1 Saúl habló a su hijo Jonatán y a todos sus servidores de su proyecto de matar a David. Pero Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, quería mucho a David,	1 Now Saul spoke to his son Jonathan, and to all his servants, so that they would kill David. But Jonathan, the son of Saul, loved David very much.
2 y lo puso sobre aviso, diciéndole: «Mi padre Saúl intenta matarte. Ten mucho cuidado mañana por la mañana; retírate a un lugar oculto y no te dejes ver.	2 And Jonathan revealed it to David, saying: “Saul, my father, is seeking to kill you. Because of this, I ask you, take care for yourself in the morning. And you should conceal yourself and remain in hiding.
3 Yo saldré y me quedaré junto con mi padre en el campo donde tú estés; le hablaré de ti, veré que pasa y te lo comunicaré».	3 Then I, going out, will be standing beside my father in the field, where you will be. And I will speak about you to my father. And whatever I see, I will report to you.”
4 Jonatán habló a su padre Saúl en favor de David, y le dijo: «Que el rey no peque contra su servidor David, ya que él no ha pecado contra ti. Al contrario, sus acciones te reportan grandes beneficios.	4 Then Jonathan spoke good things about David to his father Saul. And he said to him: “You should not sin, O king, against your servant David. For he has not sinned against you, and his works toward you are very good.
5 El se jugó la vida cuando derrotó al filisteo, y el Señor dio una gran victoria a todo Israel. Si tanto te alegraste al verlo, ¿por qué vas a pecar con sangre inocente, matando a David sin motivo?».	5 And he took his life in his own hand, and struck down the Philistine. And the Lord wrought a great salvation for all of Israel. You saw it, and you rejoiced. Why then would you sin against innocent blood by killing David, who is without guilt?”
6 Saúl hizo caso a Jonatán y pronunció este juramento: «¡Por la vida del Señor, no morirá!».	6 And when Saul had heard this, being pleased by the voice of Jonathan, he swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be killed.”
7 Jonatán llamó a David y lo puso al tanto de todo. Luego lo llevó a la presencia de Saúl, y David quedó a su servicio como antes.	7 And so Jonathan called David, and he revealed to him all of these words. And Jonathan led in David to Saul, and he was before him, just as he had been yesterday and the day before.
8 Al reanudarse la guerra, David salió a combatir contra los filisteos; les infligió una gran derrota y ellos huyeron ante él.	8 Then the war was stirred up again. And David went out and fought against the Philistines. And he struck them down with a great slaughter. And they fled from his face.
9 Entonces, un mal espíritu del Señor se apoderó de Saúl. Mientras él estaba sentado en su casa, con la lanza en la mano, y David tocaba su instrumento,	9 And the evil spirit from the Lord came to Saul, who was sitting in his house and holding a lance. And David was playing music with his hand.
10 Saúl trató de clavarlo contra la pared con la lanza. Pero David esquivó el golpe de Saúl, y la lanza se clavó en la pared. En seguida David huyó y se puso a salvo.	10 And Saul attempted to fix David to the wall with the lance. But David turned aside from the face of Saul. And the lance failed to wound him, and it became fixed in the wall. And David fled, and so he was saved that night.
11 Saúl envió unos emisarios a la casa de David, para vigilarlo y darle muerte a la mañana. Pero Mical, su esposa, le advirtió: «Si no salvas tu vida esta noche, mañana estarás muerto».	11 Therefore, Saul sent his guards to David’s house, so that they might watch for him, and so that he might be killed in the morning. And after Michal, his wife, had reported this to David, saying, “Unless you save yourself this night, tomorrow you will die,”
12 Mical ayudó a David a bajar por la ventana, y él huyó para ponerse a salvo.	12 she lowered him down through a window. Then he fled and went away, and he was saved.
13 Luego, Mical tomó el ídolo familiar y lo colocó sobre la cama; puso en la cabecera un cuero de cabra y lo cubrió con una manta.	13 Then Michal took a statue, and placed it on the bed. And she placed the pelt of a goat for the hair at its head. And she covered it with clothes.
14 Saúl envió emisarios para que detuvieran a David, pero Mical les dijo: «Está enfermo».	14 And Saul sent attendants to seize David. And it was answered that he was sick.
15 Saúl los mandó de nuevo a ver a David, con esta orden: «¡Tráiganmelo con cama y todo, para que yo lo mate!».	15 And again, Saul sent messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him to me on the bed, so that he may be killed.”
16 Pero cuando los emisarios entraron, no encontraron en la cama más que el ídolo, con el cuero de cabra en la cabecera.	16 And when the messengers had arrived, they found a likeness on the bed, with a goat pelt at its head.
17 Saúl dijo a Mical: «¿Qué manera de engañarme es esta? ¡Has dejado escapar a mi enemigo!». Mical le respondió: «El me dijo: «O me dejas partir o te mato».	17 And Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me in this way, and released my enemy, so that he may flee?” And Michal responded to Saul, “Because he said to me, ‘Release me, otherwise I will kill you.’ ”
18 Una vez que huyó y se puso a salvo, David se presentó a Samuel en Ramá y le contó todo lo que le había hecho Saúl. Luego, él y Samuel fueron a alojarse en Naiot.	18 Now David was saved by fleeing, and he went to Samuel in Ramah. And he reported to him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went away and stayed at Naioth.
19 Cuando informaron a Saúl de que David estaba en Naiot, en Ramá,	19 Then it was reported to Saul by some, saying, “Behold, David is at Naioth, in Ramah.”

And when they had seen a company of prophets prophesying, with Samuel presiding over them, the Spirit of the Lord also came to them, and they also began to prophesy.
21 Al enterarse de esto, Saúl envió otros emisarios, pero también ellos entraron en trance. Por tercera vez, Saúl volvió a enviar emisarios, y también ellos entraron en trance.	21 And when this was reported to Saul, he sent other messengers. But they also prophesied. And again, Saul sent messengers a third time. And they also prophesied. And Saul, being exceedingly angry,
22 Entonces fue él personalmente a Ramá. Al llegar a la gran cisterna que está en Secú, Saúl preguntó: «¿Dónde están Samuel y David?». «Están en Naiot, cerca de Ramá», le respondieron,	22 also went to Ramah himself. And he went as far as the great cistern, which is in Socoh. And he inquired and said, “In which place are Samuel and David?” And it was told to him, “Behold, they are at Naioth, in Ramah.”
23 De allí se dirigió a Naiot, en Ramá, y el espíritu del Señor se apoderó de él, de manera que fue caminando en estado de trance hasta Naiot, en Ramá.	23 And he went to Naioth, in Ramah, and the Spirit of the Lord came to him also. And he continued on, walking and prophesying, until he arrived at Naioth, in Ramah.
24 También él se despojó de su ropa y estuvo en trance delante de Samuel. Luego cayó rendido, y estuvo desnudo todo aquel día y aquella noche. Por eso se puede decir: «¿También Saúl está entre los profetas?».	24 And he also took off his garments, and he prophesied with the others before Samuel. And he fell down naked, throughout that day and night. From this, too, is derived the proverb, “Could Saul also be among the prophets?”
