Jeremías 32

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Palabra que llegó a Jeremías de parte del Señor, el décimo año de Sedecías, rey de Judá, que era el año decimoctavo de Nabucodonosor.	1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which wasthe eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.
2 En ese entonces, el ejército del rey de Babilonia estaba asediando a Jerusalén, y el profeta Jeremías estaba preso en el patio de la guardia, en la casa del rey de Judá.	2 The army of the king of Babylon was then besieging Jerusalem, and the prophet Jeremiah wasconfined in the Court of the Guard in the king of Judah's palace,
3 Allí lo había puesto preso Sedecías, porque profetizaba en estos términos: «Así habla el Señor: Miren que yo voy a entregar esta ciudad en manos del rey de babilonia, y él la tomará;	3 where Zedekiah king of Judah had confined him, saying, 'Why do you keep prophesying like this,"Yahweh says this: I am going to hand this city over to the king of Babylon and he wil capture it;
4 Sedecías no escapará de las manos de los caldeos, sino que caerá en manos del rey de Babilonia; él le hablará cara a cara y lo verá con sus propios ojos;	4 and Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape the clutches of the Chaldaeans, but will certainly behanded over to the king of Babylon, speak to him personally and see him face to face.
5 Sedecías será llevado a Babilonia, y allí permanecerá hasta que yo me ocupe de él –oráculo del Señor–. Si ustedes combaten contra los caldeos, no conseguirán nada».	5 He wil take Zedekiah away to Babylon and there he wil stay (until I attend to him, Yahweh declares. Ifyou fight the Chaldaeans you will not succeed!)" '
6 Jeremías dijo: «La palabra del Señor me llegó en estos términos:	6 Jeremiah said, 'The word of Yahweh has been addressed to me as fol ows,
7 Janamel, hijo de tu tío Salúm, viene hacia ti para decirte: Compra mi campo que está en Anatot, porque a ti te corresponde adquirirlo, en virtud del derecho de rescate».	7 "Look, Hanamel the son of your uncle Shal um wil come to you and say: Buy my field at Anathoth, foryou have the right of redemption to purchase it."
8 Janamel, el hijo de mi tío, vino a verme en el patio de la guardia, según la palabra del Señor, y me dijo: «Cómprame mi campo que está en Anatot, en el país de Benjamín, porque tú tienes el derecho de adquisición y de rescate: cómpramelo». Yo comprendí que esa era la palabra del Señor ;	8 And, as Yahweh had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me, in the Court of the Guard and said, "Buymy field at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin, for you have the right of inheritance and right of redemption; buyit." I knew then that this was Yahweh's order.
9 compré a Janamel, el hijo de mi tío, el campo que está en Anatot, y le pesé la plata: diecisiete siclos de plata.	9 Accordingly, I bought the field from my cousin Hanamel of Anathoth and weighed him out the money:seventeen silver shekels.
10 Hice la escritura, la sellé, la certifiqué con testigos y pesé la plata en una balanza.	10 I drew up the deeds and sealed it, cal ed in witnesses and weighed out the money on the scales.
11 Luego tomé la escritura de la compra –la que había sido sellada, con las cláusulas y las estipulaciones, y la que había quedado abierta –	11 I then took both the sealed deed of purchase (with its stipulations and clauses) and its open copy
12 y la entregué a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, en presencia de Janamel, el hijo de mi tío, en presencia de los testigos que habían firmado la escritura de la compra, y en presencia de todos los judíos que estaban en el patio de la guardia.	12 and handed over the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, in the presence ofmy cousin Hanamel, of the witnesses who had signed the deed of purchase, and of al the Judaeans who thenhappened to be in the Court of the Guard.
13 Luego, a la vista de ellos, di esta orden a Baruc:	13 In their presence I gave Baruch this order,
14 «Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Toma estas escrituras –la que está sellada y la que está abierta– y mételas en una vasija de arcilla, para que se conserven por mucho tiempo.	14 "Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Take these deeds, the sealed deed of purchase and itsopen copy, and put them in an earthenware pot, so that they may be preserved for a long time.
15 Porque así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: De nuevo se comprarán casas, campos y viñas en este país».	15 For Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Houses, fields and vineyards wil again be bought inthis country."
16 Después de entregar la escritura de la compra a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, yo dirigí al Señor esta súplica;	16 'After I had entrusted the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to Yahweh as fol ows,
17 «¡Ah, Señor! Tú has hecho el cielo y la tierra con tu gran fuera y tu brazo poderoso: para ti no hay nada imposible.	17 "Ah, Lord Yahweh, you made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm.To you nothing is impossible.
18 Tú das prueba de fidelidad a millares, y retribuyes la iniquidad de los padres en el pecho de sus hijos después de ellos. ¡Dios grande y fuerte, cuyo nombre es Señor de los ejércitos,	18 You show faithful love to thousands but repay the fathers' guilt in full to their children after them. Greatand mighty God, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth,
19 grande en consejo y poderoso en obras, que tienes los ojos abiertos sobre los caminos de los hombres, para dar a cada uno según su conducta y según el fruto de sus acciones!	19 great in purpose, mighty in deed, whose eyes are open on al human ways, rewarding every individualas that person's ways and actions deserve!
20 Tú has hecho signos y prodigios en el país de Egipto, y también en Israel y entre los hombres hasta el día de hoy, y así te has ganado un renombre, como se ve en el día de hoy.	20 You performed signs and wonders in Egypt, as you stil do in Israel and among humanity today. Youhave won the name for yourself which is yours today.
21 Tú has hecho salir a tu pueblo Israel del país de Egipto, con signos y prodigios, con mano fuerte y brazo poderoso, provocando un gran terror.	21 You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, with mighty hand andoutstretched arm and fearsome terror.
22 Tú les has dado esta tierra, como se lo habías jurado a sus padres, una tierra que mana leche y miel.	22 Then you gave them this country which you had promised on oath to their ancestors, a countryflowing with milk and honey.
23 Pero cuando entraron y tomaron posesión de ella, no escucharon tu voz ni caminaron según tu Ley: no hicieron nada de lo que tú les habías mandado, y tú les enviaste toda esta desgracia.	23 They then entered it, taking possession of it, but they would not listen to your voice nor follow yourLaw: they would do nothing you ordered them to do; and so you made this total disaster befall them.
24 Ahora, los terraplenes llegan hasta la ciudad para expugnarla, y la ciudad va ser entregada, por la espada, el hambre y la peste, en manos de los caldeos que combaten contra ella. Así se ha cumplido lo que tú habías dicho, y tú lo estás viendo.	24 Look! The earthworks are already in place to take the city and, by means of sword, famine andplague, the city is now within the clutches of the Chaldaeans attacking it. What you said has now come true, asyou see.
25 Sin embargo, eres tú el que me ha dicho: «Compra el campo a precio de plata y toma unos testigos», mientras la ciudad es entregada en manos de los caldeos».	25 Yet you yourself, Lord Yahweh, told me: Buy the field, pay for it, have it witnessed although the city isalready in the Chaldaeans' clutches." '
26 La palabra del Señor llegó a Jeremías en estos términos:	26 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,
27 Yo, el Señor, soy el Dios de todo ser viviente: ¿hay algo imposible para mí?	27 'Look, I am Yahweh, God of al humanity. Is anything impossible to me?
28 Por eso, así habla el Señor: Yo voy a entregar esta ciudad en manos de los caldeos y en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y él la tomará.	28 'So, Yahweh says this, "I shal hand this city over to the Chaldaeans and to Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon, and he wil capture it;
29 Los caldeos que combaten contra esta ciudad entrarán en ella, le prenderán fuego y la quemarán, con las casas sobre cuyos techos se quemaba incienso a Baal y se derramaban libaciones a otros dioses, a fin de agraviarme.	29 the Chaldaeans attacking this city wil enter it, fire it and burn it to the ground, with the houses onwhose roofs incense has been offered to Baal and libations poured to other gods, to provoke my anger.
30 Porque los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Judá han hecho desde su juventud lo que es malo a mis ojos; porque los hijos de Israel no han hecho más que agraviarme con la obra de sus manos –oráculo del Señor–.	30 For the people of Israel and Judah alike have done nothing but what displeases me since they wereyoung. (The people of Israel in fact have done nothing but provoke my anger by their actions, Yahweh declares.)
31 Sí, esta ciudad ha sido para mí un motivo de ira y de furor, desde el día en que fue edificada hasta el día de hoy, y yo la apartaré lejos de mi rostro,	31 Yes, from the day when this city was built until today, it has been such cause of anger and wrath tome that I mean to remove it from my sight,
32 a causa de todo el mal que los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Judá han cometido para agraviarme: ellos, sus reyes, sus príncipes, sus sacerdotes y sus profetas, los hombres de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén.	32 on account of al the wickedness the people of Israel and the people of Judah have done to provokemy anger; they, their kings, their chief men, their priests, their prophets, the people of Judah and the inhabitantsof Jerusalem.
33 Ellos me han vuelto la espalda, no el rostro; y aunque traté de enseñarles incansablemente, no han escuchado ni aprendido la lección.	33 They turned to me their backs, never their faces; and though I taught them so urgently, so untiringly,they would not listen and accept correction.
34 Han puesto sus ídolos inmundos en la Casa que es llamada con mi Nombre, para volverla impura.	34 Instead, they set up their Horrors in the Temple that bears my name to defile it,
35 Han edificado los lugares altos de Baal que están en el valle de Ben Hinnóm, para hacer pasar por el fuego en honor de Moloc a sus hijos y a sus hijas, cosas que yo no les había mandado ni se me había pasado por la mente: ¡cometer esta abominación para hacer pecar a Judá!	35 and built the high places of Baal in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom, to burn their sons and daughters alivein honour of Molech: a thing I have never ordered, that had never entered my thoughts -- that they would causeJudah to sin by anything so loathsome!
36 Y ahora, así habla el Señor, el Dios de Israel, a esta ciudad de la que ustedes dicen: «Va a caer en manos del rey de Babilonia, por la espada, el hambre y la peste».	36 "So now, this is what Yahweh, God of Israel, says about this city of which you now say: By means ofsword, famine and plague, it is already within the king of Babylon's clutches:
37 Yo los reuniré de todos los países adonde los había expulsado a causa de mi ira, de mi furor y de mi gran irritación; los haré volver a este lugar y haré que vivan seguros.	37 Look, I shall gather them in from al the countries where I have driven them in my anger, my fury andgreat wrath. I shal bring them back to this place and make them live in safety.
38 Ellos serán mi Pueblo y yo seré su Dios.	38 Then they will be my people, and I shall be their God.
39 Les daré un corazón íntegro y una conducta íntegra, a fin de que me teman constantemente, para su propia felicidad y la de sus hijos después de ellos.	39 I shal give them singleness of heart and singleness of conduct so that they wil always fear me, fortheir own good and that of their children after them.
40 Estableceré con ellos una alianza eterna, por la cual nunca dejaré de seguirlos para hacerles el bien, y pondré mi temor en sus corazones, para que nunca se aparten de mí.	40 I shal make an everlasting covenant with them, never to cease in my efforts for their welfare, and Ishall put respect for me in their hearts, so that they wil never turn away from me again.
41 Mi alegría será colmarlos de bienes, y los plantaré sólidamente en este país, con todo mi corazón y con toda mi alma.	41 My joy wil lie in them and in doing them good, and I shal plant them firmly in this country, with al myheart and soul.
42 Porque así habla el Señor: Así como atraje sobre este país toda esta gran desgracia, así también atraeré sobre ellos todo el bien que les prometo.	42 For Yahweh says this: Just as I have brought this complete and total disaster on this people, so I shalbring them al the good things I have promised them.
43 Entonces se comprarán campos en este país del que ustedes dicen: «Es un país desolado, sin hombres ni animales, que va a caer en manos de los caldeos».	43 Fields wil again be bought in this country of which you now say: It is a wasteland without human oranimal, already in the clutches of the Chaldaeans.
44 Se comprarán campos a precio de plata, se firmarán escrituras, se las sellará, se pondrán testigos en el país de Benjamín, en los alrededores de Jerusalén, en todas las ciudades de Judá, en las ciudades de la Montaña, en las ciudades de la Sefelá y en las ciudades del Négueb. Porque yo cambiaré su suerte –oráculo del Señor–.	44 People wil buy fields, pay money, draw up deeds, seal them and have them witnessed in the territoryof Benjamin, in the districts round Jerusalem, in the towns of Judah, of the highlands, of the lowlands and of theNegeb. For I shal bring back their captives, Yahweh declares." '
