Deuteronomio 28

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Si escuchas la voz del Señor, tu Dios, y te empeñas en practicar todos los mandamientos que hoy te prescribo, él te pondrá muy por encima de todas las naciones de la tierra.	1 'But if you faithful y obey the voice of Yahweh your God, by keeping and observing al hiscommandments, which I am laying down for you today, Yahweh your God wil raise you higher than every othernation in the world,
2 Y por haber escuchado la voz del Señor, tu Dios, vendrán sobre ti y te alcanzarán todas estas bendiciones:	2 and al these blessings wil befal and overtake you, for having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God.
3 Bendito serás en la ciudad y bendito en el campo.	3 'You wil be blessed in the town and blessed in the countryside;
4 Benditos serán el fruto de tus entrarás y el fruto de tu suelo, los partos de tu ganado y las crías de tus vacas y tus ovejas.	4 blessed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the yield of your livestock, the young of yourcattle and the increase of your flocks;
5 Bendita será tu canasta y bendito el recipiente donde amasas tu pan.	5 blessed, your basket and your kneading trough.
6 Bendito serás al salir y bendito al entrar.	6 You wil be blessed in coming home, and blessed in going out.
7 El Señor hará que caigan derrotados todos los enemigos que se alcen contra ti vendrán a atacarte por un camino y por siete caminos huirán de ti.	7 The enemies who attack you, Yahweh wil defeat before your eyes; they wil advance on you from onedirection and flee from you in seven.
8 El Señor ordenará que la bendición esté contigo en tus graneros y en todas tus empresas, y te bendecirá en la tierra que él te da.	8 Yahweh wil command blessedness to be with you, on your barns and on al your undertakings, andhe wil bless you in the country given you by Yahweh your God.
9 El Señor hará de ti su pueblo santo, como te lo juró, si cumples sus mandamientos y sigues sus caminos.	9 'From you Yahweh wil make a people consecrated to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep thecommandments of Yahweh your God and fol ow his ways.
10 Entonces todos los pueblos de la tierra verán que tú eres llamado con el nombre del Señor, tu Dios, y te temerán.	10 The peoples of the world, seeing that you bear Yahweh's name, wil al be afraid of you.
11 El Señor te dará sobreabundancia de bienes en el fruto de tus entrañas, en las crías de tu ganado y en los productos de tu suelo, de la tierra que él te da, porque así lo juro a tus padres.	11 Yahweh wil make you abound in possessions: in the offspring of your body, in the yield of your cattleand in the yield of your soil, in the country which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.
12 El te abrirá el cielo –su rico tesoro– para proveer de lluvia a tu tierra en el momento oportuno, y para bendecir todos tus trabajos. Serás acreedor de muchas naciones y deudor de ninguna.	12 For you Yahweh wil open his treasury of rain, the heavens, to give your country its rain at the righttime, and to bless al your labours. You wil make many nations your subjects, yet you wil be subject to none.
13 El Señor te podrá al frente, no detrás. Siempre estarás arriba, nunca abajo, con tal que obedezcas los mandamientos del Señor, tu Dios, que hoy te ordenó practicar cuidadosamente,	13 Yahweh wil put you at the head, not at the tail; you wil always be on top and never underneath, ifyou listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I am laying down for you today, and then keepthem and put them into practice,
14 sin apartarte, ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda. de las palabras que hoy te prescribo, y sin ir detrás de otros dioses para servirlos.	14 not deviating to right or to left from any of the words which I am laying down for you today, byfol owing other gods and serving them.
15 Pero si no escuchas la voz del Señor, tu Dios y no te empeñas en practicar todos los mandamientos y preceptos que hoy te prescribo, caerán sobre ti y te alcanzarán todas estas maldiciones:	15 'But if you do not obey the voice of Yahweh your God, and do not keep and observe all hiscommandments and laws which I am laying down for you today then all these curses wil befall and overtakeyou.
16 Maldito serás en la ciudad y maldito en el campo.	16 'You wil be accursed in the town and accursed in the countryside;
17 Maldita será tu canasta y maldito el recipiente donde amasas tu pan.	17 accursed, your basket and your kneading trough;
18 Malditos serán el fruto de tus entrañas y el fruto de tu suelo, las crías de tus vacas y los partos de tus ovejas.	18 accursed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the young of your cattle and the increaseof your flock.
19 Maldito serás al entrar y maldito al salir.	19 You wil be accursed in coming home, and accursed in going out.
20 El Señor enviará contra ti la maldición, el pánico y el fracaso sobre todas tus empresas, hasta que seas exterminado y desaparezca rápidamente, a causa de tu mal proceder, por haberme abandonado.	20 'Yahweh wil send a curse on you, a spel , an imprecation on al your labours until you have beendestroyed and quickly perish, because of your perverse behaviour, for having deserted me.
21 El Señor hará que se te contagie la peste, hasta que seas eliminado de la tierra que vas a tomar en posesión.	21 Yahweh wil fasten the plague on you, until it has exterminated you from the country which you areabout to enter and make your own.
22 El Señor te castigará con tisis, fiebre, inflamación, ardores, aridez, quemadura y pulgón que te hostigarán hasta que desaparezca.	22 Yahweh wil strike you down with consumption, fever, inflammation, burning fever, drought, wind-blast, mildew, and these wil pursue you to your ruin.
23 El cielo sobre tu cabeza será de bronce, y la tierra bajo tus pies será de hierro.	23 The heavens above you wil be brass, the earth beneath you iron.
24 En lugar de lluvia, el Señor enviará polvo a tu tierra, y sobre ti caerá arena desde el cielo, hasta que seas exterminado.	24 Your country's rain Yahweh wil turn into dust and sand; it will fal on you from the heavens until youperish.
25 El Señor te hará caer derrotado ante tus enemigos: saldrás a atacarlo por un camino y por siete caminos huirás de ellos; y todos los reinos de la tierra sentirán horror de ti,	25 Yahweh wil have you defeated by your enemies; you will advance on them from one direction andflee from them in seven; and you wil be a terrifying object-lesson to al the kingdoms of the world.
26 Tus cadáveres serán pasto de todas las aves del cielo y de todos los animales de la tierra, y no habrá nadie que los espante.	26 Your carcase will be carrion for al wild birds and al wild animals, with no one to scare them away.
27 El Señor te herirá con forúnculos de Egipto, con tumores, sarna y tiña, de los que no podrás curarte.	27 'Yahweh wil strike you down with Egyptian ulcers, with swel ings in the groin, with scurvy and theitch, for which you wil find no cure.
28 El Señor te castigará con locura, ceguera y delirio,	28 Yahweh wil strike you down with madness, blindness, distraction of mind,
29 y andarás a tientas en pleno día, como anda a tientas un ciego, envuelto en la oscuridad. Nunca verás realizados tus proyectos: serás oprimido y despojado constantemente y nadie saldrá en tu defensa.	29 until you grope your way at noon like a blind man groping in the dark, and your steps will lead younowhere. 'You will never be anything but exploited and plundered, with no one to save you.
30 Te casarás con una mujer y otro gozará de ella. Construirás una casa y no la habitarás. Plantarás una viña y no recogerás sus frutos.	30 Get engaged to a woman, another man will have her; build a house, you wil not live in it; plant avineyard, you wil not gather its first-fruits.
31 Tu buey será degollado delante de tus ojos y no lo podrás comer. Tu asno será arrebatado de tu misma presencia y no te lo devolverán. Tus ovejas serán entregadas a tus enemigos y nadie saldrá en tu defensa.	31 Your ox wil be slaughtered before your eyes and you will eat none of it; your donkey wil be carriedoff in front of you and not be returned to you; your sheep wil be given to your enemies, and no one will come toyour help.
32 Tus hijos y tus hijas serán entregados a otro pueblo; y tu vista se consumirá de tanto mirar hacia ellos, pero no podrás hacer nada.	32 Your sons and daughters wil be handed over to another people, and every day you will wear youreyes out watching for them, while your hands are powerless.
33 Un pueblo que no conoces comerá el fruto de tu suelo y todo el producto de tus fatigas. Serás oprimido y explotado constantemente,	33 A nation hitherto unknown to you wil eat the yield of your soil and of all your hard work. You wilnever be anything but exploited and crushed.
34 hasta volverte loco a causa de lo que verán tus ojos.	34 You wil be driven mad by the sights you wil see.
35 El Señor te herirá con forúnculos malignos e incurables en las rodillas y en las piernas, desde la planta de los pies hasta la cabeza.	35 Yahweh wil strike you down with foul ulcers on knee and leg, for which you wil find no cure -- fromthe sole of your foot to the top of your head.
36 El Señor los deportará, a ti y al rey que hayas puesto para que te gobierne, a una nación que ni tú ni tus padres conocían, y allí servirás a otros dioses, dioses de maderas y de piedra.	36 'Yahweh wil send away both you and the king whom you have appointed to rule you to a nationunknown either to you or to your ancestors, and there you will serve other gods, made of wood and stone.
37 Entonces serás motivo de consternación y de burla en todos los pueblos adonde el Señor te conduzca.	37 And you wil be the astonishment, the byword, the laughing-stock of al the peoples where Yahweh istaking you.
38 Sembrarás en tus campos mucha semilla, pero cosecharás muy poco, porque la devorará la langosta.	38 'You wil cast seed in plenty on the fields but harvest little, since the locust wil devour it.
39 Plantarás viñas y las cultivarás, pero no podrás beber ni almacenar el vino, porque se las comerá el gusano.	39 You wil plant and till your vineyards but not drink the wine or gather the grapes, since the grub willeat them up.
40 Tendrás olivares en todo tu territorio, pero no podrás ungirte con aceite, porque se caerán las aceitunas.	40 You wil grow olive trees throughout your territory but not anoint yourself with the oil, since your olivetrees wil be cut down.
41 Tendrás hijos e hijas, pero no te pertenecerán, porque serán llevados cautivos.	41 You wil father sons and daughters but they will not belong to you, since they wil go into captivity.
42 Los insectos arrasarán con todos tus árboles y con todos los frutos de tu suelo.	42 Al your trees and the whole yield of your soil will be the prey of insects.
43 El extranjero que viva en tu país subirá cada vez más alto mientras que tú caerás cada vez más bajo.	43 'The foreigners living with you wil rise higher and higher at your expense, while you yourself sinklower and lower.
44 El será tu acreedor, y tú, su deudor; él estará al frente, y tú detrás.	44 You wil be subject to them, not they to you; they wil be the ones at the head, and you the one at thetail.
45 Todas estas maldiciones caerán sobre ti, te perseguirán y te alcanzarán hasta exterminarte, por no haber escuchado la voz del Señor, tu Dios, observando los mandamientos y los preceptos que él te prescribió.	45 'Al these curses wil befal you, pursue you and overtake you until you have been destroyed, for nothaving obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God by keeping his commandments and laws which he has laid downfor you.
46 Ellas estarán siempre sobre ti y sobre tus descendientes, como una señal y una advertencia.	46 They wil be a sign and a wonder over you and your descendants for ever.
47 Por no haber servido al Señor, tu Dios con alegría y de todo corazón, mientras lo tenías todo en abundancia,	47 'For not having joyful y and with happy heart served Yahweh your God, despite the abundance ofeverything,
48 servirás a los enemigos que el Señor enviará contra ti, en medio del hambre y la sed, de la desnudez y de toda clase de privaciones. Y él pondrá en tu cuello un yuyo de hierro, hasta destruirte.	48 you will have to serve the enemy whom Yahweh wil send against you, in hunger, thirst, lack ofclothing and total privation. He will put an iron yoke on your neck, until he has destroyed you.
49 El Señor alzará contra ti a una nación lejana, que avanzará desde los extremos de la tierra con la velocidad del águila. Será una nación cuya lengua no entiendes,	49 'Against you Yahweh wil raise a distant nation from the ends of the earth like an eagle taking wing: anation whose language you do not understand,
50 un pueblo de aspecto feroz, que no sentirá compasión del anciano ni se apiadará del niño.	50 a nation grim of face, with neither respect for the old, nor pity for the young.
51 Ella se comerá los productos de tu ganado y los frutos de tu suelo, hasta que quedes exterminado, porque te dejará totalmente desprovisto de trigo, de vino y de aceite, de las crías de tus vacas y tus ovejas, hasta hacerte desaparecer.	51 He wil eat the yield of your cattle and the yield of your soil until you have been destroyed; he willleave you neither wheat, nor wine, nor oil, nor the young of your cattle, nor increase of your flock, until he hasmade an end of you.
52 Sitiará a todas tus ciudades, hasta que se derrumben esas murallas altas e inaccesibles en que habías depositado tu confianza, Sí, él te sitiará en todas las ciudades que estén dentro de la tierra que el Señor, tu Dios, te da.	52 He wil besiege you inside al your towns until your loftiest and most strongly fortified walls collapse,on which, throughout your country, you have relied. He wil besiege you inside al the towns throughout yourcountry, given you by Yahweh your God.
53 Y durante el asedio, será tal la penuria a que te reducirá tu enemigo, que te comerás hasta el fruto de tus entrañas, la carne de tus hijos y de tus hijas, los mismos que el Señor, tu Dios, te había dado.	53 During the siege and in the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you, you wil eat the offspring ofyour own body, the flesh of the sons and daughters given you by Yahweh your God.
54 El más fino y delicado entre los hombres de tu pueblo mirará con odio a su hermano, a la esposa que dormía en sus brazos y a los hijos que todavía le queden,	54 The gentlest and tenderest of your men wil scowl at his brother, and at the wife whom he embraces,and at his remaining children,
55 para no compartir con ellos la carne de sus hijos: se la comerá él solo, porque ya no le quedará nada, en medio del asedio y la penuria a que te reducirá tu enemigo en todas tus ciudades.	55 not wil ing to give any of them any of his own children's flesh, which he is eating; because of thesiege and the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns, he wil have nothing left.
56 La más fina y delicada entre las mujeres de tu pueblo –tan fina y delicada que ni siquiera se hubiera atrevido a pisar el suelo con la planta de sus pies– mirará con odio al esposo de su corazón, a su hijo y a su hija,	56 The most refined and fastidious of your women, so refined, so fastidious that she has never venturedto set the sole of her foot to the ground, wil scowl at the husband whom she embraces, and at her son anddaughter, and at the after-birth when it leaves her womb, and at the child to which she has given birth-
57 y se ocultará para comer la placenta salida de su seno a los hijos que dé a luz, porque estará privada de todo, en medio del asedio y la penuria a que te reducirá tu enemigo.	57 she will hide away and eat them, so complete wil be the starvation resulting from the siege and thedistress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns.
58 Si no te empeñas en practicar todas las palabras de esta Ley, como están escritas en este Libro, temiendo el Nombre glorioso y terrible del Señor, tu Dios,	58 'If you do not keep and observe al the words of this Law, which are written in this book, in the fear ofthis glorious and awe-inspiring name: Yahweh your God,
59 él te castigará, a ti y a tu descendencia, con calamidades extraordinarias. Serán calamidades grades y persistentes, enfermedades malignas e incurables.	59 Yahweh wil strike you down with monstrous plagues, you and your descendants: with plaguesgrievous and lasting, diseases pernicious and enduring.
60 El hará recaer sobre ti todas las plagas de Egipto, esas que tanto te horrorizaron.	60 He wil afflict you with al the maladies of Egypt which you used to dread, and they wil fasten on you.
61 Además, el Señor te enviará todas las enfermedades y todas las desgracias que no están escritas en el libro de esta Ley, hasta que seas exterminado.	61 What is more, Yahweh wil afflict you with all the plagues and all the diseases not mentioned in thebook of this Law, until you have been destroyed.
62 Después de haber sido numeroso, como las estrellas del cielo, quedarás reducido a un pequeño número, por no haber escuchado la voz del Señor, tu Dios.	62 There will only be a smal group of you left, you who were once as numerous as the stars of heaven.'For not having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God,
63 Y así como antes él complacía en hacerlos felices y numerosos, luego se complacerá en destruirlos y exterminarlos. Y ustedes serán arrancados de la tierra, donde vas a entrar para tomar posesión de ella.	63 just as Yahweh used to delight in making you happy and in making your numbers grow, so wil hetake delight in ruining you and destroying you. You wil be torn from the country which you are about to enter andmake your own.
64 El Señor te dispersará entre todos los pueblos, de un extremo al otro de la tierra, y allí servirás a otros dioses que ni tú ni tus padres conocían, dioses de madera y de piedra.	64 Yahweh wil scatter you throughout every people, from one end of the earth to the other; there youwil serve other gods made of wood and stone, hitherto unknown either to you or to your ancestors.
65 No tendrás paz en medio de aquellas naciones y tu pie no encontrará descanso. El Señor llenará de angustia tu corazón, nublará tus ojos y abatirá tu ánimo.	65 Among these nations there wil be no repose for you, no rest for the sole of your foot; there Yahwehwil give you a quaking heart, weary eyes, halting breath.
66 Tu vida estará pendiente de un hijo, día y noche sentirás temor y no tendrás ninguna seguridad de sobrevivir.	66 Your life ahead of you wil hang in doubt; you wil be afraid day and night, uncertain of your life.
67 Por la mañana dirás» «¡Ojalá fuera de tarde!», a causa del temor que sentirás y de lo que verán tus ojos.	67 In the morning you wil say, "How I wish it were evening!", and in the evening you will say, "How I wish it were morning!", such terror will grip your heart and such sights you wil see!
68 El Señor te hará volver en barcos a Egipto, por eses camino del que yo te venderán a sus enemigos como esclavos y esclavas, pero nadie querrá comprarlos.	68 Yahweh wil send you back to Egypt, either by ship or by a road which I promised you would neversee again. And there you wil want to offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as serving men and women, butno one wil buy you.'
69 Estas son las palabras de la alianza que el Señor ordenó a Moisés hacer con los israelitas en territorio de Moab, además de la alianza que había hecho con ellos en el Horeb.	69 These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh ordered Moses to make with the Israelites inMoab, in addition to the covenant which he had made with them at Horeb.
