EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 El Señor dijo a Moisés en las estepas de Moab, junto al Jordán, a la altura de Jericó:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho, and said:
2 Ordena a los israelitas que cedan a los levitas, de su patrimonio hereditario, ciudades para vivir y campos de pastoreo alrededor de las mismas.	2 'Order the Israelites, from the heritage they possess, to give the Levites towns in which to live andpasture land round the towns. You wil give these to the Levites.
3 Las ciudades les servirán de morada, y los campos de pastoreo serán para su ganado y sus otros animales.	3 The towns must be their homes and the surrounding pasture land must be for their cattle, theirpossessions and all their animals.
4 Los campos de pastoreo de las ciudades que ustedes cederán a los levitas, se extenderán hasta quinientos metros alrededor de la ciudad, a partir de las murallas.	4 The pasture land surrounding the towns which you give to the Levites wil extend, from the wal s ofthe towns, for a thousand cubits al round.
5 Ustedes medirán fuera de la ciudad, mil metros hacia el este, mil hacia el sur, mil hacia el oeste, y mil hacia el norte, tomando la ciudad como centro: estos serán los campos de pastoreo para las ciudades.	5 'Outside the town, measure two thousand cubits to the east, two thousand cubits to the south, twothousand cubits to the west and two thousand cubits to the north, the town lying in the centre; such wil be thepasture lands of these towns.
6 Las ciudades que cederán a los levitas serán las seis ciudades de refugio que ustedes deben separar para que los homicidas puedan huir a ellas, añadiendo además, otras cuarenta y dos.	6 The towns you give to the Levites wil be six cities of refuge, ceded by you as sanctuary for those whocommit manslaughter; and you will give forty-two towns in addition.
7 Así darán a los levitas un total de cuarenta y ocho ciudades, todas ellas con sus campos de pastoreo.	7 Altogether you wil give the Levites forty-eight towns, with their pasture lands.
8 Cuando cedan esas ciudades, tomándolas de lo que es propiedad de los israelitas, exigirán más de los grupos numerosos, y menos de los grupos más pequeños, y menos de los grupos más pequeños. De esta manera, cada uno cederá a los levitas una cantidad de ciudades proporcionada a la herencia que haya recibido.	8 Of the towns which you give from the Israelites' possessions, you wil give more from those who havemore, and less from those who have less. Each wil give some of his towns to the Levites, in proportion to theheritage he himself has received.'
9 Luego el Señor dijo a Moisés:	9 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
10 Habla en estos términos a los israelitas: Cuando crucen el Jordán para entrar en la tierra de Canaán,	10 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "Once you have crossed the Jordan into Canaan,
11 encontrarán ciudades que les servirán como ciudades de refugio, donde puedan huir los homicidas que hay matado a alguien involuntariamente.	11 you wil find towns, some of which you wil make into cities of refuge where those who haveaccidental y committed manslaughter can take sanctuary.
12 Esas ciudades servirán de refugio contra el vengador del homicidio, y así el homicida no morirá sin haber comparecido delante de la comunidad para ser juzgado.	12 These towns wil afford you refuge from the avenger of blood, so that the kil er will not be put todeath before standing trial before the community.
13 Ustedes tendrán que señalar seis ciudades de refugio:	13 Of the towns you give, six wil serve you as cities of refuge:
14 tres el otro lado del Jordán y tres en el territorio de Canaán.	14 as cities of refuge, you wil give three towns on the other side of the Jordan and wil give three townsin Canaan.
15 Esas seis ciudades podrán servir de refugio no sólo a los israelitas, sino también a los extranjeros residentes o que estén de paso entre ustedes, de manera que todo el que haya matado a otro involuntariamente, pueda refugiarse en ellas.	15 These six towns wil serve as refuge for the Israelites, for the foreigner and for the resident alien,where anyone who has accidental y kil ed someone can take sanctuary.
16 Pero el que mata a otro golpeándolo con un objeto de hierro, es un asesino, y el asesino será castigado con la muerte.	16 "But if he has struck the person with an iron object so as to cause death, he is a murderer. Themurderer wil be put to death.
17 Si lo mata de una pedrada capaz de causar la muerte, es un asesino, y el asesino será castigado con la muerte.	17 If he has struck him with a stone meant for kil ing, and has kil ed him, he is a murderer. Themurderer wil be put to death.
18 Si lo mata golpeándolo con un palo capaz de causar la muerte, es un asesino, y el asesino será castigado con la muerte.	18 Or if he has struck him with a wooden instrument meant for kil ing, and has kil ed him, he is amurderer. The murderer will be put to death.
19 El vengador del homicidio en persona debe matar al asesino apenas lo encuentre.	19 The avenger of blood wil put the murderer to death. Whenever he finds him, he wil put him todeath.
20 Si el homicida mató a la víctima por odio, o si le arrojó intencionalmente un objeto capaz de causar la muerte,	20 "If the killer has maliciously manhandled his victim, or thrown some lethal missile to strike him down,
21 o si por enemistad lo hirió a golpes de puño hasta matarlo, el agresor será castigado con la muerte: es un asesino, y el vengador del homicidio lo matará apenas lo encuentre.	21 or out of enmity dealt him the death-blow with his fist, then he who struck the blow wil be put todeath; he is a murderer; the avenger of blood wil put him to death whenever he finds him.
22 Pero si lo hirió fortuitamente, sin que mediara enemistad, o si le arrojó un objeto sin intención de alcanzarlo,	22 If, however, he has manhandled his victim by chance, without malice, or thrown some missile at himnot meaning to hit him
23 o si dejó caer sobre él, inadvertidamente, una piedra capaz de matarlo y de esa manera le causó la muerte, sin tener odio contra él y sin desearle ningún mal,	23 or, without seeing him, dropped on him a stone meant for kil ing and so kil ed him, so long as hebore him no malice and wished him no harm,
24 la comunidad juzgará, conforme a estas reglas, entre el homicida y el vengador del homicidio,	24 then the community will decide in accordance with these rules between the one who struck the blowand the avenger of blood,
25 y librará a aquel de las manos de este. Luego la comunidad lo hará volver a la ciudad de refugio, adonde había huido, y él permanecerá allí hasta la muerte del Sumo Sacerdote que ha sido ungido con el óleo santo.	25 and wil save the kil er from the clutches of the avenger of blood. They will send him back to the cityof refuge where he had taken sanctuary, and there he wil stay until the death of the high priest who has beenanointed with the holy oil.
26 Si el homicida sale de la ciudad de refugio adonde había huido,	26 Should the kil er leave the bounds of the city of refuge in which he has taken sanctuary
27 y el vengador del homicidio lo encuentra fuera de los límites de su ciudad de refugio, lo podrá matar sin temor a ninguna represalia,	27 and the avenger of blood encounter him outside the bounds of his city of refuge, the avenger ofblood may kil him without fear of reprisal;
28 porque el homicida debe permanecer en su ciudad de refugio hasta la muerte del Sumo Sacerdote, y solamente después podrá volver al lugar donde está su propiedad.	28 since the kil er should stay in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest; only after the deathof the high priest is he free to go back to his own piece of property.
29 Estas disposiciones serán una norma jurídica para ustedes y para sus descendientes, en cualquier lugar donde se encuentren.	29 Such wil be the legal rule for you and your descendants, wherever you may live.
30 Si alguien mata a una persona, el homicida será condenado a muerte por la declaración de testigos, pero el testimonio de uno solo no basta para condenar a muerte a alguien.	30 "In any case of homicide, the evidence of witnesses wil determine whether the kil er must be put todeath; but a single witness is not enough to sustain a capital charge.
31 No aceptarán ningún rescate por la vida de un asesino, porque debe morir,	31 You wil not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer condemned to death; he must die.
32 Tampoco lo aceptarán de aquel que huyó a su ciudad de refugio, permitiéndole que habite nuevamente en su propia tierra antes de la muerte del Sumo Sacerdote.	32 Nor wil you accept a ransom for anyone who, having taken sanctuary in his city or refuge, wishes tocome back and live at home before the death of the high priest.
33 No profanen la tierra donde viven, porque la sangre profana la tierra, y no hay para la tierra otra expiación por la sangre derramada, que la sangre de aquel que la derramó.	33 Do not profane the country you live in. Blood profanes the country and, for the country, the onlyexpiation for the blood shed in it is the blood of the man who shed it.
34 No hagas impuro el país donde vives y en el cual yo habito. Porque yo, el Señor, habito entre los israelitas.	34 So do not defile the country which you live in and where I live; for I, Yahweh, live among theIsraelites." '
