EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Después de estos acontecimientos, el copero y el panadero del rey de Egipto ofendieron a su señor.	1 It happened some time later that the king of Egypt's cup-bearer and his baker offended their masterthe king of Egypt.
2 El Faraón se irritó contra sus dos funcionarios –el copero mayor y el panadero mayor–	2 Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,
3 y los hizo poner bajo custodia en la casa del capitán de guardias, en la misma cárcel donde estaba preso José.	3 and put them in custody in the house of the commander of the guard, in the gaol where Joseph was aprisoner.
4 El capitán de guardias encargó a José que se ocupara de servirlos, y así estuvieron arrestados durante un tiempo.	4 The commander of the guard assigned Joseph to them to attend to their wants, and they remained incustody for some time.
5 Una vez, mientras estaban presos en la cárcel, el copero y el panadero del rey de Egipto tuvieron un sueño en el transcurso de una misma noche, cada sueño con su significado propio.	5 Now both of them had dreams on the same night, each with its own meaning for the cup-bearer andthe baker of the king of Egypt, who were prisoners in the gaol.
6 A la mañana siguiente, cuando José fue a verlos, los encontró deprimidos.	6 When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they looked gloomy,
7 «¿Por qué están hoy con la cara triste?», preguntó a los funcionarios del Faraón que estaban arrestados con él en la casa de su señor.	7 and he asked the two officials who were in custody with him in his master's house, 'Why these sadlooks today?'
8 Ellos le respondieron: «Hemos tenido un sueño, y aquí no hay nadie que lo interprete». José les dijo: «La interpretación es obra de Dios; pero de todos modos cuéntenme lo que soñaron».	8 They replied, 'We have each had a dream, but there is no one to interpret it.' 'Are not interpretationsGod's business?' Joseph asked them. 'Tel me about them.'
9 El copero relató su sueño a José. «Yo soñé, le dijo que delante de mí había una vid,	9 So the chief cup-bearer described his dream to Joseph, tel ing him, 'In my dream there was a vine infront of me.
10 y en ella, tres sarmientos. Apenas la vid dio brotes, salieron sus flores y maduraron las uvas en los racimos.	10 On the vine were three branches; no sooner had it budded than it blossomed, and its clustersbecame ripe grapes.
11 La copa del faraón estaba en mi mano: yo tomé las uvas, las exprimí en esa copa, y la puse en la mano del Faraón».	11 I had Pharaoh's cup in my hand; I picked the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup, and putthe cup into Pharaoh's hand.'
12 José le dijo: «La interpretación es la siguiente: los tres racimos representan tres días,	12 'This is what it means,' Joseph told him. 'The three branches are three days.
13 Dentro de tres días, el Faraón te indultará, te restituirá a tu cargo, y tú pondrás la copa en su mano, como acostumbrabas a hacerlo antes, cuando eras su copero.	13 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by restoring you to your position. Then you wilhand Pharaoh his cup, as you did before, when you were his cup-bearer.
14 Y cuando mejore tu suerte, si todavía recuerdas que yo estuve aquí contigo, no dejes de hacerme este favor: háblale de mí al Faraón, y trata de sacarme de este lugar.	14 But be sure to remember me when things go wel with you, and keep faith with me by kindlyreminding Pharaoh about me, to get me out of this house.
15 Porque yo fui traído por la fuerza del país de los hebreos, y aquí no hice nada para que me pusieran en la cárcel».	15 I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews in the first place, and even here I have done nothingto warrant being put in the dungeon.'
16 El panadero mayor, al ver con qué acierto había interpretado el sueño, dijo a José: «Yo, por mi parte, soñé que tenía sobre mi cabeza tres canastas de mimbre.	16 The chief baker, seeing that the interpretation had been favourable, said to Joseph, 'I too had adream; there were three wicker trays on my head.
17 En la canasta más elevada, había de todos los productos de panadería que come el Faraón, y los pájaros comían de esa canasta que estaba encima de mi cabeza».	17 In the top tray there were al kinds of pastries for Pharaoh, such as a baker might make, and thebirds were eating them off the tray on my head.'
18 José le respondió: «La interpretación es la siguiente: las tres canastas representan tres días.	18 Joseph replied as fol ows, 'This is what it means: the three trays are three days.
19 Dentro de tres días el Faraón te hará decapitar, te colgará de un poste, y los pájaros comerán tu carne».	19 In another three days Pharaoh wil lift up your head by hanging you on a gallows, and the birds willeat the flesh off your bones.'
20 Efectivamente, al tercer día se festejaba el cumpleaños del Faraón, y este agasajó con un banquete a todos sus servidores. Entonces reconsideró las causas del copero mayor y del panadero mayor en medio de sus servidores,	20 And so it happened; the third day was Pharaoh's birthday and he gave a banquet for al his officials.Of his officials he lifted up the head of the chief cup-bearer and the chief baker,
21 y restituyó en su cargo al copero mayor, de manera que este volvió a poner la copa en la mano del Faraón;	21 the chief cup-bearer by restoring him to his cup-bearing, so that he again handed Pharaoh his cup;
22 en cambio, mandó colgar al panadero mayor, conforme a la interpretación que les había dado José.	22 and by hanging the chief baker, as Joseph had explained to them.
23 Sin embargo, el copero mayor ya no pensó más en José, sino que se olvidó de él.	23 But the chief cup-bearer did not remember Joseph; he had forgotten him.
