DOUAI-RHEIMSGREEK BIBLE
He that seeketh to revenge himself, shall find vengeance from the Lord, and he will surely keep his sins in remembrance.1 ο εκδικων παρα κυριου ευρησει εκδικησιν και τας αμαρτιας αυτου διατηρων διατηρησει
Forgive thy neighbour if he hath hurl thee: and then shall thy sins be forgiven to thee when thou prayest.2 αφες αδικημα τω πλησιον σου και τοτε δεηθεντος σου αι αμαρτιαι σου λυθησονται
Man to man reserveth anger, and doth he seek remedy of God?3 ανθρωπος ανθρωπω συντηρει οργην και παρα κυριου ζητει ιασιν
He hath no mercy on a man like himself, and doth he entreat for his own sins?4 επ' ανθρωπον ομοιον αυτω ουκ εχει ελεος και περι των αμαρτιων αυτου δειται
He that is but flesh, nourisheth anger, and doth he ask forgiveness of God? who shall obtain pardon for his sins?5 αυτος σαρξ ων διατηρει μηνιν τις εξιλασεται τας αμαρτιας αυτου
Remember thy last things, and let enmity cease:6 μνησθητι τα εσχατα και παυσαι εχθραινων καταφθοραν και θανατον και εμμενε εντολαις
For corruption and death hang over in his commandments.7 μνησθητι εντολων και μη μηνισης τω πλησιον και διαθηκην υψιστου και παριδε αγνοιαν
Remember the fear of God, and be not angry with thy neighbour.8 αποσχου απο μαχης και ελαττωσεις αμαρτιας ανθρωπος γαρ θυμωδης εκκαυσει μαχην
Remember the covenant of the most High, and overlook the ignorance of thy neighbour.9 και ανηρ αμαρτωλος ταραξει φιλους και ανα μεσον ειρηνευοντων εμβαλει διαβολην
Refrain from strife, and thou shalt diminish thy sine:10 κατα την υλην του πυρος ουτως εκκαυθησεται και κατα την στερεωσιν της μαχης εκκαυθησεται κατα την ισχυν του ανθρωπου ο θυμος αυτου εσται και κατα τον πλουτον ανυψωσει οργην αυτου
For a passionate man kindleth strife, and a sinful man will trouble his friends, and bring in debate in the midst of them that are at peace.11 ερις κατασπευδομενη εκκαιει πυρ και μαχη κατασπευδουσα εκχεει αιμα
For as the wood of the forest is, so the fire burneth: and as a man's strength is, so shall his anger be, and according to his riches he shall increase his anger.12 εαν φυσησης εις σπινθηρα εκκαησεται και εαν πτυσης επ' αυτον σβεσθησεται και αμφοτερα εκ του στοματος σου εκπορευεται
A hasty contention kindleth a fire: and a hasty quarrel sheddeth blood: and a tongue that beareth witness bringeth death.13 ψιθυρον και διγλωσσον καταρασασθε πολλους γαρ ειρηνευοντας απωλεσεν
If thou blow the spark, it shall burn as a fire: and if thou spit upon it, it shall be quenched: both come out of the mouth.14 γλωσσα τριτη πολλους εσαλευσεν και διεστησεν αυτους απο εθνους εις εθνος και πολεις οχυρας καθειλεν και οικιας μεγιστανων κατεστρεψεν
The whisperer and the double tongued is accursed: for he hath troubled many that were at peace.15 γλωσσα τριτη γυναικας ανδρειας εξεβαλεν και εστερεσεν αυτας των πονων αυτων
The tongue of a third person hath disquieted many, and scattered them from nation to nation.16 ο προσεχων αυτη ου μη ευρη αναπαυσιν ουδε κατασκηνωσει μεθ' ησυχιας
It hath destroyed the strong cities of the rich, and hath overthrown the houses of great men.17 πληγη μαστιγος ποιει μωλωπα πληγη δε γλωσσης συγκλασει οστα
It hath cut in pieces the forces of people, and undone strong nations.18 πολλοι επεσαν εν στοματι μαχαιρας και ουχ ως οι πεπτωκοτες δια γλωσσαν
The tongue of a third person hath cast out valiant women, and deprived them of their labours.19 μακαριος ο σκεπασθεις απ' αυτης ος ου διηλθεν εν τω θυμω αυτης ος ουχ ειλκυσεν τον ζυγον αυτης και εν τοις δεσμοις αυτης ουκ εδεθη
He that hearkeneth to it, shall never have rest, neither shall he have a friend in whom he may repose.20 ο γαρ ζυγος αυτης ζυγος σιδηρους και οι δεσμοι αυτης δεσμοι χαλκειοι
The stroke of a whip maketh a blue mark: but the stroke of the tongue will break the bones.21 θανατος πονηρος ο θανατος αυτης και λυσιτελης μαλλον ο αδης αυτης
Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, but not so many as have perished by their own tongue.22 ου μη κρατηση ευσεβων και εν τη φλογι αυτης ου καησονται
Blessed is he that is defended from a wicked tongue, that hath not passed into the wrath thereof, and that hath not drawn the yoke thereof, and hath not been bound in its bands.23 οι καταλειποντες κυριον εμπεσουνται εις αυτην και εν αυτοις εκκαησεται και ου μη σβεσθη επαποσταλησεται αυτοις ως λεων και ως παρδαλις λυμανειται αυτους
For its yoke is a yoke of iron: and its bands are bands of brass.24 ιδε περιφραξον το κτημα σου ακανθαις το αργυριον σου και το χρυσιον καταδησον
The death thereof is a most evil death: and hell is preferable to it.25 και τοις λογοις σου ποιησον ζυγον και σταθμον και τω στοματι σου ποιησον θυραν και μοχλον
Its continuance shall not be for a long time, but it shall possess the ways of the unjust: and the just shall not be burnt with its flame.26 προσεχε μηπως ολισθης εν αυτη μη πεσης κατεναντι ενεδρευοντος
They that forsake God shall fall into it, and it shall burn in them, and shall not be quenched, and it shall be sent upon them as a lion, and as a leopard it shall tear them.
Hedge in thy ears with thorns, hear not a wicked tongue, and make doors and bars to thy mouth.
Melt down thy gold and silver, and make a balance for thy words, and a just bridle for thy mouth:
And take heed lest thou slip with thy tongue, and fall in the sight of thy enemies who lie in wait for thee, and thy fall be incurable unto death.
