1 And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanon his son reigned in his stead.	1 Μετα δε ταυτα απεθανεν ο βασιλευς των υιων Αμμων, και εβασιλευσεν αντ' αυτου Ανουν ο υιος αυτου.
2 And David said: I Will shew kindness to Hanon the son of Daas, as his father shewed kindness to me. So David sent his servants to comfort him for the death of his father. But when the servants of David were come into the land of the children of Ammon,	2 Και ειπεν ο Δαβιδ, Θελω καμει ελεος προς Ανουν, τον υιον του Ναας, επειδη ο πατηρ αυτου εκαμεν ελεος προς εμε. Και απεστειλεν ο Δαβιδ να παρηγορηση αυτον περι του πατρος αυτου δια χειρος των δουλων αυτου. Και ηλθον οι δουλοι του Δαβιδ εις την γην των υιων Αμμων.
3 The princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanon their lord: Thinkest thou that for the honour of thy father, David hath sent comforters to thee, and hath not David rather sent his servants to thee to search, and spy into the city, and overthrow it?	3 Και ειπον οι αρχοντες των υιων Αμμων προς Ανουν τον κυριον αυτων, Νομιζεις οτι ο Δαβιδ τιμων τον πατερα σου απεστειλε προς σε παρηγορητας; δεν απεστειλεν ο Δαβιδ τους δουλους αυτου προς σε, δια να ερευνηση την πολιν και να κατασκοπευση αυτην και να καταστρεψη αυτην;
4 Wherefore Hanon took the servants of David, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut away half of their garments even to the buttocks, and sent them away.	4 Και επιασεν ο Ανουν τους δουλους του Δαβιδ, και εξυρισε το ημισυ του πωγωνος αυτων και απεκοψε το ημισυ των ιματιων αυτων μεχρι των γλουτων αυτων, και απεπεμψεν αυτους.
5 When this was told David, he sent to meet them: for the men were sadly put to confusion, and David commanded them, saying: Stay at Jericho, till your beards be grown, and then return.	5 Οτε απηγγειλαν τουτο προς τον Δαβιδ, απεστειλεν εις συναντησιν αυτων, επειδη οι ανδρες ησαν ητιμασμενοι σφοδρα? και ειπεν ο βασιλευς, Καθησατε εν Ιεριχω εωσου αυξηνθωσιν οι πωγωνες σας, και επιστρεψατε.
6 And the children of Ammon seeing that they had done an injury to David, Bent and hired the Syrians of Rohob, and the Syrians of Soba, twenty thousand footmen, and of the king of Maacha a thousand men, and of Istob twelve thousand men.	6 Βλεποντες δε οι υιοι Αμμων οτι ησαν βδελυκτοι εις τον Δαβιδ, απεστειλαν οι υιοι Αμμων και εμισθωσαν εκ των Συριων Βαιθ-ρεωβ και των Συριων Σωβα εικοσι χιλιαδας πεζων, και παρα του βασιλεως Μααχα χιλιους ανδρας, και παρα του Ις-τωβ δωδεκα χιλιαδας ανδρων.
7 And when David heard this, he sent Joab and the whole army of warriors.	7 Και οτε ηκουσε ταυτα ο Δαβιδ, απεστειλε τον Ιωαβ και απαν το στρατευμα των δυνατων.
8 And the children of Ammon came out, and set their men in array at the entering in of the gate: but the Syrians of Soba, and of Rohob, and of Istob, and of Maacha were by themselves in the field.	8 Και εξηλθον οι υιοι Αμμων και παρεταχθησαν εις πολεμον κατα την εισοδον της πυλης? και οι Συριοι Σωβα και Ρεωβ και Ις-τωβ και Μααχα ησαν καθ' εαυτους εν τη πεδιαδι.
9 Then Joab seeing that the battle was prepared against him, both before and behind, chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:	9 Βλεπων δε ο Ιωαβ οτι η μαχη παρεταχθη εναντιον αυτου εμπροσθεν και οπισθεν, εξελεξεν εκ παντων των εκλεκτων του Ισραηλ και παρεταξεν αυτους εναντιον των Συριων?
10 And the rest of the people he delivered to Abisai his brother, who set them in array against the children of Ammon.	10 το δε υπολοιπον του λαου εδωκεν εις την χειρα του Αβισαι, αδελφου αυτου, και παρεταξεν αυτους εναντιον των υιων Αμμων.
11 And Joab said: If the Syrians are too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon are too strong for thee, then I will help thee.	11 Και ειπεν, Εαν οι Συριοι υπερισχυσωσι κατ' εμου, τοτε συ θελεις με σωσει εαν δε οι υιοι Αμμων υπερισχυσωσι κατα σου, τοτε εγω θελω ελθει δια να σε σωσω?
12 Be of good courage, and let us fight for our people, and for the city of our God: and the Lord will do what is good in his sight.	12 ανδριζου, και ας κραταιωθωμεν υπερ του λαου ημων και υπερ των πολεων του Θεου ημων? ο δε Κυριος ας καμη το αρεστον εις τους οφθαλμους αυτου.
13 And Joab and the people that were with him, began to fight against the Syrians: and they immediately fled before him.	13 Και προσηλθεν ο Ιωαβ και ο λαος ο μετ' αυτου εις μαχην εναντιον των Συριων? οι δε εφυγον απ' εμπροσθεν αυτου.
14 And the children of Ammon seeing that the Syrians were fled, they fled also before Abisai, and entered into the city: and Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.	14 Και οτε ειδον οι υιοι Αμμων οτι οι Συριοι εφυγον, τοτε εφυγον και αυτοι απ' εμπροσθεν του Αβισαι και εισηλθον εις την πολιν. Και ο Ιωαβ επεστρεψεν απο των υιων Αμμων και ηλθεν εις Ιερουσαλημ.
15 Then the Syrians seeing that they had fallen before Israel, gathered themselves together.	15 Ιδοντες δε οι Συριοι οτι κατετροπωθησαν εμπροσθεν του Ισραηλ, συνηθροισθησαν ομου.
16 And Adarezer sent and fetched the Syrians, that were beyond the river, and brought over their army: and Sobach, the captain of the host of Adarezer, was their general.	16 Και απεστειλεν ο Αδαρεζερ και εξηγαγε τους Συριους τους περαν του ποταμου? και ηλθον εις Αιλαμ? και Σωβακ, ο αρχιστρατηγος του Αδαρεζερ, προεπορευετο εμπροσθεν αυτων.
17 And when this was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam: and the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought against him.	17 Και οτε απηγγελθη προς τον Δαβιδ, συνηθροισε παντα τον Ισραηλ και διεβη τον Ιορδανην και ηλθεν εις Αιλαμ. Οι δε Συριοι παρεταχθησαν εναντιον του Δαβιδ και επολεμησαν με αυτον.
18 And the Syrians fled before Israel, and David slew of the Syrians the men of seven hundred chariots, and forty thousand horsemen: and smote Sobach the captain of the army, who presently died.	18 Και εφυγον οι Συριοι απ' εμπροσθεν του Ισραηλ? και εξωλοθρευσεν ο Δαβιδ εκ των Συριων επτακοσιας αμαξας και τεσσαρακοντα χιλιαδας ιππεων, και Σωβακ τον αρχιστρατηγον αυτων επαταξε, και απεθανεν εκει.
19 And all the kings that were auxiliaries of Adarezer, seeing themselves overcome by Israel, were afraid and fled away, eight and fifty thousand men before Israel. And they made peace with Israel: and served them, and all the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.	19 Και ιδοντες παντες οι βασιλεις, οι δουλοι του Αδαρεζερ, οτι κατετροπωθησαν εμπροσθεν του Ισραηλ, εκαμον ειρηνην μετα του Ισραηλ και εγειναν δουλοι αυτων. Και οι Συριοι εφοβουντο να βοηθησωσι πλεον τους υιους Αμμων.
