1 Manasses was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.	1 Quando divenne re, Manasse aveva dodici anni; egli regnò a Gerusalemme cinquantacinque anni.
2 And he did evil before the Lord, according to all the abominations of the nations, which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel:	2 Fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, seguendo le abominazioni delle nazioni che il Signore aveva scacciato davanti agl'Israeliti.
3 And he turned, and built again the high places which Ezechias his father had destroyed: and he built altars to Baalim, and made groves, and he adored all the host of heaven, and worshipped them.	3 Egli ricostruì le alture che Ezechia, suo padre, aveva abbattuto, eresse altari ai Baal, fece i pali sacri, adorò tutto l'esercito del cielo e lo servì.
4 He built also altars in the house of the Lord, whereof the Lord had said: In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.	4 Fece erigere altari nel tempio del Signore, del quale il Signore aveva detto: "A Gerusalemme il mio nome rimarrà per sempre".
5 And he built them for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.	5 Costruì altari a tutto l'esercito del cielo nei due cortili del tempio del Signore.
6 And he made his sons to pass through the fire in the valley of Benennom: he observed dreams, followed divinations, gave himself up to magic arts, had with him magicians, and enchanters: and he wrought many evils before the Lord, to provoke him to anger.	6 Fu lui che fece passare i suoi figli attraverso il fuoco nella valle di Ben-Innòm; praticò l'astrologia, la magia e la divinazione stabilendo negromanti e indovini; moltiplicò il male agli occhi del Signore, in modo da provocarne lo sdegno.
7 He set also a graven, and a molten statue in the house of God, of which God had said to David, and to Solomon his son: In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever.	7 Collocò la statua dell'idolo, che si era fatta, nel tempio di Dio, del quale Dio aveva detto a Davide e a Salomone, suo figlio: "In questo tempio ed in Gerusalemme, che ho scelto tra tutte le tribù d'Israele, porrò il mio nome per sempre.
8 And I will not make the foot of Israel to be removed out of the land which I have delivered to their fathers: yet so if they will take heed to do what I hare commanded them, and all the law, and the ceremonies, and judgments by the hand of Moses.	8 Non voglio che il piede d'Israele si allontani più dal suolo che ho destinato ai loro padri, a condizione che si impegnino a eseguire tutto ciò che ho loro comandato secondo tutta la legge, i decreti e le disposizioni date per mezzo di Mosè".
9 So Manasses seduced Juda, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to do evil beyond all the nations, which the Lord had destroyed before the face of the children of Israel.	9 Ma Manasse sviò Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme in modo che essi agirono peggio delle nazioni che il Signore aveva distrutto di fronte agl'Israeliti.
10 And the Lord spoke to him, and to his people, and they would not hearken.	10 Il Signore parlò a Manasse e al suo popolo, ma essi non prestarono attenzione.
11 Therefore he brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of the Assyrians: and they took Manasses, and carried him bound with chains and fetters to Babylon.	11 Allora il Signore fece marciare contro di essi i capi dell'esercito del re di Assiria; questi presero Manasse con uncini e, legatolo con doppia catena di bronzo, lo condussero in Babilonia.
12 And after that he was in distress he prayed to the Lord his God: and did penance exceedingly before the God of his fathers.	12 Trovandosi in angustia Manasse implorò il Signore, suo Dio, e si umiliò profondamente davanti al Dio dei suoi padri.
13 And he entreated him, and besought him earnestly: and he heard his prayer, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom, and Manasses knew that the Lord was God.	13 Lo supplicò e fu esaudito; il Signore ascoltò la sua supplica e lo ricondusse a Gerusalemme nel suo regno. Allora Manasse riconobbe che il Signore è Dio!
14 After this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon in the valley, from the entering in of the fish gate round about to Ophel, and raised it up to a great height: and he appointed captains of the army in all the fenced cities of Juda:	14 Dopo di ciò egli costruì un muro esterno alla Città di Davide, a occidente di Ghicon nella valle, fino alla porta dei Pesci, tutto intorno all'Ofel e lo fece molto alto. Poi stabilì dei capi dell'esercito in tutte le città fortificate di Giuda.
15 And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the Lord: the altars also which he had made in the mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem, and he cast them all out of the city.	15 Fece sparire dal tempio del Signore gli dèi stranieri e l'idolo, come anche tutti gli altari che aveva costruito sulla collina del tempio del Signore e in Gerusalemme e li gettò fuori della città.
16 And he repaired the altar of the Lord, and sacrificed upon it victims, and peace offerings, and praise: and he commanded Juda to serve the Lord the God of Israel.	16 Quindi ristabilì l'altare del Signore offrendo sopra di esso sacrifici pacifici e di lode e ordinò ai Giudei di servire il Signore, Dio d'Israele.
17 Nevertheless the people still sacrificed in the high places to the Lord their God.	17 Tuttavia il popolo continuava a offrire sacrifici sulle alture, ma solamente in onore del Signore, suo Dio.
18 But the rest of the acts of Manasses, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers that spoke to him in the name of the Lord the God of Israel, are contained in the words of the kings of Israel.	18 Il resto degli atti di Manasse, la preghiera che egli rivolse al suo Dio e le parole dei veggenti che gli parlarono in nome del Signore, Dio d'Israele, sono scritti negli Atti dei re d'Israele.
19 His prayer also, and his being heard, and all his sins, and contempt, and places wherein he built high places, and set up groves, and statues before he did penance, are written in the words of Hozai.	19 La sua preghiera e come fu esaudito, ogni suo peccato e infedeltà, i luoghi sui quali eresse le alture e drizzò pali sacri e idoli prima di essere umiliato, è scritto negli Atti di Cozai.
20 And Manasses slept with his fathers. and they buried him in his house: and his son Amen reigned in his stead.	20 Manasse si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nel giardino della sua casa. Al suo posto regnò Amòn, suo figlio.
21 Amen was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.	21 Quando cominciò a regnare Amòn aveva ventidue anni e regnò due anni a Gerusalemme.
22 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as Manasses his father had done: and he sacrificed to all the idols which Manasses his father had made, and served them.	22 Fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, come aveva fatto Manasse, suo padre. Amòn offrì sacrifici a tutti gli idoli che Manasse, suo padre, aveva fatto costruire e li servì.
23 And he did not humble himself before the Lord, as Manasses his father had humbled himself, but committed far greater sins.	23 Non si umiliò davanti al Signore come s'era umiliato Manasse, suo padre, anzi egli, Amòn, aumentò le sue colpe.
24 And his servants conspired against him, and slew him in his own house.	24 I suoi servi fecero una congiura contro di lui e lo uccisero nella sua casa.
25 But the rest of the multitude of the people slew them that had killed Amen, and made Josias his son king in his stead.	25 Allora il popolo del paese colpì a morte tutti quelli che avevano cospirato contro il re Amòn e il popolo del paese proclamò re al suo posto Giosia, suo figlio.
