20 Un cœur tortueux cause du chagrin, mais l’homme d’expérience saura lui répondre.
21 ,21The palate tasteth venison and the wise heart false speeches.	21 Une femme accepte n’importe quel mari, mais il y a des filles meilleures que d’autres.
22 A perverse heart will cause grief, and a man of experience will resist it.	22 La beauté d’une femme illumine son visage et comble tous les désirs d’un homme.
23 A woman will receive every man: yet one daughter is better than another.	23 Si ses paroles sont empreintes de bonté et de douceur, son mari est le plus heureux des hommes.
24 The beauty of a woman cheereth the countenance of her husband, and a man desireth nothing more.	24 Celui qui a pris femme a commencé à s’enrichir; il a une aide semblable à lui, une colonne pour s’y appuyer.
25 If she have a tongue that can cure, and likewise mitigate and shew mercy: her husband is not like other men.	25 Un domaine non clôturé attire les pillards: là où manque la femme on gémit et on va à l’aventure.
26 He that possesseth a good wife, beginneth a possession: she is a help like to himself, and a pillar of rest.	26 Qui ferait confiance à un voleur habile courant de ville en ville?
27 Where there is no hedge, the possession shall be spoiled: and where there is no wife, he mourneth that is in want.	27 C’est pareil pour celui qui n’a pas de gîte et s’arrête là où la nuit le surprend.
28 Who will trust him that hath no rest, and that lodgeth wheresoever the night taketh him, as a robber well appointed, that skippeth from city to city.
