1 Ed essendo in uno luogo orando, e quando ebbe cessato di orare, dissegli uno delli discepoli : messere, insegnaci a orare, come insegnò Ioanne alli suoi discepoli.	1 And it happened that, while he was in a certain place praying, when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
2 Ed egli a loro disse: quando orate, dicete: Padre, sia santificato il nome tuo; fa ch' io venga al regno tuo; (sia fatta la volontà tua).	2 And he said to them: “When you are praying, say: Father, may your name be kept holy. May your kingdom come.
3 Dacci oggi il quotidiano pane nostro.	3 Give us this day our daily bread.
4 E a noi perdona li peccati nostri, sì come noi lasciamo alli debitori nostri; e non ci inducere in tentazione.	4 And forgive us our sins, since we also forgive all who are indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.”
5 E disse a quelli: quale di voi che averà uno suo amico, e anderà da lui a mezzanotte, e dirà a lui amico, prestami tre pani;	5 And he said to them: “Which of you will have a friend and will go to him in the middle of the night, and will say to him: ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,
6 imperò che uno mio amico è venuto a me di lungo viaggio, e non ho che gli pona inanzi;	6 because a friend of mine has arrived from a journey to me, and I do not have anything to set before him.’
7 e quel ch' è dentro risponda e dica: non mi molestare; imperò ch' io ho serrato l'usio, e son nel letto con li miei fanciulli, si che io non mi posso levare a dartegli;	7 And from within, he would answer by saying: ‘Do not disturb me. The door is closed now, and my children and I are in bed. I cannot get up and give it to you.’
8 se quel sta per fermo, e persevera di picchiare, io vi dico che se egli non si leverà a dargli a quello che dimanda, come ad amico, almeno per la sua importunità leverassi, e daragli quello che gli fia bisogno.	8 Yet if he will persevere in knocking, I tell you that, even though he would not get up and give it to him because he is a friend, yet due to his continued insistence, he will get up and give him whatever he needs.
9 E imperò io dico a voi: chiedete, e saravvi dato; cercate, e troverete; picchiate, e saravvi aperto.	9 And so I say to you: Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and you shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you.
10 Imperò che ogni uomo che addimanda, riceve; e chi cerca, troverà; e chi picchia, gli è aperto.	10 For everyone who asks, receives. And whoever seeks, finds. And whoever knocks, it shall be opened to him.
11 E qual è di voi che addimanda al padre pane, già non gli dà pietre; e se addimanda pesce, non gli dà serpente.	11 So then, who among you, if he asks his father for bread, he would give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he would give him a serpent, instead of a fish?
12 E s' egli dimanda uno uovo, non li dà scorpioni.	12 Or if he will ask for an egg, he would offer to him a scorpion?
13 Se adunque voi, che siete rei, sapete bene. dare le buone cose a' vostri figliuoli, quanto più maggiormente il Padre vostro del cielo darà lo spirito buono a chi l'addimandarà?	13 Therefore, if you, being evil, know how to give good things to your sons, how much more will your Father give, from heaven, a spirit of goodness to those who ask him?”
14 Ed era Iesù che cacciò uno demonio d'adosso a uno, che era muto. E cacciato ch' ebbe il demonio, il muto parlò; onde le turbe molto meraviglioronsi.	14 And he was casting out a demon, and the man was mute. But when he had cast out the demon, the mute man spoke, and so the crowds were amazed.
15 Ma alquanti di loro dicevano, che in virtù di Belzebù, principe delli demonii, cacciava li demonii.	15 But some of them said, “It is by Beelzebub, the leader of demons, that he casts out demons.”
16 E altri, tentandolo, gli addimandavano segno dal cielo.	16 And others, testing him, required a sign from heaven of him.
17 Ed egli, conoscendo quello che pensavano, disse a loro: ogni regno in sè diviso sarà desolato, e l'una casa caderà sopra l'altra.	17 But when he perceived their thoughts, he said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself will become desolate, and house will fall upon house.
18 E se satana in sè medesimo è diviso, come adunque potrà il suo regno durare? adunque perchè dite che in virtù di Belzebù caccio li demonii?	18 So then, if Satan is also divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that it is by Beelzebub that I cast out demons.
19 E se in virtù di Belzebù scaccio gli demonii, gli vostri figliuoli in cui virtù gli cacciano? E imperò egli saranno vostri giudici.	19 But if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your own sons cast them out? Therefore, they shall be your judges.
20 E se io caccio gli demonii col digito di Dio, infra voi egli è il regno di Dio.	20 Moreover, if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then certainly the kingdom of God has overtaken you.
21 E imperò che uno uomo armato e forte guarda il suo palazzo, ciò che possede sta securo.	21 When a strong armed man guards his entrance, the things that he possesses are at peace.
22 Ma se viene uno più forte di lui, e vincelo, tutte le armi gli torrà nelle quali avea speranza; e ciò che gli torrà, distribuirà.	22 But if a stronger one, overwhelming him, has defeated him, he will take away all his weapons, in which he trusted, and he will distribute his spoils.
23 E chi non è meco, sì è contro a me; e chi non ricoglie meco, disperge.	23 Whoever is not with me, is against me. And whoever does not gather with me, scatters.
24 E quando lo spirito immondo è partito dall'uomo, va per luoghi (aridi e) dove non è acqua, e addimanda riposo; e non trovandolo, dice: tornerò nella casa donde sono uscito.	24 When an unclean spirit has departed from a man, he walks through waterless places, seeking rest. And not finding any, he says: ‘I will return to my house, from which I departed.’
25 E tornando, trovolla ornata, monda e netta.	25 And when he has arrived, he finds it swept clean and decorated.
26 E allora egli va, e piglia con seco sette spiriti più iniqui, e tòrnavi e àbitavi. E le ultime cose di quello fieno peggiori delle prime.	26 Then he goes, and he takes in seven other spirits with him, more wicked than himself, and they enter and live there. And so, the end of that man is made worse the beginning.”
27 E dicendo egli queste cose, una femina levò in alto la sua voce, e disse: beato il ventre che ti ha portato, e le poppe che ti lattorono.	27 And it happened that, when he was saying these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifting up her voice, said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you.”
28 Ed egli disse: (non solamente è beato quel che tu di', ma) ancora sono beati quelli che odono la parola di Dio, (e udita che l'hanno, l'osservano) e guardano quella.	28 Then he said, “Yes, but moreover: blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”
29 Ed egli incominciò a dicere alle concorrenti turbe: iniqua è questa generazione; lei chiede il segno, e a lei non sarà dato alcun segno, salvo il segno di Iona [profeta].	29 Then, as the crowds were quickly gathering, he began to say: “This generation is a wicked generation: it seeks a sign. But no sign will be given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
30 Onde come Iona fu seguo alli Niniviti, così sarà il Figliuolo dell' uomo a questa generazione.	30 For just as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of man be to this generation.
31 Leverassi la regina di austro nel giudizio con gli uomini di questa generazione, e condanneralli; imperò che lei venne dalle ultime parti della terra per udire la sapienza di Salomone; ed ecco che quivi egli è più che Salomone.	31 The queen of the South will rise up, at the judgment, with the men of this generation, and she will condemn them. For she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. And behold, more than Solomon is here.
32 Leveransi li uomini di Ninive con questa generazione nel giudizio, e condanneranno quella; imperò che loro fecero penitenza nella predicazione di Iona; ed ecco, quivi egli è più che Iona.	32 The men of Nineveh will rise up, at the judgment, with this generation, and they will condemn it. For at the preaching of Jonah, they repented. And behold, more than Jonah is here.
33 Nullo accenda la lucerna, e ponga quella nel luogo occulto, nè etiam sotto il staio; ma sopra il candeliere, acciò che quelli ch' entrano, vedano [lume].	33 No one lights a candle and places it in hiding, nor under a bushel basket, but upon a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.
34 La lucerna del tuo corpo è l'occhio tuo. Se l'occhio tuo sarà semplice, tutto il tuo corpo sarà lucido; ma se egli sarà iniquo, etiam il tuo corpo sarà tenebroso.	34 Your eye is the light of your body. If your eye is wholesome, your entire body will be filled with light. But if it is wicked, then even your body will be darkened.
35 Guarda adunque, che il lume, ch' è in te, non sia tenebre.	35 Therefore, take care, lest the light that is within you become darkness.
36 Se adunque il tuo corpo sarà tutto lucido, non avendo alcuna parte di tenebre, sarà egli tutto lucido; e illuminarà te, come lucerna di fulgore.	36 So then, if your entire body becomes filled with light, not having any part in darkness, then it will be entirely light, and, like a shining lamp, it will illuminate you.”
37 Ed egli parlando, pregollo uno Fariseo, che egli desinasse appresso di sè. Di che Iesù, entrato, puosesi a sedere (a desinare).	37 And as he was speaking, a certain Pharisee asked him to eat with him. And going inside, he sat down to eat.
38 Ma il Fariseo incominciò, infra sè pensando, a dicere il perchè egli non fusse battezzato inanzi desinare.	38 But the Pharisee began to say, thinking within himself: “Why might it be that he has not washed before eating?”
39 E dissegli il Signore: ora voi, Farisei, nettate quel ch' è di fuori del calice e del catino; ma quel ch' è dentro da voi, egli è pieno di rapina e d' iniquità.	39 And the Lord said to him: “You Pharisees today clean what is outside the cup and the plate, but what is inside of you is full of plunder and iniquity.
40 O pazzi, or colui che fece quel ch' è di fuori, egli non ha etiam fatto quel ch' è dentro?	40 Fools! Did not he who made what is outside, indeed also make what is inside?
41 Ma quel che vi sopra avanza, datelo in elemosina; ed ecco che a voi sono tutte cose monde.	41 Yet truly, give what is above as alms, and behold, all things are clean for you.
42 Ma guai a voi, Farisei, li quali decimate la menta e la ruta e ogni erba, e preterite il giudicio e la carità di Dio; onde fu bisogno di fare queste, e non lasciare quelle.	42 But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but you ignore judgment and the charity of God. But these things you ought to have done, without omitting the others.
43 Guai a voi, Farisei, li quali amate le prime cattedre nelle sinagoghe, ed essere salutati (nelle piazze e) nel mercato.	43 Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the first seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the marketplace.
44 Guai a voi, imperò che siete a modo di monumenti, che non appaiono, e non sanno gli uomini che vanno di sopra.	44 Woe to you! For you are like graves that are not noticeable, so that men walk over them without realizing it.”
45 Di che rispondendo [alcuni] delli periti della legge, dissero maestro, dicendo tu queste cose, a noi fai ingiuria (e vergogna).	45 Then one of the experts in the law, in response, said to him, “Teacher, in saying these things, you bring an insult against us as well.”
46 Ed egli disse: etiam guai a voi, ammaestrati nella legge; imperò che caricate gli uomini di carichi, che loro non possono portare; e voi con uno vostro dito non toccate le piccole fascine.	46 So he said: “And woe to you experts in the law! For you weigh men down with burdens which they are not able to bear, but you yourselves do not touch the weight with even one of your fingers.
47 Guai a voi, ch' edificate li monumenti dei profeti; ma li vostri padri hanno uccisi quelli.	47 Woe to you, who build the tombs of the prophets, while it is your fathers who killed them!
48 Ma certo voi testificate che consentite alle opere de' vostri padri; imperò che certo loro uccisero quelli, ma voi edificate li loro sepolcri.	48 Clearly, you are testifying that you consent to the actions of your fathers, because even though they killed them, you build their sepulchers.
49 Per la quale cosa disse la sapienza di Dio: a quelli mandarò gli profeti e gli apostoli, e di quelli uccideranno e perseguiteranno,	49 Because of this also, the wisdom of God said: I will send to them Prophets and Apostles, and some of these they will kill or persecute,
50 acciò sia richiesto il sangue di tutti gli profeti, ch' è stato sparto dalla constituzione del mondo. da questa generazione,	50 so that the blood of all the Prophets, which has been shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation:
51 dal sangue di Abel insigno al sangue di Zacaria, il quale moritte tra l'altare e la casa. Così etiam, dico a voi, richiederassi da questa generazione.	51 from the blood of Abel, even to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. So I say to you: it will be required of this generation!
52 Guai a voi, dotti nella legge, li quali avete tolta la chiave della scienza; e voi stessi non siete entrati, e avete vietato a quelli ch' entravano.	52 Woe to you, experts in the law! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves do not enter, and those who were entering, you would have prohibited.”
53 Dicendo egli queste cose a loro, incominciorono li Farisei e dottori della legge a resistere gravemente, e a opprimere la sua bocca, insegnandogli molte cose,	53 Then, while he was saying these things to them, the Pharisees and the experts in the law began to insist strongly that he restrain his mouth about many things.
54 e cercanti di udire alcuna cosa della bocca sua, acciò l'accusassero.	54 And waiting to ambush him, they sought something from his mouth that they might seize upon, in order to accuse him.
