Lettera di Giacomo 1

1 GIACOMO, servitor di Dio, e del Signor Gesù Cristo, alle dodici tribù, che son nella dispersione; salute	1 James, servant of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes of the dispersion, greetings.
2 REPUTATE compiuta allegrezza, fratelli miei, quando sarete caduti in diverse tentazioni;	2 My brothers, when you have fallen into various trials, consider everything a joy,
3 sapendo che la prova della vostra fede produce pazienza.	3 knowing that the proving of your faith exercises patience,
4 Or abbia la pazienza un’opera compiuta; acciocchè voi siate compiuti ed intieri, non mancando di nulla.	4 and patience brings a work to perfection, so that you may be perfect and whole, deficient in nothing.
5 Che se alcun di voi manca di sapienza, chieggala a Dio, che dona a tutti liberalmente, e non fa onta, e gli sarà donata.	5 But if anyone among you is in need of wisdom, let him petition God, who gives abundantly to all without reproach, and it shall be given to him.
6 Ma chieggala in fede, senza star punto in dubbio; perciocchè chi sta in dubbio è simile al fiotto del mare, agitato dal vento e dimenato.	6 But he should ask with faith, doubting nothing. For he who doubts is like a wave on the ocean, which is moved about by the wind and carried away;
7 Imperocchè, non pensi già quel tal uomo di ricever nulla dal Signore;	7 then a man should not consider that he would receive anything from the Lord.
8 essendo uomo doppio di cuore, instabile in tutte le sue vie.	8 For a man who is of two minds is inconstant in all his ways.
9 Or il fratello che è in basso stato si glorii della sua altezza.	9 Now a humble brother should glory in his exaltation,
10 E il ricco, della sua bassezza; perciocchè egli trapasserà come fior d’erba.	10 and a rich one, in his humiliation, for he will pass away like the flower of the grass.
11 Imperocchè, come quando è levato il sole con l’arsura, egli ha tosto seccata l’erba, e il suo fiore è caduto, e la bellezza della sua apparenza è perita, così ancora si appasserà il ricco nelle sue vie.	11 For the sun has risen with a scorching heat, and has dried the grass, and its flower has fallen off, and the appearance of its beauty has perished. So also will the rich one wither away, according to his paths.
12 Beato l’uomo che sopporta la tentazione; perciocchè, essendosi reso approvato, egli riceverà la corona della vita, la quale il Signore ha promessa a coloro che l’amano	12 Blessed is the man who suffers temptation. For when he has been proven, he shall receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him.
13 Niuno, essendo tentato, dica: Io son tentato da Dio; poichè Iddio non può esser tentato di mali, e altresì non tenta alcuno.	13 No one should say, when he is tempted, that he was tempted by God. For God does not entice toward evils, and he himself tempts no one.
14 Ma ciascuno è tentato, essendo attratto e adescato dalla propria concupiscenza.	14 Yet truly, each one is tempted by his own desires, having been enticed and drawn away.
15 Poi appresso, la concupiscenza, avendo conceputo, partorisce il peccato; e il peccato, essendo compiuto, genera la morte.	15 Thereafter, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin. Yet truly sin, when it has been consummated, produces death.
16 Non errate, fratelli miei diletti:	16 And so, do not choose to go astray, my most beloved brothers.
17 ogni buona donazione, ed ogni dono perfetto, è da alto, discendendo dal padre dei lumi, nel quale non vi è mutamento, nè ombra di cambiamento.	17 Every excellent gift and every perfect gift is from above, descending from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor any shadow of alteration.
18 Egli ci ha di sua volontà generati per la parola della verità, acciocchè siamo in certo modo le primizie delle sue creature	18 For by his own will he produced us through the Word of truth, so that we might be a kind of beginning among his creatures.
19 PERCIÒ, fratelli miei diletti, sia ogni uomo pronto all’udire, tardo al parlare, lento all’ira.	19 You know this, my most beloved brothers. So let every man be quick to listen, but slow to speak and slow to anger.
20 Perciocchè l’ira dell’uomo non mette in opera la giustizia di Dio.	20 For the anger of man does not accomplish the justice of God.
21 Perciò, deposta ogni lordura, e feccia di malizia, ricevete con mansuetudine la parola innestata in voi, la quale può salvar le anime vostre.	21 Because of this, having cast away all uncleanness and an abundance of malice, receive with meekness the newly-grafted Word, which is able to save your souls.
22 E siate facitori della parola, e non solo uditori; ingannando voi stessi.	22 So be doers of the Word, and not listeners only, deceiving yourselves.
23 Perciocchè, se alcuno è uditor della parola, e non facitore, egli è simile ad un uomo che considera la sua natia faccia in uno specchio.	23 For if anyone is a listener of the Word, but not also a doer, he is comparable to a man gazing into a mirror upon the face that he was born with;
24 Imperocchè, dopo ch’egli si è mirato, egli se ne va, e subito ha dimenticato quale egli fosse.	24 and after considering himself, he went away and promptly forgot what he had seen.
25 Ma chi avrà riguardato bene addentro nella legge perfetta, che è la legge della libertà, e sarà perseverato; esso, non essendo uditore dimentichevole, ma facitor dell’opera, sarà beato nel suo operare.	25 But he who gazes upon the perfect law of liberty, and who remains in it, is not a forgetful hearer, but instead a doer of the work. He shall be blessed in what he does.
26 Se alcuno pare esser religioso fra voi, e non tiene a freno la sua lingua, ma seduce il cuor suo, la religion di quel tale è vana.	26 But if anyone considers himself to be religious, but he does not restrain his tongue, but instead seduces his own heart: such a one’s religion is vanity.
27 La religione pura ed immacolata, dinanzi a Dio e Padre, è questa; visitar gli orfani, e le vedove, nelle loro afflizioni; e conservarsi puro dal mondo	27 This is religion, clean and undefiled before God the Father: to visit orphans and widows in their tribulations, and to keep yourself immaculate, apart from this age.
