1 Il popolo del paese prese Ioacaz, figlio di Giosia, e lo proclamò re in Gerusalemme al posto di suo padre.	1 Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz, the son of Josiah, and they appointed him king in place of his father, in Jerusalem.
2 Quando divenne re Ioacaz aveva ventitré anni; regnò tre mesi in Gerusalemme.	2 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for three months in Jerusalem.
3 Il re d'Egitto lo destituì in Gerusalemme ed impose al paese un contributo di cento talenti d'argento e di un talento d'oro.	3 Then the king of Egypt, when he had arrived in Jerusalem, removed him, and condemned the land to one hundred talents of silver and one talent of gold.

6 Contro di lui marciò Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, il quale lo legò con catene di bronzo per condurlo in Babilonia.	6 Nebuchadnezzar, the king of the Chaldeans, ascended against him, and led him bound in chains to Babylon.
7 Anche una parte degli oggetti del tempio del Signore Nabucodònosor l'asportò in Babilonia, deponendola nella sua reggia in Babilonia.	7 And to there, he also took away the vessels of the Lord, and he placed them in his temple.
8 Il resto degli atti di Ioiakìm, le abominazioni che commise e ciò che gli si può imputare sono descritti nel libro dei re d'Israele e di Giuda. 10 All'inizio del nuovo anno il re Nabucodònosor inviò a prenderlo e lo fece condurre a Babilonia insieme agli oggetti preziosi del tempio del Signore. Egli nominò re su Giuda e su Gerusalemme Sedecia, suo fratello.	10 And when the course of a year had turned, king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, carrying away, at the same time, the most precious vessels of the house of the Lord. Truly, he appointed his uncle, Zedekiah, as king over Judah and Jerusalem.
11 Quando divenne re, Sedecia aveva ventun anni; regnò undici anni in Gerusalemme;	11 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he had begun to reign. And he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem.
12 fece ciò che è male al cospetto del Signore, suo Dio. Non si umiliò davanti al profeta Geremia, interprete del Signore.	12 And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God. And he did not show remorse before the face of the prophet Jeremiah, who was speaking to him from the mouth of the Lord.
13 Osò persino ribellarsi contro il re Nabucodònosor, che gli aveva fatto giurare fedeltà in nome di Dio. Irrigidì la sua cervice e si ostinò nel suo cuore senza far ritorno al Signore, Dio d'Israele.	13 Also, he withdrew from king Nebuchadnezzar, who had bound him by an oath to God, and he hardened his own neck and his own heart, so that he did not return to the Lord, the God of Israel.
14 Anche tutti i capi di Giuda, i sacerdoti e il popolo moltiplicarono le loro infedeltà conformandosi a tutte le abominazioni delle genti e contaminarono il tempio che il Signore si era consacrato in Gerusalemme.	14 Then too, all the leaders of the priests, with the people, transgressed iniquitously, in accord with all the abominations of the Gentiles. And they polluted the house of the Lord, which he had sanctified to himself in Jerusalem.
15 Il Signore, Dio dei loro padri, mandò sin dall'inizio e senza posa i suoi messaggeri ad avvertirli, perché aveva compassione del suo popolo e della sua dimora,	15 Then the Lord, the God of their fathers, sent to them, by the hand of his messengers, rising in the night and daily admonishing them. For he was lenient to his people and to his habitation.
16 ma essi schernirono i messaggeri di Dio, disprezzarono le loro parole e si burlarono dei suoi profeti, finché la collera del Signore contro il suo popolo raggiunse un punto in cui non c'era più rimedio.	16 But they ridiculed the messengers of God, and they gave little weight to his words, and they mocked the prophets, until the fury of the Lord ascended against his people, and there was no remedy.
17 Allora il Signore fece marciare contro di loro il re dei Caldei, il quale uccise di spada i loro giovani all'interno del santuario, senza avere pietà per i giovani, le vergini, i vecchi, e le teste canute. Il Signore consegnò ogni cosa in suo potere.	17 For he led over them the king of the Chaldeans. And he put to death their young men by the sword, in the house of his sanctuary. There was no pity for adolescents, nor virgins, nor the elderly, nor even for the disabled. Instead, he delivered them all into his hands.
18 Tutti gli oggetti del tempio di Dio, i grandi e i piccoli, i tesori del tempio del Signore e i tesori del re e dei suoi prìncipi, tutto fu portato in Babilonia.	18 And all the vessels of the house of Lord, as much the greater as the lesser, and the treasures of the temple, and of the king and the rulers, he carried away to Babylon.
19 Il tempio di Dio fu dato alle fiamme, le mura di Gerusalemme furono abbattute, tutti i suoi palazzi furono consumati dal fuoco, tutti i suoi oggetti preziosi furono destinati alla distruzione.	19 The enemies set fire to the house of God, and they destroyed the wall of Jerusalem. They burned down all the towers. And whatever was precious, they demolished.
20 Nabucodònosor deportò in Babilonia quelli che erano sopravvissuti alla spada; essi divennero schiavi suoi e dei suoi figli fino all'avvento del regno persiano.	20 If anyone had escaped from the sword, he was led into Babylon. And he served the king and his sons, until the king of Persia would command,
21 Così si compiva la parola del Signore predetta da Geremia: "Finché il paese non abbia scontato i suoi sabati, esso riposerà durante tutto il tempo della desolazione fino al termine di settant'anni".	21 and the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah would be fulfilled, and the land would celebrate her Sabbaths. 22 Nel primo anno di Ciro, re di Persia, in adempimento della parola del Signore, pronunciata da Geremia, il Signore suscitò lo spirito di Ciro, re di Persia. Egli fece proclamare per tutto il suo regno, a voce e per iscritto: "	22 Then, in the first year of Cyrus, the king of the Persians, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah, the Lord stirred up the heart of Cyrus, the king of the Persians, who commanded this to be proclaimed throughout his entire kingdom, and also in writing, saying:
23 Così parla Ciro, re di Persia: Il Signore, il Dio dei cieli, ha dato in mio potere tutti i regni della terra; egli stesso mi ha incaricato di costruirgli un tempio in Gerusalemme, che si trova in Giuda. Chiunque tra voi appartenga al suo popolo, il Signore, suo Dio, sia con lui e si metta in cammino".	23 “Thus says Cyrus, the king of the Persians: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given to me all the kingdoms of the earth. And he has instructed me that I should build for him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judea. Who among you is from his entire people? May the Lord his God be with him, and let him ascend.”
