1 Questo è il carico il quale vidde Abacuc profeta.	1 The burden that Habacuc the prophet saw.
2 Insino a quando, Signore, chiamerò, e non mi esaudirai? griderò io ad alta voce a te, patendo io violenza, e non mi salverai?	2 How long, O Lord, shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? shall I cry out to thee suffering violence, and thou wilt not save?
3 Perche m' hai tu dimostrata la iniquità e la fatica, e ch' io veggia la preda e la ingiustizia contro a me? (Per che ragguardi i dispregiatori, e taci quando lo empio conculca colui ch' è più giusto di lui, e farai gli uomini come pesci del mare, e come li rettili che non hanno guida?) E fatto è il giudicio, e la contradizione più potente.	3 Why hast thou shewn me iniquity and grievance, to see rapine and injustice before me? and there is a judgment, but opposition is more powerful.
4 Per questo è lacerata (e squarciata) la legge, e il giudicio non perviene infino alla fine; però che lo empio prevale contro al giusto, e però esce il giudicio perverso.	4 Therefore the law is torn in pieces, and judgment cometh not to the end: because the wicked prevaileth against the just, therefore wrong judgment goeth forth.
5 Ragguardate nelle genti, e vedete; e maravigliatevi, e stupefatevi; però che una operazione è fatta ne' dì vostri, la quale niuno crederà quando fia narrata.	5 Behold ye among the nations, and see: wonder, and be astonished: for a work is done in your days, which no man will believe when it shall be told.
6 Però che, ecco che io susciterò i Caldei, gente amara e veloce, la quale anderà sopra la latitudine della terra, acciò che possegga i tabernacoli non suoi.	6 For behold, I will raise up the Chaldeans, a bitter and swift nation, marching upon the breadth of the earth, to possess the dwelling places that are not their own.
7 Orribile è, e terribile; e da lei medesima uscirà il giudicio e il carico suo.	7 They are dreadful, and terrible: from themselves shall their judgment, and their burden proceed.
8 I cavalli suoi sono più leggieri che pardi, e più veloci che lupi vespertini; e spargerannosi gli uomini suoi da cavallo; però che gli uomini suoi da cavallo verranno da lungi, e voleranno come l'aquila la quale con fretta va a mangiare.	8 Their horses are lighter than leopards, and swifter than evening wolves; and their horsemen shall be spread abroad: for their horsemen shall come from afar, they shall fly as an eagle that maketh haste to eat.
9 Tutti verranno alla preda, e le faccie loro saranno come vento ardente; e radunerà li prigioni come la rena.	9 They shall all come to the prey, their face is like a burning wind: and they shall gather together captives as the sand.
10 Ed egli trionferà delli re, e riderassi (e farassi beffe) de' tiranni; egli si riderà (e farassi beffe) d'ogni fortezza, e porterà seco il terreno per fare il monte alto rimpetto alle mura per combatterla, e piglieralla.	10 And their prince shall triumph over kings, and princes shall be his laughingstock: and he shall laugh at every strong hold, and shall cast up a mount, and shall take it.
11 Allora si tramuterà lo spirito suo, e trapasserà e caderà: or è questa la fortezza del suo iddio?	11 Then shall his spirit be changed, and he shall pass, and fall: this is his strength of his god.
12 Or non se tu il mio Signore Iddio dal principio (cioè ab eterno), e sei il santo mio, e non morremo? Signore, tu l' hai posto in giudicio; e fondastilo forte acciò che tu correggessi (molti per mezzo di lui).	12 Wast thou not from the beginning, O Lord my God, my holy one, and we shall not die? Lord, thou hast appointed him for judgment: and made him strong for correction.
13 Gli occhi tuoi sono mondi (e netti), acciò che tu non veggia il male; e non potrai ragguardare alla iniquità; per che non ragguardi tu sopra coloro che fanno le cose inique? e taci, quando l'empio divora colui che è più giusto di lui?	13 Thy eyes are too pure to behold evil, and thou canst not look on iniquity. Why lookest thou upon them that do unjust things, and holdest thy peace when the wicked devoureth the man that is more just than himself?
14 E farai gli uomini come pesci del mare, e come li rettili che non hanno principe?	14 And thou wilt make men as the fishes of the sea, and as the creeping things that have no ruler.
15 Ogni cosa solleverà coll' amo suo; trasselo (e radunerallo) nella rete sua; sopra ciò si farà lieto, e rallegrerassi.	15 He lifted up all them with his hook, he drew them in his drag, and gathered them into his net: for this he will be glad and rejoice.
16 Però sacrificherà alla rete sua, e offerirà alla rete sua; per che in essa è ingrassata la parte sua, e il cibo suo eletto.	16 Therefore will he offer victims to his drag, and he will sacrifice to his net: because through them his portion is made fat, and his meat dainty.
17 Per questo adunque spande la rete sua, e non cessa d' uccidere sempre le genti.	17 For this cause therefore he spreadeth his net, and will not spare continually to slay the nations.
