1 In quello medesimo tempo chiamò Iosuè i figliuoli di Ruben e di Gad e la metà della schiatta di Manasse.	1 At that time Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh
2 E disse loro: voi avete fatto ogni cosa che vi comandò Moisè servo di Dio; e ancora a me avete obbedito in tutte le cose.	2 and said to them: "You have done all that Moses, the servant of the LORD, commanded you, and have obeyed every command I gave you.
3 E non avete già lungo tempo abbandonati i vostri fratelli insino al dì d' oggi, servando il comandamento di Dio vostro.	3 For many years now you have not once abandoned your kinsmen, but have faithfully carried out the commands of the LORD, your God.
4 E imperciò che Dio nostro Signore ha dato pace e riposo a' vostri fratelli, sì come promise; andate e tornate ne' vostri tabernacoli e abitazioni, e nella terra della vostra possessione, la quale vi diede Moisè servo di Dio di là dal (fiume) Giordano;	4 Since, therefore, the LORD, your God, has settled your kinsmen as he promised them, you may now return to your tents beyond the Jordan; to your own land, which Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave you.
5 ma a questi patti: cioè che voi serviate diligentemente e compiate coll' opera il comandamento e la legge di Dio, la quale ne comandò Moisè servo di Dio, e che voi amiate Iddio vostro Signore, e andiate per tutte le sue vie, e serviate i suoi comandamenti, e sì gli vi accostiate, e sì gli serviate con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima vostra.	5 But be very careful to observe the precept and law which Moses, the servant of the LORD, enjoined upon you: love the LORD, your God; follow him faithfully; keep his commandments; remain loyal to him; and serve him with your whole heart and soul."
6 E benedissegli Iosuè, e sì gli lasciò andare; i quali tornarono nelli loro tabernacoli (e abitazioni).	6 Joshua then blessed them and sent them away to their own tents.
7 Ma alla metà della schiatta di Manasse avea data Moisè la possessione in Basan; e imperciò all'altra metà, che soperchiò, diede Iosuè la sorte tra i loro fratelli di là dal (fiume) Giordano dalla parte dell' occidente. E lasciandoli andare alli loro tabernacoli (e le loro abitazioni), sì gli benedisse.	7 (For, to half the tribe of Manasseh Moses had assigned land in Bashan; and to the other half Joshua had given a portion along with their kinsmen west of the Jordan.) What Joshua said to them when he sent them off to their tents with his blessing was,
8 E disse loro: con molta sostanza e ricchezza ritornate alle vostre case, con argento, oro e metallo, e ferro e molte vestimenta; onde dividete la preda, la quale avete avuta da' vostri nemici, con li vostri fratelli.	8 "Now that you are returning to your own tents with great wealth, with very numerous livestock, with silver, gold, bronze and iron, and with a very large supply of clothing, divide these spoils of your enemies with your kinsmen there."
9 E ritornarono e andàrsene i figliuoli di Ruben e li figliuoli di Gad e i figliuoli della mezza schiatta di Manasse, dagli altri figliuoli d' Israel di Silo, la quale sì è posta (ed edificata) in Canaan, acciò che entrassero in Galaad, nella terra della loro possessione, la quale aveano avuta secondo il comandamento di Dio, il quale fece in mano di Moisè.	9 So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the other Israelites at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and returned to the land of Gilead, their own property, which they had received according to the LORD'S command through Moses.
10 E vegnendo a' monticelli del (fiume) Giordano nella terra di Canaan, edificàrno a lato del (fiume) Giordano uno altare d'infinita (altezza e) grandezza.	10 When the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh came to the region of the Jordan in the land of Canaan, they built there at the Jordan a conspicuously large altar.
11 La quale cosa udendo gli altri figliuoli d' Israel, e fosse loro da veri messaggi notificato, che aveano edificato i figliuoli (d' Israel, della schiatta) di Ruben e di Gad e della [mezza] schiatta di Manasse, uno altare nella terra di Canaan sopra le ripe del (fiume) Giordano, verso i figliuoli d' Israel;	11 The other Israelites heard the report that the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had built an altar in the region of the Jordan facing the land of Canaan, across from them,
12 tutti si raunarono in Silo, acciò che andassono suso, e combattessero contro a loro.	12 and therefore they assembled their whole community at Shiloh to declare war on them.
13 E in questo mezzo mandarono a loro nella terra di Galaad (e sì dissero loro: questo vi manda a dire tutto il popolo di Dio Signore. E furono gli ambasciadori costoro cioè) Finees figliuolo di Eleazaro (sommo) sacerdote,	13 First, however, they sent to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead an embassy consisting of Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest,
14 e dieci principi con lui, ciascuni di ciascune ischiatte.	14 and ten princes, one from every tribe of Israel, each one being both prince and military leader of his ancestral house.
15 I quali si vennero ai figliuoli di Ruben e di Gad in Galaad, ed alla metà della schiatta di Manasse, e dissono:	15 When these came to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead, they said to them:
16 Questo vi manda a dire tutto il popolo di Dio: Che trasgressione è questa? Perchè avete voi abbandonato Iddio Signore d' Israel, edificandovi l'altare del sacrilegio, e partendovi dal suo servigio (dell' altare dove dovete lui adorare)?	16 "The whole community of the LORD sends this message: What act of treachery is this you have committed against the God of Israel? You have seceded from the LORD this day, and rebelled against him by building an altar of your own!
17 Parvi avere fatto poco, che voi peccaste in Beelfegor? Ed è rimasta insino al dì d' oggi la macchia di quello peccato; e però assai ne furono morti (per quello medesimo peccato).	17 For the sin of Peor, a plague came upon the community of the LORD.
18 E voi oggi avete lasciato Iddio vostro Signore; e domani verrà l'ira sua crudelmente sopra tutto il popolo d' Israel.	18 We are still not free of that; must you now add to it? You are rebelling against the LORD today and by tomorrow he will be angry with the whole community of Israel!
19 Ma se così è che voi crediate che sia immonda la terra della vostra possessione, passate (e venite) nella terra dove è il tabernacolo di Dio, e abitate fra noi, sì che voi non vì partiate dal Signore e dal nostro consorzio, avendo edificato uno altare oltre l'altare del nostro Signore Iddio.	19 If you consider the land you now possess unclean, cross over to the land the LORD possesses, where the Dwelling of the LORD stands, and share that with us. But do not rebel against the LORD, nor involve us in rebellion, by building an altar of your own in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God.
20 Or non preterì Acan figliuolo di Zare il comandamento del Signore, e l'ira sua venne sopra tutto Israel? E lui era uno uomo; e fosse stato così, ch' egli solo fosse perito nella sua sceleraggine!	20 When Achan, son of Zerah, violated the ban, did not wrath fall upon the entire community of Israel? Though he was but a single man, he did not perish alone for his guilt!"
21 Respuoseno i figliuoli di Ruben e di Gad e della mezza tribù di Manasse alli principi della legazione d' Israel:	21 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the military leaders of the Israelites: "The LORD is the God of gods.
22 Signore Iddio fortissimo, elli sa, ed elli insieme l'intende con Israel; se noi con animo di trapassare il comandamento e la legge di Dio edificammo questo altare, non ci guardi, ma puniscaci nel dì d'oggi presente;	22 The LORD, the God of gods, knows and Israel shall know. If now we have acted out of rebellion or treachery against the LORD, our God,
23 e se ancora il facemmo con intenzione, acciò che noi facessimo suso offerte di sacrifizio e sacrifizii, esso il cerchi e giùdichilo;	23 and if we have built an altar of our own to secede from the LORD, or to offer holocausts, grain offerings or peace offerings upon it, the LORD himself will exact the penalty.
24 e se noi non lo facemmo più tosto, e questo fue il nostro pensiero e il nostro rispetto (e a ciò l' ordinassimo): dimane diranno i figliuoli vostri a' nostri figliuoli: che avete a fare voi (con noi e) con Iddio d'Israel?	24 We did it rather out of our anxious concern lest in the future your children should say to our children: 'What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?
25 Ecco che Iddio ha posto il termine tra noi e voi, figliuoli di Ruben e figliuoli di Gad, il (fiume) Giordano, (non avete a fare nulla con noi); e imperciò non avrete parte nel nostro Iddio. Per questa cagione rimoveranno i vostri figliuoli i nostri del timore (e della riverenza) di Dio. E imperciò pensammo che fosse il meglio;	25 For the LORD has placed the Jordan as a boundary between you and us. You descendants of Reuben and Gad have no share in the LORD.' Thus your children would prevent ours from revering the LORD.
26 e dicemmo: facciamo noi uno altare, non per sacrifizio, non per offerta (o riverenza) alcuna,	26 So we decided to guard our interests by building this altar of our own: not for holocausts or for sacrifices,
27 ma perchè sia testimonio tra noi e voi, e la nostra famiglia e la vostra gente e la vostra generazione, acciò che noi serviamo a Dio, e che di nostra ragione sie di offerire sacrifizio coll' olocausto, e ostie di pace (e solennitade); e non possano dire nè domani nè posdì i vostri figliuoli: voi non avete parte in Dio nostro Signore.	27 but as evidence for you on behalf of ourselves and our descendants, that we have the right to worship the LORD in his presence with our holocausts, sacrifices, and peace offerings. Now in the future your children cannot say to our children, 'You have no share in the LORD.'
28 E se pure lo vorranno dire, egli risponderanno loro: ecco l'altare di Dio, che fecero i nostri padri, non per offerirvi suso o per farvi sacrifizio, ma per nostro testimonio e vostro.	28 Our thought was, that if in the future they should speak thus to us or to our descendants, we could answer: 'Look at the model of the altar of the LORD which our fathers made, not for holocausts or for sacrifices, but to witness between you and us.'
29 Partisi da noi questo peccato iscelerato, cioè che noi ci partiamo da Dio Signore, e che noi non seguitiamo i suoi vestigii (e la sua volontà, fatto ed) edificato l'altare per fare sacrificio e offerte e solennitadi, fuori che nell' altare di Dio nostro Signore, il quale sì è (fatto ed) edificato dinanzi al suo tabernacolo.	29 Far be it from us to rebel against the LORD or to secede now from the LORD by building an altar for holocaust, grain offering, or sacrifice in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God, which stands before his Dwelling."
30 Le quali cose avendo udite Finees prete, e i principi (e ambasciatori) della ambasciata (de' figliuoli) d' Israel i quali erano con lui, furono pacificati; e molto volontieri ricevettero le parole de' figliuoli di Ruben e di Gad e della mezza schiatta di Manasse.	30 When Phinehas the priest and the princes of the community, the military leaders of the Israelites, heard what the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites had to say, they were satisfied.
31 E disse Finees figliuolo di Eleazaro (sommo) sacerdote a loro: ora cognosciamo che Iddio Signore si è con noi, imperciò che siete innocenti di questo trapassamento, e avete liberati i figliuoli d' Israel della mano (e dell' ira) di Dio.	31 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, said to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites, "Now we know that the LORD is with us. Since you have not committed this act of treachery against the LORD, you have kept the Israelites free from punishment by the LORD."
32 E ritornò coi principi (e partissi) da' figliuoli di Ruben e da quelli di Gad (e dalla metà de' figliuoli della schiatta di Manasse) della terra di Galaad dei confini di Canaan; e andàrsene ai figliuoli d'Israel, e sì riportarono quello che aveano detto.	32 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes returned from the Reubenites and the Gadites in the land of Gilead to the Israelites in the land of Canaan, and reported the matter to them.
33 E piacquero le parole a tutti coloro i quali le udirono. E lodarono Iddio i figliuoli d' Israel, e poi non dissero più d'andare contro a loro, e di combattere, e di spegnere la terra della loro possessione.	33 The report satisfied the Israelites, who blessed God and decided against declaring war on the Reubenites and Gadites or ravaging the land they occupied.
34 E chiamarono i figliuoli di Ruben e quelli di Gad (e quelli della mezza schiatta de' figliuoli di Manasse) questo altare il quale aveano edificato: TESTIMONIO NOSTRO, CHE IDDIO SIGNORE È VERO DIO.	34 The Reubenites and the Gadites gave the altar its name as a witness among them that the LORD is God.
