1 Guarda, hijo mío, mis palabras, conserva como un tesoro mis mandatos. | 1 My son, guard my words and conceal my precepts within you. |
2 Guarda mis mandamientos y vivirás; sea mi lección como la niña de tus ojos. | 2 Son, preserve my commandments, and you shall live. And keep my law as the pupil of your eye. |
3 Atalos a tus dedos, escríbelos en la tablilla de tu corazón. | 3 Bind it with your fingers; write it on the tablets of your heart. |
4 Dile a la sabiduría: «Tú eres mi hermana», llama pariente a la inteligencia, | 4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call prudence your friend. |
5 para que te guarde de la mujer ajena, de la extraña de palabras melosas. | 5 So may she guard you from the woman who is an outsider, and from the stranger who sweetens her words. |
6 Estaba yo a la ventana de mi casa y miraba a través de las celosías, | 6 For I gaze from the window of my house, through the lattice, |
7 cuando ví, en el grupo de los simples, distinguí entre los muchachos a un joven falto de juicio: | 7 and I see little ones. I consider a frenzied youth, |
8 pasaba por la calle, junto a la esquina donde ella vivía, iba camino de su casa, | 8 who crosses the street at the corner and close to the way of that house. |
9 al atardecer, ya oscurecido, en lo negro de la noche y de las sombras. | 9 He steps into shadows, as day becomes evening, into the darkness and gloom of the night. |
10 De repente, le sale al paso una mujer, con atavío de ramera y astucia en el corazón. | 10 And behold, a woman meets him, dressed like a harlot, prepared to captivate souls: chattering and rambling, |
11 Es alborotada y revoltosa, sus pies nunca paran en su casa. | 11 unwilling to bear silence, unable to keep her feet at home, |
12 Tan pronto en las calles como en las plazas, acecha por todas las esquinas. | 12 now outside, now in the streets, now lying in ambush near the corners. |
13 Ella lo agarró y lo abrazó, y desvergonzada le dijo: | 13 And overtaking the youth, she kisses him, and with a provocative face, she flatters him, saying: |
14 «Tenía que ofrecer un sacrificio de comunión y hoy he cumplido mi voto; | 14 “I vowed sacrifices for well-being. Today I have repaid my vows. |
15 por eso he salido a tu encuentro para buscarte en seguida; y va te he encontrado. | 15 Because of this, I have gone out to meet you, desiring to see you, and I have found you. |
16 He puesto en mi lecho cobertores policromos, lencería de Egipto, | 16 I have woven my bed with cords. I have strewn it with embroidered tapestries from Egypt. |
17 con mirra mi cama he rociado, con áloes y cinamomo. | 17 I have sprinkled my bed with myrrh, aloe, and cinnamon. |
18 Ven, embriaguémonos de amores hasta la mañana, solacémonos los dos, entre caricias. | 18 Come, let us be inebriated in abundance, and let us delight in the embraces of desire, until the day begins to dawn. |
19 Porque no está el marido en casa, está de viaje muy lejos; | 19 For my husband is not in his house. He has gone away on a very long journey. |
20 ha llevado en su mano la bolsa del dinero, volverá a casa para la luna llena». | 20 He took with him a bag of money. He will return to his house on the day of the full moon.” |
21 Con sus muchas artes lo seduce, lo rinde con el halago de sus labios. | 21 She enmeshed him with many words, and she drew him forward with the flattery of her lips. |
22 Se va tras ella en seguida, como buey al matadero, como el ciervo atrapado en el cepo, | 22 Immediately, he follows her, like an ox being led to the sacrifice, and like a lamb acting lasciviously, and not knowing that he is being drawn foolishly into chains, |
23 hasta que una flecha le atraviese el hígado; como pájaro que se precipita en la red, sin saber que le va en ello la vida. | 23 until the arrow pierces his liver. It is just as if a bird were to hurry into the snare. And he does not know that his actions endanger his own soul. |
24 Ahora pues, hijo mío, escúchame, pon atención a las palabras de mi boca: | 24 Therefore, my son, hear me now, and attend to the words of my mouth. |
25 no se desvíe tu corazón hacia sus caminos, no te descarríes por sus senderos, | 25 Do not let your mind be pulled into her ways. And do not be deceived by her paths. |
26 porque a muchos ha hecho caer muertos, robustos eran todos los que ella mató. | 26 For she has tossed aside many wounded, and some of those who were very strong have been slain by her. |
27 Su morada es camino del seol, que baja hacia las cámaras de la muerte. | 27 Her household is the way to Hell, reaching even to the inner places of death. |
