1 Cuando Jesús terminó de dar estas instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, partió de allí, para enseñar y predicar en las ciudades de la región.	1 And it happened that, when Jesus had completed instructing his twelve disciples, he went away from there in order to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 Juan el Bautista oyó hablar en la cárcel de las obras de Cristo, y mandó a dos de sus discípulos para preguntarle:	2 Now when John had heard, in prison, about the works of Christ, sending two of his disciples, he said to him,
3 «¿Eres tú el que ha de venir o debemos esperar a otro?».	3 “Are you he who is to come, or should we expect another?”
4 Jesús les respondió: «Vayan a contar a Juan lo que ustedes oyen y ven:	4 And Jesus, responding, said to them: “Go and report to John what you have heard and seen.
5 los ciegos ven y los paralíticos caminan; los leprosos son purificados y los sordos oyen; los muertos resucitan y la Buena Noticia es anunciada a los pobres.	5 The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor are evangelized.
6 ¡Y feliz aquel para quien yo no sea motivo de escándalo!».	6 And blessed is he who has found no offense in me.”
7 Mientras los enviados de Juan se retiraban, Jesús empezó a hablar de él a la multitud, diciendo: «¿Qué fueron a ver al desierto? ¿Una caña agitada por el viento?	7 Then, after they departed, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
8 ¿Qué fueron a ver? ¿Un hombre vestido con refinamiento? Los que se visten de esa manera viven en los palacios de los reyes.	8 So what did you go out to see? A man in soft garments? Behold, those who are clothed in soft garments are in the houses of kings.
9 ¿Qué fueron a ver entonces? ¿Un profeta? Les aseguro que sí, y más que un profeta.	9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
10 El es aquel de quien está escrito: "Yo envío a mi mensajero delante de ti, para prepararte el camino".	10 For this is he, of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send my Angel before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.’
11 Les aseguro que no ha nacido ningún hombre más grande que Juan el Bautista; y sin embargo, el más pequeño en el Reino de los Cielos es más grande que él.	11 Amen I say to you, among those born of women, there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 Desde la época de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el Reino de los Cielos es combatido violentamente, y los violentos intentan arrebatarlo.	12 But from the days of John the Baptist, even until now, the kingdom of heaven has endured violence, and the violent carry it away.
13 Porque todos los Profetas, lo mismo que la Ley, han profetizado hasta Juan.	13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied, even until John.
14 Y si ustedes quieren crearme, él es aquel Elías que debe volver.	14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah, who is to come.
15 ¡El que tenga oídos, que oiga!	15 Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.
16 ¿Con quién puedo comparar a esta generación? Se parece a esos muchachos que, sentados en la plaza, gritan a los otros:	16 But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplace,
17 «¡Les tocamos la flauta, y ustedes no bailaron! ¡Entonamos cantos fúnebres, y no lloraron!»	17 who, calling out to their companions, say: ‘We played music for you, and you did not dance. We lamented, and you did not mourn.’
18 Porque llegó Juan, que no come ni bebe, y ustedes dicen: «¡Ha perdido la cabeza!».	18 For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
19 Llegó el Hijo del hombre, que come y bebe, y dicen: «Es un glotón y un borracho, amigo de publicanos y pecadores». Pero la Sabiduría ha quedado justificada por sus obras».	19 The Son of man came eating and drinking; and they say, ‘Behold, a man who eats voraciously and who drinks wine, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is justified by her sons.”
20 Entonces Jesús comenzó a recriminar a aquellas ciudades donde había realizado más milagros, porque no se habían convertido.	20 Then he began to rebuke the cities in which many of his miracles were accomplished, for they still had not repented.
21 «¡Ay de ti, Corozaín! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si los milagros realizados entre ustedes se hubieran hecho en Tiro y en Sidón, hace tiempo que se habrían convertido, poniéndose cilicio y cubriéndose con ceniza.	21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in haircloth and ashes.
22 Yo les aseguro que, en el día del Juicio, Tiro y Sidón serán tratadas menos rigurosamente que ustedes.	22 Yet truly, I say to you, Tyre and Sidon shall be forgiven more than you, on the day of judgment.
23 Y tú, Cafarnaúm, ¿acaso crees que serás elevada hasta el cielo? No, serás precipitada hasta el infierno. Porque si los milagros realizados en ti se hubieran hecho en Sodoma, esa ciudad aún existiría.	23 And you, Capernaum, would you be exalted all the way to heaven? You shall descend all the way to Hell. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, perhaps it would have remained, even to this day.
24 Yo les aseguro que, en el día del Juicio, la tierra de Sodoma será tratada menos rigurosamente que tú».	24 Yet truly, I say to you, that the land of Sodom shall be forgiven more than you, on the day of judgment.”
25 En esa oportunidad, Jesús dijo: «Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, por haber ocultado estas cosas a los sabios y a los prudentes y haberlas revelado a los pequeños.	25 At that time, Jesus responded and said: “I acknowledge you, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the prudent, and have revealed them to little ones.
26 Sí, Padre, porque así lo has querido.	26 Yes, Father, for this was pleasing before you.
27 Todo me ha sido dado por mi Padre, y nadie conoce al Hijo sino el Padre, así como nadie conoce al Padre sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.	27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father. And no one knows the Son except the Father, nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and those to whom the Son is willing to reveal him.
28 Vengan a mí todos los que están afligidos y agobiados, y yo los aliviaré.	28 Come to me, all you who labor and have been burdened, and I will refresh you.
29 Carguen sobre ustedes mi yugo y aprendan de mí, porque soy paciente y humilde de corazón, y así encontrarán alivio.	29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you shall find rest for your souls.
30 Porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga liviana.	30 For my yoke is sweet and my burden is light.”
