EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Por eso el Señor ha cumplido la amenaza que había pronunciado contra nosotros, contra los jueces que gobernaron a Israel, contra nuestros reyes, contra nuestros jefes y contra los hombres de Israel y de Judá.	1 And now, O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, the soul in anguish, and the troubled spirit crieth to thee:
2 Nunca se hizo bajo el cielo nada semejante a lo que él hizo en Jerusalén, conforme a lo que está escrito en la Ley de Moisés,	2 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy, for thou art a merciful God, and have pity on us: for we have sinned before thee.
3 a tal punto que llegamos a comer, uno la carne de su hijo, y otro la carne de su hija.	3 For thou remainest for ever, and shall we perish everlastingly?
4 El los entregó en manos de todos los reinos que nos rodean, para que cayeran en el oprobio y la desolación, entre todos los pueblos de los alrededores donde el Señor los dispersó.	4 O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, hear now the prayer of the dead of Israel, and of their children, that have sinned before thee, and have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord their God, wherefore evils have cleaved fast to us.
5 Así quedaron sometidos, en lugar de prevalecer, porque nosotros hemos pecado contra el Señor, nuestro Dios, al no escuchar su voz.	5 Remember not the iniquities of our fathers, but think upon thy hand, and upon thy name at this time:
6 Al Señor, nuestro Dios, pertenece la justicia; a nosotros, en cambio, y a nuestros padres la vergüenza reflejada en el rostro, como sucede en el día de hoy.	6 For thou art the Lord our God, and we will praise thee, O Lord:
7 Todo lo que el Señor había anunciado contra nosotros, todas esas desgracias nos han sobrevenido.	7 Because for this end thou hast put thy fear in our hearts, to the intent that we should call upon thy name, and praise thee in our captivity, for we are converted from the iniquity of our fathers, who sinned before thee.
8 Nosotros no hemos aplacado con nuestras súplicas el rostro del Señor, apartándonos cada uno de los pensamientos de su corazón perverso.	8 And behold we are at this day in our captivity, whereby thou hast scattered us to be a reproach, and a curse, and an offence, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, who departed from thee, O Lord our God.
9 Por eso el Señor estuvo atento a estas calamidades y las descargó sobre nosotros, porque él es justo en todo lo que nos manda hacer.	9 Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: give ear, that thou mayst learn wisdom.
10 Pero nosotros no hemos escuchado la voz del Señor, que nos mandaba seguir los preceptos que él puso delante de nosotros.	10 How happeneth it, O Israel, that thou art in thy enemies' land?
11 Y ahora, Señor, Dios de Israel, que hiciste salir a tu pueblo de la tierra de Egipto con mano fuerte, con signos y portentos, con gran poder y con el brazo en alto, haciéndote así un Nombre famoso hasta el día de hoy,	11 Thou art grown old in a strange country, thou art defiled with the dead: thou art counted with them that go down into hell.
12 nosotros hemos pecado, nos hemos hecho impíos, hemos incurrido en la injusticia, Señor, Dios nuestro, desobedeciendo todas tus prescripciones.	12 Thou hast forsaken the fountain of wisdom :
13 Que tu furor se aparte de nosotros, porque hemos quedado muy pocos entre las naciones donde nos has dispersado.	13 For if thou hadst walked in the way of God, thou hadst surely dwelt in peace for ever.
14 Escucha, Señor, nuestra oración y nuestra súplica, y por tu honor, líbranos y concédenos el favor de aquellos que nos han deportado,	14 Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding: that thou mayst know also where is length of days and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace.
15 para que toda la tierra conozca que tú eres el Señor, nuestro Dios, porque tu Nombre ha sido invocado sobre Israel y sobre su raza.	15 Who hath found out her place? and who hath gone in to her treasures?
16 Mira, Señor, desde tu santa morada y piensa en nosotros; inclina tu oído y escucha;	16 Where are the princes of the nations, and they that rule over the beasts that are upon the earth?
17 abre, Señor, tus ojos y mira; porque no son los muertos que están en el Abismo, aquellos cuyo espíritu ha sido arrancado de sus entrañas, los que tributan gloria y justicia al Señor ;	17 That take their diversion with the birds of the air.
18 sino que es el alma llena de aflicción, y son los que caminan encorvados y sin fuerzas, los ojos debilitados y el alma hambrienta los que te tributan, Señor, gloria y justicia.	18 That hoard up silver and gold, wherein men trust, and there is no end of their getting? who work in silver and are solicitous, and their works are unsearchable.
19 No es por las obras de justicia de nuestros padres y de nuestros reyes, que nosotros presentamos nuestra súplica delante de tu rostro, Señor, Dios nuestro.	19 They are cut off, and are gone down to hell, and others are risen up in their place.
20 Porque tú has enviado sobre nosotros tu furor y tu indignación, como lo habías anunciado por medio de tus servidores, los profetas, diciendo:	20 Young men have seen the light, and dwelt upon the earth: but the way of knowledge they have not known,
21 Así habla el Señor: Dobleguen sus espaldas y sirvan al rey de Babilonia, y permanecerán en la tierra que yo he dado a sus padres.	21 Nor have they understood the paths thereof, neither have their children received it, it is far from their face.
22 Pero si ustedes no escuchan la voz del Señor, sirviendo al rey de Babilonia,	22 It hath not been heard of in the land of Chanaan, neither hath it been seen in Theman.
23 yo haré cesar en las ciudades de Judá y dentro de Jerusalén el grito de gozo y el grito de alegría, el canto del esposo y el canto de la esposa, y todo el país se convertirá en un desierto sin habitantes.	23 The children of Agar also, that search after the wisdom that is of the earth, the merchants of Merrha, and of Theman, and the tellers of fables, and searchers of prudence and understanding: but the way of wisdom they have not known, neither have they remembered her paths.
24 Y nosotros no hemos escuchado tu voz, que nos mandaba servir al rey de Babilonia; por eso, tú has cumplido la amenaza que habías pronunciado por medio de tus servidores, los profetas, a saber, que serían sacados de su sitio los huesos de nuestros reyes y los huesos de nuestros padres.	24 O Israel, how great is the house of God, and how vast is the place of his possession!
25 Y ahora han sido arrojados al calor del día y al frío de la noche, después de haber muerto en medio de crueles sufrimientos, por el hambre, la espada y la peste.	25 It is great, and hath no end: it is high and immense.
26 Tú has reducido Esta Casa sobre la que había sido invocado tu Nombre, a lo que es en el día de hoy, a causa de la maldad de la casa de Israel y de la casa de Judá.	26 There were the giants, those renowned men that were from the beginning, of great stature, expert in war.
27 Sin embargo, tú nos has tratado, Señor, Dios nuestro, conforme a toda tu benignidad y a tu gran compasión,	27 The Lord chose not them, neither did they find the way of knowledge: therefore did they perish.
28 como lo habías anunciado por medio de Moisés, tu servidor, el día en que le ordenaste escribir tu Ley en presencia de los israelitas, diciendo:	28 And because they had not wisdom, they perished through their folly.
29 «Si ustedes no escuchan mi voz, esta grande, esta inmensa muchedumbre será reducida a un pequeño número entre las naciones adonde los dispersaré.	29 Who hath gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds?
30 Yo sé, en efecto, que ellos no me escucharán, porque son un pueblo obstinado y rebelde, pero en la tierra de su exilio, volverán sobre sí mismos	30 Who hath passed over the sea, and found her, and brought her preferably to chosen gold?
31 y conocerán que yo soy el Señor, su Dios. Les daré un corazón y oídos dóciles,	31 There is none that is able to know her ways, nor that can search out her paths :
32 y ellos me alabarán en la tierra de su exilio y se acordarán de mi Nombre.	32 But he that knoweth all things, knoweth her, and hath found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for evermore, and filled it with cattle and fourfooted beasts:
33 Se arrepentirán de su obstinación y de sus malas acciones, porque se acordarán de la suerte de sus padres que pecaron contra el Señor .	33 He that sendeth forth light, and it goeth: and hath called it, and it obeyeth him with trembling.
34 Entonces los haré volver a la tierra que juré dar a sus padres, a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, y se adueñarán de ella. Los multiplicaré y ya no disminuirán.	34 And the stars have given light in their watches, and rejoiced:
35 Estableceré para ellos una alianza eterna, para que yo sea su Dios y ellos sean mi Pueblo, y ya no arrojaré más a mi pueblo Israel de la tierra que les he dado».	35 They were called, and they said: Here we are: and with cheerfuIness they have shined forth to him that made them.
	36 This is our God, and there shall no other be accounted of in comparison of him.
	37 He found out all the way of knowledge, and gave it to Jacob his servant, and to Israel his beloved.
	38 Afterwards he was seen upon earth, and conversed with men.
