EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Cuando el hijo de Saúl se enteró de que Abner había muerto en Hebrón, quedó muy desalentado, y todo Israel fue presa del pánico.	1 When Saul's son heard that Abner had died at Hebron, his heart failed him, and al Israel was alarmed.
2 Ahora bien, el hijo de Saúl tenía dos jefes de bandas armadas; uno se llamaba Baaná y el otro Recab, hijos de Rimón de Beerot, y eran benjaminitas, porque a Beerot también se la consideraba parte de Benjamín.	2 Now, Saul's son had two freebooting chieftains; one was cal ed Baanah, the other Rechab. They werethe sons of Rimmon of Beeroth, and Benjaminites -- for Beeroth is regarded as belonging to Benjamin.
3 Los de Beerot habían huido a Guitaim, y allí han residido como forasteros hasta el día de hoy.	3 The people of Beeroth had taken refuge in Gittaim, where they have remained to this day as residentforeigners.
4 Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, tenía un hijo lisiado de ambos pies. Este era un niño de cinco años cuando llegó a Izreel la noticia de la muerte de Saúl y Jonatán. Su niñera lo tomó consigo y huyó; pero lo hizo con tanta precipitación, que el niño se cayó y quedó rengo. Su nombre era Meribaal.	4 Jonathan son of Saul had a son with crippled feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul andJonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled but, as she hurried away, he fel and was lamed.His name was Meribbaal.
5 Recab y Baaná, los hijos de Rimón de Beerot, se pusieron en camino, y a la hora de más calor llegaron a la casa de Isbaal, que estaba durmiendo la siesta.	5 The sons of Rimmon of Beeroth, Rechab and Baanah, set out; they came to Ishbaal's house at thehottest part of the day when he was taking his midday rest.
6 Se introdujeron en el interior de la casa, como si estuvieran llevando trigo, e hirieron a Isbaal en el bajo vientre. Luego se pusieron a salvo.	6 The woman who kept the door had been cleaning wheat and had drowsed off to sleep.
7 Al entrar en la casa, mientras Isbaal estaba acostado en el lecho de su dormitorio, Recab y su hermano Baaná lo habían herido mortalmente y le habían cortado la cabeza. Después se llevaron la cabeza y marcharon toda la noche por el camino de la Arabá.	7 Rechab and his brother Baanah stole past her and entered the house, where he was lying on his bed inhis bedroom. They struck him and kil ed him, then cut off his head and, taking the head with them, travel ed alnight by way of the Arabah.
8 Así presentaron a David, en Hebrón, la cabeza de Isbaal y dijeron al rey: «Aquí está la cabeza de Isbaal, hijo de Saúl, tu enemigo, el que intentó matarte. El Señor ha permitido hoy que mi señor, el rey, se vengara de Saúl y de su descendencia».	8 They brought Ishbaal's head to David at Hebron. 'Here', they said to the king, 'is the head of Ishbaalson of Saul, your enemy, who meant to take your life. Yahweh has avenged my lord the king today on Saul andon his offspring.'
9 Pero David respondió a Recab y a su hermano Baaná, los hijos de Rimón de Beerot: «¡Por la vida del Señor, que me libró de todo peligro!	9 But David answered Rechab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon, by saying, 'As Yahwehlives, who has rescued me from every danger,
10 Al que me anunció que había muerto Saúl, creyendo ser portador de una buena noticia, lo tomé y lo ajusticié en Siquelag, pagándole así esa buena noticia.	10 when someone told me, "Saul is dead!" supposing himself to be bringing me good news, I seized andput him to death at Ziklag, and that was how I rewarded him for his news!
11 Con mucha más razón, ahora que unos hombres malvados han matado a un inocente en su propia casa y sobre su lecho, ¿no tendré que pedirles cuenta de su sangre y borrarlos de la tierra?».	11 How much more when bandits have kil ed an upright man in his house, and on his bed! Am I not todemand an account of his blood from you, and rid the earth of you?'
12 Entonces David dio una orden a los jóvenes, y ellos los mataron. Luego les cortaron las manos y los pies, y los colgaron junto a la cisterna de Hebrón. En cuanto a la cabeza de Isbaal, la recogieron y la enterraron en la tumba de Abner, en Hebrón.	12 David then gave an order to the men, who put them to death, cut off their hands and feet, and hungthem up beside the pool of Hebron. Ishbaal's head they took and buried in Abner's grave at Hebron.
