1 La serpiente era el más astuto de todos los animales del campo que el Señor Dios había hecho, y dijo a la mujer: «¿Así que Dios les ordenó que no comieran de ningún árbol del jardín?».	1 However, the serpent was more crafty than any of the creatures of the earth that the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Why has God instructed you, that you should not eat from every tree of Paradise?”
2 La mujer le respondió: «Podemos comer los frutos de todos los árboles del jardín.	2 The woman responded to him: “From the fruit of the trees which are in Paradise, we eat.
3 Pero respecto del árbol que está en medio del jardín, Dios nos ha dicho: «No coman de él ni lo toquen, porque de lo contrario quedarán sujetos a la muerte».	3 Yet truly, from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of Paradise, God has instructed us that we should not eat, and that we should not touch it, lest perhaps we may die.”
4 La serpiente dijo a la mujer: «No, no morirán.	4 Then the serpent said to the woman: “By no means will you die a death.
5 Dios sabe muy bien que cuando ustedes coman de ese árbol, se les abrirán los ojos y serán como dioses, conocedores del bien y del mal».	5 For God knows that, on whatever day you will eat from it, your eyes will be opened; and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.”
6 Cuando la mujer vio que el árbol era apetitoso para comer, agradable a la vista y deseable para adquirir discernimiento, tomó de su fruto y comió; luego se lo dio a su marido, que estaba con ella, y él también comió.	6 And so the woman saw that the tree was good to eat, and beautiful to the eyes, and delightful to consider. And she took from its fruit, and she ate. And she gave to her husband, who ate.
7 Entonces se abrieron los ojos de los dos y descubrieron que estaban desnudos. Por eso se hicieron unos taparrabos, entretejiendo hojas de higuera.	7 And the eyes of them both were opened. And when they realized themselves to be naked, they joined together fig leaves and made coverings for themselves.
8 Al oír la voz del Señor Dios que se paseaba por el jardín, a la hora en que sopla la brisa, se ocultaron de él, entre los árboles del jardín.	8 And when they had heard the voice of the Lord God taking a walk in Paradise in the afternoon breeze, Adam and his wife hid themselves from the face of the Lord God in the midst of the trees of Paradise.
9 Pero el Señor Dios llamó al hombre y le dijo: «¿Dónde estás?».	9 And the Lord God called Adam and said to him: “Where are you?”
10 «Oí tus pasos por el jardín, respondió él, y tuve miedo porque estaba desnudo. Por eso me escondí».	10 And he said, “I heard your voice in Paradise, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and so I hid myself.”
11 El replicó: «¿Y quién te dijo que estabas desnudo? ¿Acaso has comido del árbol que yo te prohibí?».	11 He said to him, “Then who told you that you were naked, if you have not eaten of the tree from which I instructed you that you should not eat?”
12 El hombre respondió: «La mujer que pusiste a mi lado me dio el fruto y yo comí de él».	12 And Adam said, “The woman, whom you gave to me as a companion, gave to me from the tree, and I ate.”
13 El Señor Dios dijo a la mujer: «¿Cómo hiciste semejante cosa?». La mujer respondió: «La serpiente me sedujo y comí».	13 And the Lord God said to the woman, “Why have you done this?” And she responded, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 Y el Señor Dios dijo a la serpiente: «Por haber hecho esto, maldita seas entre todos los animales domésticos y entre todos los animales del campo. Te arrastrarás sobre tu vientre, y comerás polvo todos los días de tu vida.	14 And the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you are cursed among all living things, even the wild beasts of the earth. Upon your breast shall you travel, and the ground shall you eat, all the days of your life.
15 Pondré enemistad entre ti y la mujer, entre tu linaje y el suyo. El te aplastará la cabeza y tú le acecharás el talón».	15 I will put enmities between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. She will crush your head, and you will lie in wait for her heel.”
16 Y el Señor Dios dijo a la mujer: «Multiplicaré los sufrimientos de tus embarazos; darás a luz a tus hijos con dolor. Sentirás atracción por tu marido, y él te dominará».	16 To the woman, he also said: “I will multiply your labors and your conceptions. In pain shall you give birth to sons, and you shall be under your husband’s power, and he shall have dominion over you.”
17 Y dijo al hombre: «Porque hiciste caso a tu mujer y comiste del árbol que yo te prohibí, maldito sea el suelo por tu culpa. Con fatiga sacarás de él tu alimento todos los días de tu vida.	17 Yet truly, to Adam, he said: “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, from which I instructed you that you should not eat, cursed is the land that you work. In hardship shall you eat from it, all the days of your life.
18 El te producirá cardos y espinas y comerás la hierba del campo.	18 Thorns and thistles shall it produce for you, and you shall eat the plants of the earth.
19 Ganarás el pan con el sudor de tu frente, hasta que vuelvas a la tierra, de donde fuiste sacado. ¡Porque eres polvo y al polvo volverás!».	19 By the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, until you return to the earth from which you were taken. For dust you are, and unto dust you shall return.”
20 El hombre dio a su mujer el nombre de Eva, por ser ella la madre de todos los vivientes	20 And Adam called the name of his wife, ‘Eve,’ because she was the mother of all the living.
21 El Señor Dios hizo al hombre y a su mujer unas túnicas de pieles y los vistió.	21 The Lord God also made for Adam and his wife garments from skins, and he clothed them.
22 Después el Señor Dios dijo: «El hombre ha llegado a ser como uno de nosotros en el conocimiento del bien y del mal. No vaya a ser que ahora extienda su mano, tome también del árbol de la vida, coma y viva para siempre».	22 And he said: “Behold, Adam has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Therefore, now perhaps he may put forth his hand and also take from the tree of life, and eat, and live in eternity.”
23 Entonces expulsó al hombre del jardín de Edén, para que trabajara la tierra de la que había sido sacado.	23 And so the Lord God sent him away from the Paradise of enjoyment, in order to work the earth from which he was taken.
24 Y después de expulsar al hombre, puso al oriente del jardín de Edén a los querubines y la llama de la espada zigzagueante, para custodiar el acceso al árbol de la vida.	24 And he cast out Adam. And in front of the Paradise of enjoyment, he placed the Cherubim with a flaming sword, turning together, to guard the way to the tree of life.
