1 E avendo udite queste cose Iabin re di Asor, sì mandò a Giobab re di Madon, e al re di Semeron, e al re di Acsaf,	1 When Jabin, king of Hazor, learned of this, he sent a message to Jobab, king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,
2 e anco alli re della parte d' aquilone i quali abitavano in su i monti e nel piano, dirimpetto al mezzodì di Cenerot, e ancora ne' piani e nelle contrade di Dor a lato il mare,	2 and to the northern kings in the mountain regions and in the Arabah near Chinneroth, in the foothills, and in Naphath-dor to the west.
3 e ancora al Cananeo il quale è ad occidente e ad oriente, all' Amorreo e all' Eteo e al Ferezeo e al Iebuseo in su le montagne, e ancora all' Eveo il quale abitava a' piedi de' monti d' Ermon nella terra di Masfa.	3 These were Canaanites to the east and west, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the mountain regions, and Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.
4 E uscirono fuori tutti quanti colle turme, (e colle loro moltitudini) e con molto e grandissimo popolo, sì come l'arena la quale è alla riva del mare, e cavalieri e carri (armati) di grande moltitudine.	4 They came out with all their troops, an army numerous as the sands on the seashore, and with a multitude of horses and chariots.
5 E raunàronvisi tutti questi re insieme alle acque di Merom, per combattere contro ad Israel.	5 All these kings joined forces and marched to the waters of Merom, where they encamped together to fight against Israel.
6 E disse Iddio a Iosuè: non avere paura di loro, imperciò che domani a questa otta io darò nelle tue mani tutti costoro, morti e isconfitti, dinanzi ad Israel; i loro cavalli sì snerverai (cioè taglierai i nervi), e i carri arderai (e metterai al fuoco).	6 The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for by this time tomorrow I will stretch them slain before Israel. You must hamstring their horses and burn their chariots."
7 E venne Iosuè, e tutto l'oste suo con lui, in verso coloro; e subitamente furono all' acque di Merom, e percossono loro addosso.	7 Joshua with his whole army came upon them at the waters of Merom in a surprise attack.
8 E diedegli Iddio (e misegli) nelle mani d' Israel; i quali sì gli sconfissero e perseguitarono insino al grande Sidone e all' acque di Maserefot, e (ancora insino) al campo di Masfe il quale è da quella parte d'oriente. Intanto gli uccise (e perseguitò), che niuna reliquia ne lasciò di loro.	8 The LORD delivered them into the power of the Israelites, who defeated them and pursued them to Greater Sidon, to Misrephoth-maim, and eastward to the valley of Mizpeh. They struck them all down, leaving no survivors.
9 E fece come Iddio gli avea comandato, e tagliò i nervi ai cavalli loro, e li carri sì arse.	9 Joshua did to them as the LORD had commanded: he hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots.
10 E tornato incontanente prese Asor, e il re suo uccise colle coltella; imperciò che Asor era anticamente, e tra tutti gli altri regni tenea il principato (e la signoria).	10 At that time Joshua, turning back, captured Hazor and slew its king with the sword; for Hazor formerly was the chief of all those kingdoms.
11 E uccise (Iosuè) l'anime che dentro vi stavano, nè non vi lasciò dentro reliquia niuna; ma insino alla morte ogni cosa guastò, e alla città mise il fuoco (e arse).	11 He also fulfilled the doom by putting every person there to the sword, till none was left alive. Hazor itself he burned.
12 E tutte le cittadi dintorno e i re loro sì prese (e gli altri d'attorno) e sì gli spense e uccise, sì come gli avea comandato Moisè servo di Dio.	12 Joshua thus captured all those kings with their cities and put them to the sword, fulfilling the doom on them, as Moses, the servant of the LORD, had commanded.
13 Senza le cittadi, le quali erano in su i colli e nelle coste giuso edificate, tutte quante l'altre arse Israel. Intanto Asor, cittade fortissima (e acconcia), mise a fuoco e a fiamma.	13 However, Israel did not destroy by fire any of the cities built on raised sites, except Hazor, which Joshua burned.
14 E tutta quanta la preda di queste cittadi e gli animali sì divisero tra loro i figliuoli d'Israel (di tutte quante le cose morte), uccisi tutti gli uomini.	14 The Israelites took all the spoil and livestock of these cities as their booty; but the people they put to the sword, until they had exterminated the last of them, leaving none alive.
15 Siccome avea comandato Iddio a Moisè servo suo, così comandò Moisè a Iosuè; e lui compì ogni cosa, e non mancò di tutti i comandamenti, non una minima cosa di quelle cose che avea comandate Dio a Moisè.	15 As the LORD had commanded his servant Moses, so Moses commanded Joshua, and Joshua acted accordingly. He left nothing undone that the LORD had commanded Moses should be done.
16 E pigliò Iosuè ogni terra di montagna e del mezzodì, e la terra di Gosen, il piano e la parte dell' occidente, il monte d' Israel e tutti i suoi piani,	16 So Joshua captured all this land: the mountain regions, the entire Negeb, all the land of Goshen, the foothills, the Arabah, as well as the mountain regions and foothills of Israel,
17 e parte del monte che sale, suso in Seir, insino a Baalgad, per lo piano del Libano di sotto al monte d'Ermon. Tutti quanti i re di queste contrade pigliò, e sì gli uccise.	17 from Mount Halak that rises toward Seir as far as Baal-gad in the Lebanon valley at the foot of Mount Hermon. All their kings he captured and put to death.
18 E molto tempo combatteo Iosuè contro a questi re.	18 Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time.
19 Non fue cittade la quale si desse ai figliuoli d' Israel, se non gli Evei i quali abitavano in Gabaon; tutte quante l'altre prese combattendo.	19 With the exception of the Hivites who lived in Gibeon, no city made peace with the Israelites; all were taken in battle.
20 Imperciò ch' era istata la sentenza di Dio, che i loro cuori indurassero (e fossono ostinati), e mettessonsi a combattere contro ad Israel, e fossono isconfitti (e morti), e non fossono degni di niuna pietade e misericordia, ma perissono, siccome Iddio avea comandato a Moisè.	20 For it was the design of the LORD to encourage them to wage war against Israel, that they might be doomed to destruction and thus receive no mercy, but be exterminated, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
21 In quello tempo venne Iosuè, (e salì suso) e uccise Enacim delle montagne, ed Ebron e Dabir e Anab di tutti i monti di Giuda e d' Israel, e guastò le loro cittadi.	21 At that time Joshua penetrated the mountain regions and exterminated the Anakim in Hebron, Debir, Anab, the entire mountain region of Judah, and the entire mountain region of Israel. Joshua fulfilled the doom on them and on their cities,
22 E non lasciò niuno della schiatta di Enacim (de' giganti) nella terra de' figliuoli d' Israel, fuori che le cittadi di Gaza e di Get e di Azoto, le quali sole furono lasciate a coloro di quella schiatta.	22 so that no Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites. However, some survived in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod.
23 E pigliò Iosuè ogni terra, siccome disse (e favellò) Iddio a Moisè; e diella in possessione ai figliuoli d' Israel per ciascuna ischiatta; e riposossi la terra delle battaglie.	23 Thus Joshua captured the whole country, just as the LORD had foretold to Moses. Joshua gave it to Israel as their heritage, apportioning it among the tribes. And the land enjoyed peace.
