Atti degli Apostoli 20

1 Quietato che fu il tumulto, Paolo, chiamati i discepoli e confortatili, diede loro l'addio e partì, per andare in Macedonia.	1 When the disturbance was over, Paul sent for the disciples and, after speaking words ofencouragement to them, said good -- bye and set out for Macedonia.
2 E avendo scorsi quei paesi e avendovi fatte molte istruzioni, passò in Grecia;	2 On his way through those areas he said many words of encouragement to them and then made hisway into Greece,
3 dove essendo stato tre mesi, pensò di navigar per la Siria; ma avendogli in questo tese insidie i Giudei, decise di ritornare nella Macedonia.	3 where he spent three months. He was leaving by ship for Syria when a plot organised against him bythe Jews made him decide to go back by way of Macedonia.
4 E lo accompagnarono Sopatro di Pirro di Berea ed Aristarco e Secondo, Tessalonicesi, e Gaio di Derbe e Timoteo e gli asiani Tichico e Trofìmo.	4 He was accompanied by Sopater, son of Pyrrhus, who came from Beroea; Aristarchus and Secunduswho came from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe, and Timothy, as well as Tychicus and Trophimus who werefrom Asia.
5 Questi, essendo partiti prima, ci aspettavano a Troade;	5 They al went on to Troas where they waited for us.
6 noi poi facemmo vela dopo i giorni degli azzimi da Filippi e in cinque giorni li raggiungemmo a Troade dove ci fermammo sette giorni.	6 We ourselves left Philippi by ship after the days of Unleavened Bread and joined them five days later atTroas, where we stayed for a week.
7 E il primo giorno della settimana, essendoci adunati per hungere il pane, Paolo, che stava per partire il giorno dopo, conferendo con essi prolungò il discorso fino alla mezzanotte.	7 On the first day of the week we met for the breaking of bread. Paul was due to leave the next day, andhe preached a sermon that went on til the middle of the night.
8 E c'eran molte lampade nel cenacolo dove eran radunati.	8 A number of lamps were lit in the upstairs room where we were assembled,
9 E un giovanetto, per nome Eutico, stando a sedere sopra la finestra immerso in un profondo sonno, mentre Paolo tirava in lungo il discorso, trasportato dal sonno, cadde giù dal terzo piano e fu levato di terra morto.	9 and as Paul went on and on, a young man called Eutychus who was sitting on the window-sil grewdrowsy and was overcome by sleep and fel to the ground three floors below. He was picked up dead.
10 Ma disceso, Paolo si gettò sopra di lui ed abbracciatolo, gli disse: Non vi affannate, l'anima sua è in lui.	10 Paul went down and stooped to clasp the boy to him, saying, 'There is no need to worry, there is stillife in him.'
11 E risalito che fu, spezzato il pane, e preso cibo, dopo aver parlato ancora fino all'alba, se ne partì.	11 Then he went back upstairs where he broke the bread and ate and carried on talking til he left atdaybreak.
12 E ricondussero vivo il fanciulletto e furono oltremodo consolati.	12 They took the boy away alive, and were greatly encouraged.
13 Ma noi, entrati in nave, andammo ad Asson per quivi riprendere Paolo che aveva così fissato, dovendo egli fare il cammino per terra.	13 We were now to go on ahead by sea, so we set sail for Assos, where we were to take Paul on board;this was what he had arranged, for he wanted to go overland.
14 Raggiunti che ci ebbe ad Asson, presolo con noi, andammo a Mitilene.	14 When he rejoined us at Assos we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.
15 E di lì fatta vela, il dì seguente arrivammo dirimpetto a Chio, e il giorno dopo prendemmo terra a Samo, e l'altro dì giungemmo a Mileto.	15 The next day we sailed from there and arrived opposite Chios. The second day we touched at Samosand, after stopping at Trogyllium, made Miletus the next day.
16 Chè Paolo aveva stabilito di oltrepassare Efeso per non esser trattenuto in Asia, avendo infatti premura di celebrare, se gli fosse stato possibile, il giorno di Pentecoste in Gerusalemme.	16 Paul had decided to pass wide of Ephesus so as to avoid spending time in Asia, since he wasanxious to be in Jerusalem, if possible, for the day of Pentecost.
17 Ma da Mileto mandò ad Efeso a chiamare gli Anziani della Chiesa.	17 From Miletus he sent for the elders of the church of Ephesus.
18 E venuti essi da lui, e stando insieme, disse loro: Voi sapete in qual maniera, dal primo giorno in cui entrai nell'Asia, mi sia diportato sempre con voi,	18 When they arrived he addressed these words to them: 'You know what my way of life has been eversince the first day I set foot among you in Asia,
19 servendo al Signore con tutta umiltà, fra le lacrime le prove che mi son piombate addosso per le insidie dei Giudei,	19 how I have served the Lord in al humility, with al the sorrows and trials that came to me through theplots of the Jews.
20 come non mi sia risparmiato per annunziarvi ed insegnarvi delle cose utili sia in pubblico che per le case,	20 I have not hesitated to do anything that would be helpful to you; I have preached to you and instructedyou both in public and in your homes,
21 inculcando ai Giudei e ai Gentili la penitenza verso Dio e la fede nel Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.	21 urging both Jews and Greeks to turn to God and to believe in our Lord Jesus.
22 Ed ora, ecco che io, costretto dallo Spirito Santo, vado a Gerusalemme non sapendo quali cose là mi abbiano ad accadere:	22 'And now you see me on my way to Jerusalem in captivity to the Spirit; I have no idea what wilhappen to me there,
23 se non chè lo Spirito Santo in tutte le città mi assicura e mi dice che catene e tribolazioni mi aspettano a Gerusalemme.	23 except that the Holy Spirit, in town after town, has made it clear to me that imprisonment andpersecution await me.
24 Ma niuna di queste cose io temo, nè tengo la mia vita più di me, purché io compia la mia missione e il ministero ricevuto dal Signore Gesù per rendere testimonianza al Vangelo della grazia di Dio.	24 But I do not place any value on my own life, provided that I complete the mission the Lord Jesus gaveme -- to bear witness to the good news of God's grace.
25 E ora ecco; io so che voi tutti, fra i quali son passato predicando il regno di Dio, non vedrete più la mia faccia.	25 'I now feel sure that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom wil eversee my face again.
26 Perciò vi prendo in questo giorno a testimoni come io sono mondo del sangue di tutti.	26 And so on this very day I swear that my conscience is clear as far as all of you are concerned,
27 Infatti non mi sono mai ricusato di annunziare tutto il consiglio di Dio.	27 for I have without faltering put before you the whole of God's purpose.
28 Badate a voi stessi e a tutto il gregge di cui lo Spirito Santo vi ha costituiti vescovi per pascere la Chiesa di Dio, acquistata da lui col suo sangue.	28 'Be on your guard for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you theguardians, to feed the Church of God which he bought with the blood of his own Son.
29 Io so che dopo la mia partenza entreranno tra voi dei lupi rapaci che non risparmieranno il gregge.	29 'I know quite wel that when I have gone fierce wolves wil invade you and will have no mercy on theflock.
30 Ed anche in mezzo a voi stessi si leveranno su degli uomini ad insegnare cose perverse, per trarsi dietro dei discepoli.	30 Even from your own ranks there wil be men coming forward with a travesty of the truth on their lips toinduce the disciples to fol ow them.
31 Perciò vegliate, rammentandovi che per tre anni non ho mai cessato dì e notte di ammonire con lacrime ciascun di voi.	31 So be on your guard, remembering how night and day for three years I never slackened in counsel ingeach one of you with tears.
32 Ed ora vi raccomando a Dio ed alla parola della grazia di lui che può edificare e darvi l'eredità tra tutti i santi suoi.	32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace that has power to build you up and togive you your inheritance among all the sanctified.
33 Non ho bramato nè argento, nè oro, nè vesti di alcuno.	33 'I have never asked anyone for money or clothes;
34 Voi lo sapete che al bisogno mio ed a quelli che son con me han provveduto queste mie mani.	34 you know for yourselves that these hands of mine earned enough to meet my needs and those of mycompanions.
35 E in tutto vi ho dimostrato che sì lavorando bisogna soccorrere gli infermi, ricordandosi delle parole del Signore Gesù, il quale disse: E' meglio dare che ricevere.	35 By every means I have shown you that we must exert ourselves in this way to support the weak,remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, who himself said, "There is more happiness in giving than inreceiving." '
36 Detto questo, postosi in ginocchio, pregò con tutti loro.	36 When he had finished speaking he knelt down with them all and prayed.
37 E fu grande il pianto di tutti, e gettandosi al collo di Paolo, lo baciavano,	37 By now they were all in tears; they put their arms round Paul's neck and kissed him;
38 afflitti sopratutto per quella parola che egli aveva loro detta, che non vedrebbero più la sua faccia; e lo accompagnarono alla nave.	38 what saddened them most was his saying they would never see his face again. Then they escortedhim to the ship.
