1 Cantico de' gradi. Se non che il Signore era in noi, ora dica Israel:	1 A Canticle in steps. If the Lord had not been with us, let Israel now say it:
2 se non che il Signore era in noi, Forse quando gli uomini si rizzaranno contro a noi,	2 if the Lord had not been with us, when men rose up against us,
3 per avventura ci arebbono inghiottiti così vivi vivi. Quando si adirava il loro furore contra di noi,	3 perhaps they would have swallowed us alive. When their fury was enraged against us,
4 forse che l'acqua n'arebbe inghiottiti.	4 perhaps the waters would have engulfed us.
5 L'anima nostra passò il torrente; forse l' anima nostra arebbe passata l'acqua intollerabile.	5 Our soul has passed through a torrent. Perhaps, our soul had even passed through intolerable water.
6 Benedetto sia il Signore, che non ci ha dato nel pigliamento de' loro denti.	6 Blessed is the Lord, who has not given us into the harm of their teeth.
7 L'anima nostra, come passera, è stata liberata dal laccio de' uccellatori: il laccio fu spezzato, e noi siamo liberati.	7 Our soul has been snatched away like a sparrow from the snare of the hunters. The snare has been broken, and we have been freed.
8 Nel nome del Signore è l'aiuto nostro, il quale ha fatto il cielo e la terra.	8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
