EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Yo, el Presbítero, saludo a mi querido hermano Gayo, a quien amo de verdad.	1 From the Elder: greetings to my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Querido hermano, ruego a Dios que te encuentre perfectamente bien y que goces de buena salud en tu cuerpo, como la tienes en tu alma.	2 My dear friend, I hope everything is going happily with you and that you are as well physical y as youare spiritual y.
3 Me alegré mucho cuando llegaron algunos hermanos y dieron testimonio de tu adhesión a la verdad, porque efectivamente tú vives de acuerdo con ella,	3 It was a great joy to me when some brothers came and told of your faithfulness to the truth, and of yourlife in the truth.
4 y mi mayor alegría es saber que mis hijos viven en la verdad.	4 It is always my greatest joy to hear that my children are living according to the truth.
5 Querido hermano, tú obras fielmente, al ponerte al servicio de tus hermanos, incluso de los que están de paso,	5 My dear friend, you have done loyal work in helping these brothers, even though they were strangers toyou.
6 y ellos dieron testimonio de tu amor delante de la Iglesia. Harás bien en ayudarlos para que puedan proseguir su viaje de una manera digna de Dios.	6 They are a proof to the whole Church of your love and it would be a kindness if you could help them ontheir journey as God would approve.
7 porque ellos se pusieron en camino para servir a Cristo, sin aceptar nada de los paganos,	7 It was entirely for the sake of the name that they set out, without depending on the non-believers foranything:
8 Por eso debemos acogerlos, a fin de colaborar con ellos en favor de la verdad.	8 it is our duty to welcome people of this sort and contribute our share to their work for the truth.
9 Yo escribí una carta a la Iglesia, pero Diótrefes, que aspira a ocupar el primer puesto en ella, no reconoce nuestra autoridad.	9 I have written a note for the members of the church, but Diotrephes, who enjoys being in charge of it,refuses to accept us.
10 Por eso, cuando vaya, le echaré en cara el mal que hace hablando en contra de nosotros. Y no contento con esto, no quiere recibir a los hermanos, y a los que quisiera recibirlos, les prohibe que lo hagan y los expulsa de la Iglesia.	10 So if I come, I shal tel everyone how he has behaved, and about the wicked accusations he has beencirculating against us. As if that were not enough, he not only refuses to welcome our brothers, but prevents fromdoing so other people who would have liked to, and expels them from the church.
11 Querido hermano, no imites lo malo, sino lo bueno. El que hace el bien pertenece a Dios, pero el que hace al mal no ha visto a Dios.	11 My dear friend, never fol ow a bad example, but keep fol owing the good one; whoever does what isright is from God, but no one who does what is wrong has ever seen God.
12 En cambio, todos dan testimonio en favor de Demetrio, y la verdad confirma este testimonio. Nosotros también lo hacemos, y tú sabes que nuestro testimonio es verdadero.	12 Demetrius has been approved by everyone, and indeed by Truth itself. We too wil vouch for him andyou know that our testimony is true.
13 Tendría muchas cosas que decirte, pero no quiero hacerlo por carta.	13 There were several things I had to tel you but I would rather not trust them to pen and ink.
14 Espero verte pronto para hablarte personalmente.	14 However, I hope to see you soon and talk to you in person.
