Deuteronomio 8

BIBBIA VOLGARE	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Ogni comandamento, il quale io ti comando oggi, guarda diligentemente che tu il faccia (e serva), acciò che possiate vivere (e crescere) e multiplicare, ed entrando sì possediate (e abitate) la terra la quale Iddio giurò (e promise) a' vostri padri.	1 All the commandments, that I command thee this day, take great care to observe: that you may live, and be multiplied, and going in may possess the land, for which the Lord swore to your fathers.
2 E fa che tu ti raccordi di tutta la via e l'andare, e del viaggio per lo quale ti meno Iddio tuo Signore anni quaranta per lo deserto, acciò che ti affligesse (e provasseti) e tentasseti, e fesse manifesto quello che portavi (e avevi in cuore e) nell'animo tuo, a vedere se tu guardassi i suoi comandamenti o non.	2 And thou shalt remember all the way through which the Lord thy God hath brought thee for forty years through the desert, to afflict thee and to prove thee, and that the things that were in thy heart might be made known, whether thou wouldst keep his commandments or no.
3 Egli t’ afflisse (e tribulò) di miseria e di fame, e dietti per cibo la manna (del cielo), la quale non conoscevi nè tu nè i tuoi padri, acciò ch' egli ti mostrasse che l'uomo non vive solamente di pane, ma d'ogni parola la quale procede dalla bocca di Dio.	3 He afflicted thee with want, and gave thee manna for thy food, which neither thou nor thy fathers knew: to shew that m not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.
4 Il tuo vestimento, con lo quale ti (vestivi e) coprivi, non venne meno per vecchiezza; il piè tuo non fu debilitato, ecco che egli è il quadragesimo anno;	4 Thy raiment, with which thou wast covered, hath not decayed for age, and thy foot is not worn, lo this is the fortieth year,
5 acciò che tu il pensi nel cuore tuo; imperciò come l'uomo ammaestra il figliuolo, cosi Iddio tuo Signore t'ammaestro,	5 That thou mayst consider in thy heart, that as a man traineth up his son, so the Lord thy God hath trained thee up.
6 acciò che (guardi e) servi i suoi comandamenti, e vadi per le sue vie, e (abbi paura di lui e) temilo.	6 That thou shouldst keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways, and fear him.
7 Perciò che Iddio, tuo Signore, sì ti metterà nella buona terra, piena di rivi e d'acqua e di fonti; ne' quali campi e ne' quali monti escono fonti d'acqua.	7 For the Lord thy God will bring thee into a good land, of brooks and of waters, and of fountains: in the plains of which and the hills deep rivers break out:
8 E sì è terra di grano, d'orzo e di vigne, nella quale nascono fichi e mele grane se oliveti ]; e si è terra da olio e da miele,	8 A land of wheat, and barley, and vineyards, wherein fig trees and pomegranates, and oliveyards grow: a land of oil and honey.
9 la quale sì è senza alcuna povertà e miseria; dove mangerai il pane tuo, e (sopra questo) avrai abbondanza d'ogni cosa (e di ogni bene); della quale terra (e monti) le pietre sono come ferro forti, e dei suoi monti si cava metalli (di rame, e d'oro e d'a riento).	9 Where without any want thou shalt eat thy bread, and enjoy abundance of all things: where the stones are iron, and out of its hills are dug mines of brass:
10 (E questo sì è in quella terra,) acciò che mangiando tu (e bevendo e saturandoti), benedichi (e rendi grazia) a Dio, tuo Signore, per la terra ottima (e buona) la quale egli ti diede.	10 That when thou hast eaten, and art full, thou mayst bless the Lord thy God for the excellent land which he hath given thee.
11 Serva, e guarda che non t'esca di mente Iddio, tuo Signore, e sii negligente de' suoi comandamenti e de' suoi giudicii ed osservanze, le quali io ti comando oggi,	11 Take heed, and beware lest at any time thou forget the Lord thy God, and neglect his commandments and judgments and ceremonies, which I command thee this day:
12 acciò che poi che tu avrai manicato, e sa rai satorato, e avrai edificato le belle case, e abitatovi dentro,	12 Lest after thou hast eaten and art filled, hast built goodly houses, and dwelt in them,
13 e averai armenti [di buoi] e greggie di peco re, oro e ariento, e di tutte le cose in abbondanza,	13 And shalt have herds of oxen and flocks of sheep, and plenty of gold and of silver, and of all things,
14 non si lievi il tuo cuore in superbia, e non ti raccordi di Dio, tuo Signore, il quale ti trasse della terra d'Egitto, di casa di servitudine,	14 Thy heart be lifted up, and thou remember not the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage:
15 e fu tuo guidatore (e menatore) per lo diserto e solitudine, grande e terribile, nella quale era il serpente che uccideva e avvelenava col suo fiato, e avevavi iscorpioni e serpenti, i quali si chiamano SETOLE, e non v' aveva acqua niente; ed egli sì cavoe i suoi rivi (con abbondanza d'acqua) della pie tra (secca e) durissima,	15 And was thy leader in the great and terrible wilderness, wherein there was the serpent burning with his breath, and the scorpion and the dipsas, and no waters at all: who brought forth streams out of the hardest rock,
16 e diedeti cibo di manna (soavissimo nel di serto e) nella solitudine, il quale non seppero nè ebbero i tuoi padri; e poi ch' egli t ebbe afflitto (e tribulato) e provatoti, all'ultimo sì ebbe misericordia di te,	16 And fed thee in the wilderness with manna which thy fathers knew not. And after he had afflicted and proved thee, at the last he had mercy on thee,
17 acciò che tu non dicessi nel tuo cuore: questo m'ha (fatto e) dato la fortezza della sollecitudine delle mie mani.	17 Lest thou shouldst say in thy heart: My own might, and the strength of my own hand have achieved all these things for me.
18 Ma fa che tu ti ricordi di Dio, tuo Signore, e pensa ch' egli ti diede questa fortezza, acciò che empiesse il patto e la promessa, sopra la quale egli giurò (e promise) a tuoi padri, siccome si mostra nel presente die.	18 But remember the Lord thy God, that he hath given thee strength, that he might fulfil his covenant, concerning which he swore to thy fathers, as this present day sheweth.
19 Ma se tu ti dimenticherai Iddio tuo Signore, e anderai dietro agli dii altrui, e farai loro (sacrificio e) riverenza, e adorera'gli, ecco ch' io ti dico innanzi a te: a ogni modo tu sarai ispento.	19 But if thou forget the Lord thy God, and follow strange gods, and serve and adore them: behold now I foretell thee that thou shalt utterly perish.
20 E siccome (sono venute meno) le altre genti, le quali Iddio hae spente (e morte) nell'entrare tuo, cosi voi verrete meno, se voi non sarete obbedienti alla voce di Dio vostro Signore.	20 As the nations, which the Lord destroyed at thy entrance, so shall you also perish, if you be disobedient to the voice of the Lord your God.
