Seconda lettera a Timoteo 1

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 PAOLO, apostolo di Gesù Cristo, per la volontà di Dio, secondo la promessa della vita, che è in Cristo Gesù,	1 From Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus through the wil of God in accordance with his promise of life in ChristJesus,
2 a Timoteo, figliuol diletto, grazia, misericordia, e pace, da Dio Padre, e dal Signor nostro Cristo Gesù.	2 to Timothy, dear son of mine. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus ourLord.
3 IO rendo grazie a Dio, al qual servo fin da’ miei antenati, in pura coscienza; che non resto mai di ritener la memoria di te nelle mie orazioni, notte e giorno;	3 Night and day I thank God whom I serve with a pure conscience as my ancestors did. I remember you inmy prayers constantly night and day;
4 desideroso di vederti, ricordandomi delle tue lagrime, acciocchè io sia ripieno d’allegrezza;	4 I remember your tears and long to see you again to complete my joy.
5 riducendomi a memoria la fede non finta che è in te, la qual prima abitò in Loide tua avola, ed in Eunice tua madre; or son persuaso che abita in te ancora	5 I also remember your sincere faith, a faith which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your motherEunice, and I am sure dwel s also in you.
6 Per la qual cagione io ti rammemoro che tu ravvivi il dono il Dio, il quale è in te per l’imposizione delle mie mani.	6 That is why I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift of God that you possess through thelaying on of my hands.
7 Poichè Iddio non ci ha dato spirito di timore; ma di forza, e d’amore, e di correzione.	7 God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power and love and self-control.
8 Non recarti adunque a vergogna la testimonianza del Signor nostro, nè me suo prigione; anzi partecipa le afflizioni dell’evangelo, secondo la virtù di Dio.	8 So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to our Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; butshare in my hardships for the sake of the gospel, relying on the power of God
9 Il qual ci ha salvati, e ci ha chiamati per santa vocazione; non secondo le nostre opere, ma secondo il proprio proponimento, e grazia, la quale ci è stata data in Cristo Gesù avanti i tempi de’ secoli.	9 who has saved us and called us to be holy -- not because of anything we ourselves had done but for hisown purpose and by his own grace. This grace had already been granted to us, in Christ Jesus, before thebeginning of time,
10 Ed ora è stata manifestata per l’apparizione del Salvator nostro Gesù Cristo, che ha distrutta la morte, ed ha prodotta in luce la vita, e l’immortalità, per l’evangelo.	10 but it has been revealed only by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus. He has abolished death,and he has brought to light immortality and life through the gospel,
11 A che io sono stato posto banditore, ed apostolo, e dottor de’ Gentili.	11 in whose service I have been made herald, apostle and teacher.
12 Per la qual cagione ancora io soffro queste cose; ma non me ne vergogno; perciocchè io so a cui ho creduto, e son persuaso ch’egli è potente da guardare il mio deposito per quel giorno.	12 That is why I am experiencing my present sufferings; but I am not ashamed, because I know in whom Ihave put my trust, and I have no doubt at all that he is able to safeguard until that Day what I have entrusted tohim.
13 Ritieni la forma delle sane parole, che tu hai udite da me, in fede, e carità, che è in Cristo Gesù.	13 Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are inChrist Jesus.
14 Guarda il buon deposito, per lo Spirito Santo, che abita in noi	14 With the help of the Holy Spirit who dwel s in us, look after that precious thing given in trust.
15 Tu sai questo: che tutti quelli che son nell’Asia si son ritratti da me; de’ quali è Figello, ed Ermogene.	15 As you know, Phygelus and Hermogenes and al the others in Asia have deserted me.
16 Conceda il Signore misericordia alla famiglia di Onesiforo; perciocchè spesse volte egli mi ha ricreato, e non si è vergognato della mia catena.	16 I hope the Lord wil be kind to al the family of Onesiphorus, because he has often been a comfort tome and has never been ashamed of my chains.
17 Anzi, essendo a Roma, studiosissimamente mi ha cercato, e mi ha trovato.	17 On the contrary, as soon as he reached Rome, he searched hard for me and found me.
18 Concedagli il Signore di trovar misericordia presso il Signore in quel giorno. Quanti servigi ancora egli ha fatti in Efeso, tu il sai molto bene	18 May the Lord grant him to find the Lord's mercy on that Day. You know better than anyone else howmuch he helped me at Ephesus.
