BIBBIA VOLGARE	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Rispose Elifaz Temanite, e disse:	1 And Eliphaz the Themanite, answered, and said:
2 Or non risponderà lo savio, favellante quasi come uno vento, ed empierà di ardore lo stomaco suo?	2 Will a wise man answer as if he were speaking in the wind, and fill his stomach with burning heat?
3 E tu riprendi colle parole colui che non è uguale a te, e favelli quello che non ti si conviene.	3 Thou reprovest him by words, who is not equal to thee, and thou speakest that which is not good for thee.
4 Quanto in te è, cacciasti fuori lo timore, e offeristi le preghiere dinanzi a Dio.	4 As much as is in thee, thou hast made void fear, and hast taken away prayers from before God.
5 E la iniquità ammaestrò la tua bocca, e sèguiti la lingua delli biastematori.	5 For thy iniquity hath taught thy mouth, and thou imitatest the tongue of blasphemers.
6 E condannerà te la tua bocca, e non io; e li tuoi labbri risponderanno a te.	6 Thy own mouth shall condemn thee, and not I: and thy own lips shall answer thee.
7 Or se' tu nato lo primo uomo, e innanzi che li colli se' tu formato?	7 Art thou the first man that was born, or wast thou made before the hills ?
8 Or hai tu udito lo consiglio di Dio, e più di sotto sarà la sua sapienza, che tu?	8 Hast thou heard God's counsel, and shall his wisdom be inferior to thee?
9 Che hai conosciuto, che noi non sappiamo? che intendi, che noi non lo intendiamo?	9 What knowest thou that we are ignorant of? what dost thou understand that we know not?
10 E vecchi e antichi sono tra noi, molto più vecchi che li padri tuoi.	10 There are with us also aged and ancient men, much elder than thy fathers.
11 Or non è grande cosa, che consoli Iddio te? Ma le tue parole ree vietano questo.	11 Is it a great matter that God should comfort thee? but thy wicked words hinder this.
12 Ma perchè il tuo cuore leva te, e quasi pensante le grandi cose, tu hai gli occhi angosciosi?	12 Why doth thy heart elevate thee, and why dost thou stare with thy eyes, as if they were thinking great things ?
13 Perchè s' enfia lo spirito tuo contro a Dio, acciò che tu proferi del cuore queste medesime parole?	13 Why doth thy spirit swell against God, to utter such words out of thy mouth ?
14 Che è l'uomo, che sia senza macola, e sì come giusto paia nato della femina?	14 What is man that he should be without spot, and he that is born of a woman that he should appear just?
15 Ecco intra li santi niuno è immutabile, e li cieli non sono mondi dinanzi a lui,	15 Behold among his saints none is unchangeable, and the heavens are not pure in his sight.
16 Quanto maggiormente è abbominevole, e non è utile, l'uomo che beve sì come l'acqua la iniquitade?	16 How much more is man abominable, and unprofitable, who drinketh iniquity like water?
17 Io te la mostrerò; odi me; quello ch' io viddi, lo ti narreroe.	17 I will shew thee, hear me : and I mill tell thee what I have seen.
18 Li savii confessano, e non ascondono li loro. padri.	18 Wise men confess and hide not their fathers.
19 A' quali solo data è la terra, e non trapasserae uno alieno per loro.	19 To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger hath passed among them.
20 In tutti li suoi dì lo malvagio insuperbisce, e non è certo dello numero delli anni della sua tiranneria.	20 The wicked man is proud all his days, and the number of the years of his tyranny is uncertain.
21 Lo suono della paura sempre è nelle orecchie sue; e quando egli è pace, colui teme d'insidie, ed è in sospicione.	21 The sound of dread is always in his ears: and when there is peace, he always suspecteth treason.
22 E non crede che ritornare possa delle tenebre a luce, aspettando d'ogni parte lo coltello.	22 He believeth not that he may return from darkness to light, looking round about for the sword on every side.
23 Quando egli muoverae sè a chiedere lo pane, conobbe che nella mano sua apparecchiato è lo dì delle tenebre.	23 When he moveth himself to seek bread, he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Spaventerae lui la tribulazione, e l'angoscia circonderà lui, sì come lo re che si apparecchia alla battaglia.	24 Tribulation shall terrify him, and distress shall surround him, as a king that is prepared for the battle.
25 Certo ello dirizzò contro a Dio la sua mano, e contro all' Onnipotente s'è fortificato.	25 For he hath stretched out his hand against God, and hath strengthened himself against the Almighty.
26 Corse contro a lui con lo collo ritto, e con grassa testa s'è armato.	26 He hath run against him with his neck raised up, and is armed with a fat neck.
27 E coprì la faccia sua di grassezza, e delli lati suoi l'arvina dipende.	27 Fatness hath covered his face, and the fat hangeth down on his sides.
28 Abiterà nelle cittadi sconsolate e nelle case deserte, le quali in modo di sepolcro sono ridotte.	28 He hath dwelt in desolate cities, and in desert houses that are reduced into heaps.
29 Non sarae arricchito, e non persevererae la sostanza sua, nè non manderà in terra la sua radice.	29 He shall not be enriched, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he push his root in the earth.
30 Nè non si partirà dalle tenebre; li rami suoi si seccheranno per la fiamma, e sarà tolto per lo spirito della bocca sua.	30 He shall not depart out of darkness: the flame shall dry up his branches, and he shall be taken away by the breath of his own month.
31 Non creda indarno, ingannato per errore, che per prezzo sia da essere ricomperato.	31 He shall not believe, being vainly deceived by error, that he may be redeemed with any price.
32 Innanzi che li di suoi s' empino, perirae; e la mano sua sì si seccherae.	32 Before his days be full he shall perish: and his hands shall wither away.
33 Rallegrisi, sì come vigna nel primo fiore, lo granello suo, e sì come oliva che getta lo suo fiore..	33 He shall be blasted as a vine when its grapes are in the first flower, and as an olive tree that casteth its flower.
34 Però che lo raunamento delli ipocriti è senza frutto; e lo fuoco divorerà lo tabernacolo loro, li quali volontieri li doni ricevono.	34 For the congregation of the hypocrite is barren, and fire shall devour their tabernacles, who love to take bribes.
35 Concepette dolore, e partorì la iniquitade; e lo ventre suo apparecchia li inganni.	35 He hath conceived sorrow, and hath brought forth iniquity, and his womb prepareth deceits.
