1 Allora Giuseppe si gettò sulla faccia di suo padre e pianse su di lui e lo baciò.	1 And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.
2 Poi Giuseppe ordinò ai medici ch'erano a suo servizio di imbalsamare suo padre. I medici imbalsamarono Israele,	2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.
3 e ci vollero quaranta giorni, perché tanti se ne richiedono per l'imbalsamazione. Gli Egiziani lo piansero settanta giorni.	3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.
4 Passati i giorni del suo lutto, Giuseppe parlò alla corte del faraone: "Deh, se ho trovato grazia ai vostri occhi, vogliate riferire agli orecchi del faraone queste parole:	4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,
5 Mio padre mi ha fatto giurare, dicendo: "Ecco, io sto per morire: tu devi seppellirmi nel mio sepolcro che mi sono scavato nella terra di Canaan". Permettimi dunque di salire ora a seppellire mio padre, poi ritornerò".	5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.
6 Il faraone rispose: "Sali e seppellisci tuo padre com'egli ti ha fatto giurare".	6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.
7 Allora Giuseppe salì a seppellire suo padre e con lui salirono tutti i ministri del faraone, gli anziani della sua casa, tutti gli anziani della terra di Egitto,	7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,
8 tutta la casa di Giuseppe e i suoi fratelli e la casa di suo padre: lasciarono nella terra di Gosen soltanto i loro bambini e i loro greggi e i loro armenti.	8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.
9 Con lui salirono pure i carri da guerra e la cavalleria, così da formare un corteggio imponente assai.	9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.
10 Giunti all'Aia di Atad, che è al di là del Giordano vi fecero grandi e profondissimi lamenti e Giuseppe celebrò per suo padre un lutto di sette giorni.	10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.
11 I Cananei che abitavano il paese videro il lutto all'Aia di Atad e dissero: "E' un lutto grave questo per gli Egiziani". Per questo la si chiamò Abel-Mizraim, che si trova al di là del Giordano.	11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan.
12 Poi i suoi figli fecero per lui quello che egli aveva ordinato loro,	12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:
13 lo trasportarono nella terra di Canaan e lo seppellirono nella caverna del campo di Macpela, che Abramo aveva comperato col campo da Efron l'hittita come proprietà sepolcrale, e che si trova in faccia a Mamre.	13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.
14 Poi, dopo aver sepolto suo padre, Giuseppe tornò in Egitto insieme con i suoi fratelli e con tutti quelli che erano saliti con lui a seppellire suo padre.	14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.
15 Ma i fratelli di Giuseppe incominciarono ad aver paura, dato che il loro padre era morto, e dissero: "Chissà se Giuseppe non ci tratterà da nemici e non ci renderà tutto il male che noi gli facemmo?".	15 And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.
16 Allora mandarono a dire a Giuseppe: "Tuo padre, prima della sua morte ha dato quest'ordine:	16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,
17 "Così direte a Giuseppe: Deh, perdona il delitto dei tuoi fratelli e il loro peccato, perché ti hanno fatto del male!". Or dunque, perdona il delitto dei servi del Dio di tuo padre!". Giuseppe pianse quando gli si parlò così.	17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
18 Poi andarono i suoi fratelli stessi e si gettarono a terra davanti a lui e dissero: "Eccoci tuoi schiavi!".	18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
19 Ma Giuseppe disse loro: "Non temete! Sono io forse al posto di Dio?	19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20 Se voi avevate ordito del male contro di me, Dio ha pensato di farlo servire a un bene, per compiere quello che oggi si avvera: salvare la vita ad un popolo numeroso.	20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
21 Or dunque non temete, io provvederò al sostentamento per voi e per i vostri bambini". Così li consolò e fece loro coraggio.	21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.
22 Ora Giuseppe con la famiglia di suo padre abitò in Egitto; e Giuseppe visse centodieci anni.	22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.
23 Così Giuseppe vide i figlioli di Efraim fino alla terza generazione, ed anche i figli di Machir, figlio di Manasse, nacquero sulle ginocchia di Giuseppe.	23 And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.
24 Poi Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: "Io sto per morire, ma Dio verrà certamente a visitarvi e vi farà salire da questa terra alla terra ch'egli ha promesso con giuramento ad Abramo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe".	24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
25 Giuseppe fece giurare i figli di Israele in questi termini: "Dio verrà certamente a visitarvi, e allora voi porterete via di qui le mie ossa".	25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.
26 Poi Giuseppe morì all'età di centodieci anni; lo imbalsamarono e fu posto in un sarcofago in Egitto.	26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
