EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Palabras de Jeremías, hijo de Jilquías, uno de los sacerdotes de Anatot, en territorio de Benjamín.	1 The words of Jeremiah, son of Hilkiah, of a priestly family in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin.
2 La palabra del Señor le llegó en los días de Josías, hijo de Amón, rey de Judá, en el año decimotercero de su reinado;	2 The word of the LORD first came to him in the days of Josiah, son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign,
3 y también en los días de Joaquím, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, hasta el fin del undécimo año de Sedecías, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, es decir, hasta la deportación de Jerusalén en el quinto mes.	3 and continued through the reign of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah, and until the downfall and exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, son of Josiah, king of Judah.
4 La palabra del Señor llegó a mí en estos términos:	4 The word of the LORD came to me thus:
5 «Antes de formarte en el vientre materno, yo te conocía; antes de que salieras del seno, yo te había consagrado, te había constituido profeta para las naciones».	5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.
6 Yo respondí: «¡Ah, Señor! Mira que no sé hablar, porque soy demasiado joven».	6 "Ah, Lord GOD!" I said, "I know not how to speak; I am too young."
7 El Señor me dijo: «No digas: «Soy demasiado joven», porque tú irás adonde yo te envíe y dirás todo lo que yo te ordene.	7 But the LORD answered me, Say not, "I am too young." To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak.
8 No temas delante de ellos, porque yo estoy contigo para librarte –oráculo del Señor –».	8 Have no fear before them, because I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.
9 El Señor extendió su mano, tocó mi boca y me dijo: «Yo pongo mis palabras en tu boca.	9 Then the LORD extended his hand and touched my mouth, saying, See, I place my words in your mouth!
10 Yo te establezco en este día sobre las naciones y sobre los reinos, para arrancar y derribar, para perder y demoler, para edificar y plantar».	10 This day I set you over nations and over kingdoms, To root up and to tear down, to destroy and to demolish, to build and to plant.
11 La palabra del Señor llegó a mí en estos términos: «¿Qué ves, Jeremías?». Yo respondí: «Veo una rama de almendro».	11 The word of the LORD came to me with the question: What do you see, Jeremiah? "I see a branch of the watching-tree," I replied.
12 Entonces el Señor me dijo: «Has visto bien, porque yo vigilo sobre mi palabra para realizarla».	12 Then the LORD said to me: Well have you seen, for I am watching to fulfill my word.
13 La palabra del Señor llegó a mí por segunda vez, en estos términos: «¿Qué ves?». Yo respondí: «Veo una olla hirviendo, que se vuelca desde el Norte».	13 A second time the word of the LORD came to me with the question: What do you see? "I see a boiling cauldron," I replied, "that appears from the north."
14 Entonces el Señor me dijo: «Del Norte se desencadenará la desgracia contra todos los habitantes del país.	14 And from the north, said the LORD to me, evil will boil over upon all who dwell in the land.
15 Porque ahora voy a convocar a todas las familias de los reinos del Norte –oráculo del Señor–. Ellos vendrán, y cada uno instalará su trono a la entrada de las puertas de Jerusalén, contra todos los muros que la rodean y contra todas las ciudades de Judá.	15 Lo, I am summoning all the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD; Each king shall come and set up his throne at the gateways of Jerusalem, Opposite her walls all around and opposite all the cities of Judah.
16 Pronunciaré mis sentencias contra ellos, por todas sus maldades, porque me han abandonado, han quemado incienso a dioses extraños, y se han postrado ante las obras de sus manos.	16 I will pronounce my sentence against them for all their wickedness in forsaking me, And in burning incense to strange gods and adoring their own handiwork.
17 En cuanto a ti, cíñete la cintura, levántate y diles todo lo que yo te ordene. No te dejes intimidar por ellos, no sea que te intimide yo delante de ellos.	17 But do you gird your loins; stand up and tell them all that I command you. Be not crushed on their account, as though I would leave you crushed before them;
18 Mira que hoy hago de ti una plaza fuerte, una columna de hierro, una muralla de bronce, frente a todo el país: frente a los reyes de Judá y a sus jefes, a sus sacerdotes y al pueblo del país.	18 For it is I this day who have made you a fortified city, A pillar of iron, a wall of brass, against the whole land: Against Judah's kings and princes, against its priests and people.
19 Ellos combatirán contra ti, pero no te derrotarán, porque yo estoy contigo para librarte –oráculo del Señor –».	19 They will fight against you, but not prevail over you, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.
